I’ve been obsessing over Jin Soon’s latest collection for a little while though, those shades are completely on point for this season and I’m hardcore coveting all of them. Just in time for the unofficial start of the summer season, Jin Soon’s created a great look for your digits for this Memorial Day using shades from her recent collaboration with Gweneth Paltrow’s Goop. The best thing about this design? Even the most novice nail artist can totally achieve this look with no problem at all.
Step 3: Using a striping brush, create slight waves with JINsoon Cool Blue diagonally from the left to the right side of the nail. Vary the thickness so one side is thicker than the other. You can do this by slightly applying more pressure with the brush as you draw the line.
Please indulge me and excuse this new post, I know it is not beauty related but it did help me appreciate the beauty that is in my own backyard…so to speak.
I was contacted on behalf of GM and asked if I’d like to drive a car from their fleet for a few days. I would be given a full tank of gas and the keys to do as I chose and just enjoy the car. How could I say no to that? I picked this sexy beast of a car, the Cadillac ATS, and opted for a couple quick, local getaways instead of a long road trip.
Until a few months ago, I drove a 2005 Hyundai Accent that I abused horribly. I would probably still be driving it if I didn’t mind living with the anxiety that the car could die on me at any moment because let’s face it, not having a car payment is amazing…opens up the budget for more beauty products. 😉
Then I bought a 2009 Toyota Corolla and it seemed like the mother of all upgrades at the time. From manual windows to power windows and power locks, I felt like I was finally driving an adult car… That is until I got behind the wheel of the ATS, my mind was blown. It was fully loaded and jam packed with features I couldn’t even imagine wanting but now am longing to have again.
The features in this car amazing; the one I liked the most was the heads-up pop-up display on the windshield. I always knew how fast I was going or what song was playing on the radio. The easy Bluetooth integration was a breeze to setup and use. As I had a little time with this Cadillac, I decided to go on a few trips with it. I went north to Mount Vernon, WA to check out the Tulip Festival then east to check out Snoqualmie Falls, which I’m embarrassed to say was my first time there being a Seattle native. On each trip, the ATS handled amazingly well and was super comfortable for myself and the friends and family riding with me on each trip.
My first trip was to Mount Vernon, WA for the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival with my family. This festival is something I mean to do every year but always end up putting it off for one reason or another. With the warm winter we had, the tulips started blooming earlier than normal so we were right at the end of their life span but there was still plenty of gorgeous tulips to take in.
I had no idea there were so many different varieties of tulips. My favorite is the Freeman tulip, with its ruffled edges, it reminds me a peony but only with more vibrant color.
To stand in a field of tulips like this and take in all that vibrant color around you is just so uplifting. You can’t help but have a smile on your face.
The next day we headed east and went to Snoqualmie Falls. As someone who was raised in Seattle, to not have visited the falls before is a bit of a travesty especially considering how close this is.
We started at the Snoqualmie Falls park and walked along the trail taking the view in. The falls are breathtaking and not even in full swing here, I’m definitely going back to see the falls in all their glory.
One thing I’m very grateful for is the curiosity my time with the Cadillac ATS has instilled in me. These getaways were quick and both about an hour outside of Seattle. What else have I missed out on that is right in my backyard? My Corolla and I will definitely find out and explore.
The Cadillac ATS drove like a dream. The way it handled on curves and at higher speeds was impressive. When I got the ATS on the freeway and really let her rip, I felt the power in the ATS immediately. She is just so powerful and you really feel that when you accelerate, it picks up and goes instantly. The ride is just so smooth.
It is also quite possibly the most comfortable car I have ever been in. As a driver, you are totally catered to with lumbar support and every feature right at your fingertips. The same is also true as a passenger. From individual temperature controls to the seats themselves, riding in the Cadillac ATS is like riding in your own personal cocoon. The seat just cradles you and wraps you up in it.
The Cadillac was picked up a week ago today and when I got back into my Corolla, I instantly missed the ATS and was almost disappointed in my car lack of cool features. It has definitely given me a lot of think about when the time to upgrade comes around…which may be a little sooner than previously planned now. 🙂

Lips can get cracked and dry and when that happens, lipstick and gloss just don’t look as good. This is why it’s important to use a hydrating lip product that will help your lips look their best. LipSmart is one such product It’s the best hydrating lip plumper that will provide moisture dry lips need to provide the natural lips you desire.
Created by Briana Kay Brumer, LipSmart was thought up after lip plumpers became popular. Because Brumer didn’t like how many of them burned and irritated her lips, she realized she wasn’t alone and wanted to do something about it. Growing up under the tutelage of her dad, respected inventor and chemist Julius Kay, Brumer learned early on how to crate products that offer solutions. So she began to research solutions for lip ingredients that would not only volumize and plump lips, but also moisturize and nurture on a daily basis to deliver silky, soft and voluptuous lips that weren’t irritated by the product. Thus LipSmart was born and the solution has caught on in the industry and is a notable product in the Cos Bar chain of stores. Continue reading →
When I want something, I will go anywhere I need to go in order to get it. Patience is not one of my virtues. I wouldn’t admit this to just anyone but since we have bonded over beauty products, I’ll tell you. After going to two other stores, I once drove 49 miles each way for an Armani foundation. I hunted down Valentina’s Home Brewed Pure Body Care Perfume Oil in True Love in much the same way over the course of the last few months.
Every time I would try to buy this perfume, every other fragrance would be in stock but True Love. It eluded me for months, and apparently a lot of other gals. It wasn’t until a random stop at Whole Foods on Christmas Eve for a centerpiece that I finally found it. We’ve been inseparable ever since. Isn’t that how it always goes? You find what you want when you least expect it. What I didn’t expect was how much I’d love the whole Valentina’s Home Brewed Pure Body Care line.
When you take three of the world’s top hairstylists and put them together to create a forward thinking, innovative haircare line, you get the new R+Co line. R+Co has Howard McLaren, the Garren and Thom Priano at the helm and what you get is a fun, stylish line of hair products with attitude. Another interesting fact about this new line? The Oribe product line is part of the same parent company… need I say more? When Seattle’s Gene Juarez Salon invited me in to sit down with a senior stylist and try the line for myself with a blowout, I was excited and ready for some hair play.
The minute I read about this line and the brains behind it, I was intrigued. R+Co is a unique line and it keeps the health of your hair and scalp as its top priority with all of their products being treatment oriented. Every detail was thought of; from the stylish packaging, the different fragrances each product features to the ingredients at the very core of the line. All of their products were formulated without parabens, sulfates, mineral oil and petrolatum. They are also vegan, gluten free, cruelty free and color safe.
Last year I resolved to use up all of the skincare and makeup I had been hoarding during the last few years. Some of it went in the garbage but most of it was used up to the point where my stash got pretty lean, something the old Carla would have hated. The current Carla is pretty happy with the size of her stash, there is plenty of room for new green additions.
I worked my way through quite a few cleansers, exfoliators and moisturizers. Along the way, I developed an interest in oil cleansing. I was reading everything I could on essential oils and carrier oils until I finally started using my own blends to remove my makeup and moisturize my skin. There was a period of adjustment but I found that I really preferred oil cleansing to how I use to cleanse my skin, it was relaxing and left my skin feeling better than ever. I was hooked but more on that later…
As for makeup, there are two things I have not purchased recently: foundation and concealer. I know a lot of you can relate to this, I had so many bottles of foundation and tubes of concealer that I forbid myself from buying any more. For the most part, I stayed the course. Small samples don’t count, right? I still have some foundation to work through but I’m almost at a point where I’m ready to scoop up some products I’ve been dying to try. I’m looking at you, Gressa and Kjaer Weis!
Do you know that feeling when you’ve gone for a long walk and you realize the end is in sight? That’s how I feel about this foundation/concealer “no buy” of mine, I’m glad it’s nearly over!
Part of the problem with developing an interest in green beauty is its price point. For some, the price tag for some products puts them simply out of reach. That is definitely an issue for me with a few products I have been eyeing. This is part of the reason why I signed up for Petit Vour, a vegan and cruelty free monthly beauty box. It’s a chance to try some of the newest in green beauty while keeping my budget in mind… the other reason is I just like receiving goodies in the mail. 😉
For $15 a month (other subscription pricing is available as well), you receive a box with four to five samples from up and coming brands in the green beauty world. You pay at the beginning of the month and your box is shipped mid-month. Petit Vour also lets you earn points much like other subscription boxes that you can redeem in their shop. The big draw for me was seeing the list of brands they are working with, most of the brands I have on my radar right now.
My box took about two weeks to reach me, which was a bit of a disappointment but it is very possible that the holidays had a lot to do with it. I let that go and will re-evaluate with my second box shipping later this month. Once I finally received my box, I was a happy gal… I had a gorgeous, vampy full sized nail polish, a new deodorant to try, a matte peach blush and a sample of a serum from a brand that was new to me. I didn’t receive a 5th product but I assumed the blush was full sized so I considered this fair.
They say that if you hang on to a piece of clothing long enough, the old style will become new again. I’m thinking the same can be true for Product Girl in 2015. After a long absence from this blog, this year one of my resolutions is to get to basics and blog like I use to when I first started out almost ten years ago. Back when I blogged about the beauty products I was using simply because I loved them.
Somewhere along the way, I lost the excitement I once had for the beauty world. I use to be able to tell you what year a MAC lipstick was released and what collection it was part of. I could recall what shades were limited edition and what was a repromote. I was a die hard beauty fanatic, going to Nordstrom and Sephora to see what was new just for fun. At one point I would even have a sketch book with swatches of my eyeshadow and lipsticks for comparison. I was that serious about it.
Before I really got into makeup (aka before blogging), I never wore blush… I figured my skin had enough redness so why add to it? It was one of those “once in awhile” things. I tend to go dark with my hair in the fall and I was a full-on “embrace your pastiness” gal until I realized I looked way too pale. I’ve told you this before, I’m not really a bronzer person (I only own 1 or 2 now) but blush is now here to stay… especially a cream blush. It is practically obscene how many cream blushes I own.
My current go-to blush is the new Benefit Majorette Booster Blush, a cream-to-powder matte blush designed to be worn underneath your favorite blush or on it’s own for a pretty peach flush. And will you look at this packaging? Benefit can always be counted on for its gorgeous packing. It’s love at first blush on every level for me.
