Have You Joined StyleMint Yet?

Have you heard about StyleMint? It’s a line of exclusive t-shirts designed by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen sold exclusively online. StyleMint operates a little differently than your typical web retailer, When Carla tried JewelMint, my curiosity was instantly peeked. As a t-shirt connoisseur, I love this concept and was so excited to experience StyleMint for myself.

StyleMint starts by asking you a series of questions to get a feel for your personal style and what you like to wear. Based on your responses, StyleMint develops your profile and presents their top picks for you in their showroom. In addition to StyleMint’s picks, you can also choose from other styles in the showroom… which there are plenty of! I picked out the Fillmore in a navy stripe, the Fuller in white and my favorite; the Broadway in a hibiscus stripe to start with.

John Frieda Luxurious Volume Collection

Don’t you hate it when you leave home in the morning feeling confident about your hair only to check in mid-day and see all that volume has gone away? Back combing is fine and all but sometimes you just want to be able to run your fingers through your hair! The John Frieda® Luxurious Volume collection aims to give fine, limp hair visible, natural looking volume that you can actually touch and lasts all day.

If you’re a mousse gal, the Thickening Mousse is all you and gives hair fullness, body and bounce. Who doesn’t want that? Finally, set it with some Extra Hold Hairspray. Want to keep that same look when going out at night? You can reach for the Anytime Volume Refresher, a dry shampoo you can refresh your hair with if some of that oomph happens to be missing from your do.

The collection is available in stores and it has been getting rave reviews, women with lackluster volume have said it’s a transformation worth talking about. Here’s just some of what they have had to say:

“I have the LIMPEST HAIR ever…until I tried your products. Now my hair is FULL OF BODY and volume!”

Narciso Rodriguez For Her In Color

In a word, Narciso Rodriguez For Her In Color can be summed up as sensual. If you wanted another word to describe this fragrance, I’d say alluring. This fragrance is sexy from the ground up and decidedly different from its Essence in Color counterpart that was released at the same time. Where Essence in Color is clean, soapy and feminine, For Her In Color is warm and seductive in contrast.

Even though patchouli is commonly used as a base note,  this fragrance opens with a commanding hit of patchouli that quickly softens and becomes bewitching without being aggressive. After the hit of patchouli dissipates, notes of peach and rose begin to emerge in a light veil of vanilla. Like all of the Narciso Rodriguez fragrances I’ve tried, the wear is beautiful; it grabs the skin and doesn’t let go. This is a fragrance you’d wear when you want to attract the right kind of attention, just like the bottle does. The design is sexy and sleek with worthy of being displayed.

You can find Narciso Rodriguez For Her in Color at Nordstrom, a 3.3oz Eau de Parfum retails for $108.00. If you like your fragrances on the warm side, this is a fragrance you should get to know.

New! Guerlain Noir G Mascara

Usually a mascara launch does not excite me but the upcoming launch of Guerlain’s Noir G mascara is a different story. How can you say no to this mascara based on its packaging alone? It is gorgeous, is it not?

Guerlain Noir G mascara makes its debut next month and if it’s packaging is any indication of its formula, we are in for a treat… as far as luxury mascaras go. Guerlain says the formula delivers a “perfect 3-dimensional look” with volumizing, lengthening and curling benefits leaving lashes defined, denser and “cloaked in a new intensity”. What is even more interesting to me is that this is a refillable mascara. It retails for $49.00 initially but refills are a much more wallet friendly $26.00. We also love how Guerlain is thinking about ease of use in their products. First with Rouge Automatique, a lipstick you can apply with one hand and just one click. With Noir G, just pull on the case and with a click, the hidden mirror is revealed. Then add a quick twist and the brush appears.

Here’s a little more on the formula straight from Guerlain:

  • Ultra Black Pigments: these carbon black pigments offer an unprecedented level of intense black. The optimal size of these pigments allows for a better dispersion within the formula while a magnifying effect amplifies the intensity and depth of the black and the glossy finish. These are the purest black pigments that can be found in mascara.
  • Volumizing, Lengthening, Curling formula: The formula plumps and thickens every lash, the stretch formula allows the mascara to lengthen even the smallest lashes and then the curling formula coats lashes in a protective film to maximise and set the curl.
  • Artemia Salina: helps to regenerate lashes by stimulating keratin for fortification and lash growth.
  • Polymer Film fixes the formula from daybreak to the end of the night, preventing the formula from smudging or flaking.

Noir G will be available at Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, and Bergdorf Goodman counters in January. Are you splurging on this?

Narciso Rodriguez Essence in Color

I get the feeling Narciso Rodriguez must personally know me because he keeps clearly designing fragrances for me. I first fell in love Narciso’s namesake fragrance, he wrapped me up in its beautiful warm cashmere blanket of a scent and kept me cozy and warm and now he just keeps making fragrances that feel like little personal gifts from him to me. I feel like Narciso is extremely intelligent with his design as he seems to know who loves his fragrances and keeps building on that initial attraction. I am now truly in love with Essence in Color. Like his namesake, it is a beautiful skin but better scent.

Essence in Color is feminine but not girly, it has a hint of timeless classic yet there’s a refreshing clean feel that is overly soapy. As Essence in Color is going to play differently on everyone’s skin on mine it opens with a lovely and delicate top note of rose petals, the powdery and clean iris note carries through from the middle to the dry down with a very quiet hint of amber that adds to it being warm but doesn’t take away from it being clean smelling. Essence in Color has great staying power and lifts off the skin just enough for someone close to enjoy it.

You can find Essence in Color at Macy’s and Sephora online starting at $84 for a 1.6oz bottle. I can only hope someone decides to make other products with this scent. I would gladly submerge myself in a barrel of this scent. Stay tuned for more on Narciso Rodriguez For Her in Color. Have experienced any of his fragrances?

Winter Trends from Chic Studios

It’s that time of year! When we put away the tanning lotion for trenchcoats, the bikinis for the brr… you get the point! Winter is around the corner (in some places, already here :() but with the season, comes a new set of beauty trends. The team of professional makeup artists at Chic Studios NYC,  are ready for the changing weather, and share the hottest trends!

“Using a serum in the winter (dry) months, will help revitalize the skin cells, and rejuvenate your skin! I love and recommend Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate! One of my other favorite winter trends is using a cream blush all over skin, cheeks, eye lids and lips, which is a great way to keep your handbag light, and your skin supple! My go-to product, is NARS Cosmetics for cream blush!” -Amy Nicole, Director of Chic Studios NYC

“During the winter months the skin becomes more dehydrated. You really need to beef up on the skincare as well as eye cream so the skin can be prepped and allow your foundation to look as great as possible. This winter is all about skin! Try using MAC Strobe Cream underneath your foundation for the extra glow. I also recommend using illuminators at the top of the cheek bones and a bit on the nose. I am really enjoying ‘Odyssey,’ the liquid luminizer by Illamasqua.  One of the other tips I also recommend to keep the cheeks fresh by using a cream blush, or a liquid stains like Benefit “Benetint.” And, my look is a gorgeous set of lashes (build-able mascara) with a light shimmery gloss on the lips.” -Ruthie Weems, Professional Makeup Artistry Instructor at Chic Studios NYC

“Winter is killer on my skin — so upping my beauty routine is a must! I always start with a strong, non-pore-clogging moisturizer like Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre. My sensitive skin can’t thank me enough! For makeup, I love Makeup Forever Rough Lipstick line, especially the lighter, more nude colors like #1, which is a matte flesh color. On my paler winter skin, it just brings my whole look together, whether I have a heavy eye or a wing liner! And to finish off the wintress wear, paint your nails a soft blue, like ‘Coco Blue’ from Chanel. Being an ice queen has never been so pretty!” -Christina Olivo, Admissions & Marketing Director at Chic Studios NYC

“Some tips this winter that are vital for trendsetting: Dark burgundy/wine lips with a creamy matte finish is hot this season, try OCC’s lip tar in “Vintage.” To vamp up your look for all the holiday parties, and, a very black liner rimmed all around the eye smudged out with a crease brush is a great trick! Try “Smolder” liner from MAC. And La la la lashes! Don’t be afraid to do 3-4 coats! Try Smashbox DNA mascara, I swear by it!” -Angelique Velez, Professional Makeup Artistry Instructor at Chic Studios NYC

Tom Ford White Patchouli: You Aren’t in the Haight Ashbury Baby

I will just be blunt. Tom Ford totally lights my fire,  his contributions to the beauty world are visions of grandeur, decadent and beautiful. Mr. Ford takes this industry back to a time of glamour and into an ever so sought after sexy future. With his Tom Ford White Patchouli, he is giving us a classic fragrance…the Chanel #5 of the patchouli world.

The description states it’s a core of patchouli but my favorite moment is when the patchouli acts as a top note strong but fades quickly like the sun dimming behind the mountains at twilight, it’s mesmerizing. I love how the quick intensity calms under tones of soft white flowers and then is gently swaddled in delicate warm woods leaving my skin softly kissed for the day. Tom Ford has used fragrant notes to convey to one woman a very alluring story. Thank you Mr. Ford, someday I will venture into your world of Private Blends. I’m sure there are some very beautiful fragrances to be swept away in.

Belli Acne Clearing Facial Wash: Acne Goes Belli Up

I had light acne as a kid and then grew out of it, now in my thirties…yes, it is back to haunt me a little. I was on the hunt for something to knock it out and in the process tried quite a few lotions and potions as usual. Recently a pregnant friend told me that the Belli’s skincare line was formulated for pregnant women and she raved about their Acne Clearing Facial Wash….well I’m not pregnant but I am always looking for a good product so I stayed open minded and made the purchase.

belli-acne-clearing-facial-wash Belli’s 411 is pretty interesting and really appealed to my healthy side:

Belli Pregnancy has set a higher standard for prenatal safety, as the only skin care line in the world that is teratology screened. We search through over 16 million medical research articles in over 5000 international journals, and use this information to exclude ingredients with even remote links to birth defects or other problems with pregnancy. Belli Motherhood is LactMed screened to avoid ingredients linked to harmful effects during breastfeeding. Belli Baby is screened for xenoestrogens—chemicals which can act like hormones that interfere with normal development of the reproductive system. So no matter which Belli products you use, you can have peace of mind erring on the side of caution.

This is a little more technical than I normally go but at the same time the information is really interesting… these are not concerns women usually have when it comes to their skincare.  I really I love what they are doing and the efforts they are making though. All that chalks up to a product I feel very comfortable using.

So far I’ve been really pleased with Belli’s Acne Clearing Facial Wash. It doesn’t dry me out and it hasn’t caused a flare up of my rosacea. You can use it daily or it can be left on directly as a mask for 5 minutes, I’ve been rotating the 2 approaches. Lastly, I feel really good about all the ingredient screening they do and in the end they still have created a really active wash containing lactic acid that seems to do the job well for me. So if you are in the market for a new acne solution… pregnant or not. Give Belli a try.

Philosophy Hope is Not Enough Body Lotion: Quenching Thirsty Skin Everywhere

philosophy-when-hope-is-not-enough-replenishing-body-lotionI have spent allot of time in the sun this summer (I know, shame on me) and even got a pretty bad burn which just really sucked the life out of my skin and made it really itchy. The body lotion that saved my scaly parched skin is Philosophy’s When Hope is Not Enough Body Lotion.

I have to say that I really hoped it would work and in this case, hope is definitely enough. Maybe they should change the name? 🙂 I started using this product and not only did it quench my thirsty skin but it really soothed and calmed my red itchy sunburn. It definitely helps that the overall appearance of my skin looks more supple as well.

As an added bonus, Philosophy’s When Hope is Not Enough Body Lotion contains many of my favorite ingredients such as:

  • borage oil (borago officinalis): rich source of omega 6 fatty acid; an anti-irritant, used to soothe and maintain hydration.
  • evening primrose oil (oenothera biennis): rich source of omega 6 fatty acid; an anti-irritant, used to soothe and maintain hydration.
  • olive fruit oil (olea europaea): rich source of omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids; used to soothe and maintain hydration.

There’s also a When Hope is Not Enough Body Scrub to go along with the lotion but I think this is very strong new launch from Philosophy and I have been revisiting this line more and more lately in search of good beauty fixes.
