Benefit will launch a new fragrance this July, See & Be Seen Sasha. Like all of the Benefit fragrances that make up their “Crescent Row” collection, Sasha has the best packaging. Really, it doesn’t get any cuter than these Benefit boxed fragrances. Do you remember the Benefit minis that were released last holiday? Regardless of whether I like the scent, I find myself wanting to have a Crescent Row community in my own house. It turns out, though, that Sasha smells pretty phenom. It’s a very girly scent — Benefit describes it as a daring and captivating floral.
Top notes: orange flower absolute, apricot, pink freesia
Middle notes: ylang ylang, tiare flower, white peony, jasmine sambac
Bottom notes: crystal amber, liquid musk, vanilla
It is a burst of floral right away, and then I immediately notice the jasmine. It works well with my skin, and I like these notes. Surprisingly, I don’t pick up much of the amber or vanilla. I thought I knew how would this smell reading the notes, but it’s actually more floral than I expected. Daring and girly, gotta love it!
Also, just spotted this ADORABLE Crescent Row Stationery Tin on BenefitCosmetics.com, which is available for purchase, or free right now with a $40 purchase (enter code WRITEME at checkout). SO CUTE overload!
The Ageing Process – Natural vs Cosmetic
Growing old gracefully means something different to everyone. For some, it may be having a certain outlook in life and not allowing yourself to suddenly start acting like a teenager (or too old a person), while for others, it may be about maintaining an active and interesting social life. Whichever group you see yourself in, you can’t avoid the question about whether or not it’s ‘graceful’ to enter your later years having had cosmetic surgery, or whether you’ve wholeheartedly and naturally embraced the signs of ageing whilst still making the most of your life. But what is the best method of embracing the ageing process?
In fact, is one way any better than the other, or is it simply a case of examining what you have underneath and working on it? Whatever the case, one thing is for sure – it’s not a one-size-fits-all question and nobody should be made to feel any less beautiful or acceptable in society for the choices they make.
Recently I attended the launch party for local brand Emilie Sloan’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection. Actress Charlene Amoia was on hand to host the event held at local shop Curtsy Bella, a gorgeous store you have to visit if you’re ever in the Seattle area. I’m a sucker for beautiful prints and the Emilie Sloan line is all about taking those beautiful prints and creating great, functional tote bags and accessories. I wish I would have discovered this line sooner, now I’m curious about what prints I might have missed.
Emilie Sloan has a wide range of bags. If you’re looking for a great travel bag, she has it. This Weekender bag is going on my shopping list in the English Rose print. If you’re looking for a wristlet that has room for your iPhone and your lipstick, she has it. This Wallet Wristlet is right up our alley, isn’t it? The line also has crossbody bags, coin purses and makeup bags all available in the same gorgeous prints. If a print is not your thing, don’t worry, the line also has solid colors for a more timeless look.
Few things in life make me want to get out of bed early but the Nordstrom Anniversary sale is one of them. The sale starts on July 20th but if you’re a Fashion Rewards member, you have early access to all the great Nordstrom exclusives… and there are a lot of them! If you’re new to the whole Anniversary exclusive thing, get your plastic ready. As part of the celebration, Nordstrom works with our favorite brands to bring you exclusive sets you will not find anywhere else. There’s also great values to be had with these exclusives and who doesn’t love a good value? Maybe that Capital One baby Jimmy Fallon keeps talking to in commercials.
I’m in New York City right now and will be attending a sneak preview of the best Nordstrom has to offer for the anniversary sale so make sure you’re following me (@productgirl) and Nordstrom (@nordstrombeauty) on Twitter. I’ll be tweeting sneak peeks at what’s in store for us during the sale and for the holiday season (yay!!) as well. Have anything you’re curious about from the sale? Let me know in the comments and I’ll do my best to get your question answered! For now, let’s take a peek at some of the exclusives…
For China Glaze’s Fall 2012 collection, we’re going on an exotic expedition… we’re going On Safari! The collection gives us a good variety of shades but it is rooted in earthy tones, rich plums and sparkle. I love the unexpected shades in this collection, the cobalt blue and green creme shades are a surprise in this collection but they make for a great transition from summer to fall, don’t you think? Plus we’re seeing that greys never go away, the Elephant Walk shade is here to remind us of that.
Let’s take a look at the 10 rich cremes and 2 glitters that make up the On Safari collection.
Meet the new Make Up For Ever Aqua Creams in #23, #24, #25 and #26, a.k.a. bright, brighter, brightish and brightest. And we’re guessing for some, scary and scaryish. We thought so too, at first. But let’s back up for a minute and talk about the Aqua Cream. So much more than a cream shadow, these are probably the most budgeproof — definitely waterproof — eye makeup product out there. The kind of makeup you want when you need your look to last all day. Likewise, a wise choice during a heat wave. The first rule in wearing bright, borderline neon, eye makeup is to make sure it is not going to slip off of your face and leave you looking like a clown. The second rule? Being open to wearing bright, borderline neon makeup.
We got a sneak preview of the Birchbox July 2012 box, curated by the beauty editors at Glamour magazine. As school was coming to an end and finals approached, I never did my hair. Ever. I’m talking straight out of bed and out the door. So it’s safe to say my hair’s much healthier and really should be thanking me for the two week vacation from my flat iron. But as soon as school ended, I found myself using heat again and not wanting to damage my nurtured ends, I stuck with a routine of using heat protectant.
Now I’m typically skeptical about heat protectants (bad, bad experiences) but I gave it a go with AG Hair’s Firewall having high hopes. It’s infused with argan and I think that’s what drew me to it the most, considering argan oil has done wonders to my hair in the past. I gave it bonus points for being in an aerosol can, spray bottles tend to use too much product and leave my hair wet.
When I use Firewall, I spray some product from about my ears down, but mainly on my ends. Then I just go about my routine with straightening my hair. Unlike other protectants I’ve tried, this doesn’t leave my hair feeling dry or sticky, but instead silky and smooth. My hair stays straighter, longer, and even helps combat the undeniable frizz that comes with living in Seattle.
During this heat wave, I’ve been all about hues of orange. Tangerine looks great with sweat. Or something like that. I’m just being real, because there is no way to be put together when it’s this hot. But we do our best! One of our favorite summer shades is definitely Tipsy by Tarte, a bright coral. I latched on to Tipsy Cheek Stain way back when no one else was making that type of product and then, Product Girl HQ universally fell for Tipsy Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush and its long-wearing power (perfect for a heat wave!)
Naturally, I assumed that Tarte Maracuja Divine Shine Lip Gloss in Tipsy would be similarly bright, when in fact it is a soft pearly peach on the lips. It’s nude without being nude, peach without being too peach and packed with shine that isn’t too shiny. It is DIVINE. It’s a go with everything lip gloss and perfect for that no-makeup makeup look and alternatively the heat wave look. It manages to softly brighten up my face and detract from all that glisten (a.k.a. sweat).
I happen to like when my beauty products surprise me. This Tipsy’s going down in history as a Product Girl Beauty VIP.
I’m certain the only way to not melt your face off with these 100+ temps that seem to rise with every day this week is to actually just stay inside the comforts of an air conditioned home. If only jobs and lives didn’t get in the way of our cooling plans. The next best thing is to deploy a face-melting offense/defense strategy that will keep you looking cool and refreshed (despite feeling otherwise). The following is heat wave-tested, Product Girl-approved.
