Mark your calendars and click here tomorrow morning, beginning at 9am PST, to snag an early preview of Benefit’s Instant Beauty Kits. They’ll be coming to Sephora as an exclusive in August, but Benefit is allowing fans access for 48 hours. I got a sneak sneak peek and all I can say is WOW. Major props to the brilliant product development team at Benefit. These kits might just be my fav yet. The Lip and Cheek Instant Beauty Kits pair High Beam, a Tint (Bene, Posie or Cha Cha), a Box o’ Powder and the matching Ultra Plush Lip Gloss. For only $28 — can you even stand it? The sizes are deluxe, so you get plenty of product for your dollars.
In addition, Benefit has a new Complexion Kit featuring, for the first time in a kit, Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Foundation. Those will be available for $30 during the Flash Sale as well.
NARS Fall 2012 has landed, officially. One of the items we were most looking forward to seeing is Undress Me Multiple. It’s so demure looking, and the name only reinforces that for me. The biggest question I had was, how similar will this be to NARS Luxor? I love that Multiple infinitely, and I really wasn’t looking for another icy pink. And the good news is that Undress Me couldn’t be more different. Luxor is a smooth, pale iridescent pink and Undress Me is a ballerina pink with silver glitter. I almost pick up a slight lavender hue in Undress Me as well. I actually love the base color — it reminds me of the Lined Luster Scarf I snagged on sale at Anthropologie a few weeks ago! What’s better than one amazing super-charged serum for your skin? Two amazing super-charged serums!
Lancome wants you to try their most powerful anti-aging duo for a more perfected skin. Lancome is one of the brands I trust my skin with and now they want to be your perfect partner for younger-looking skin. You already know (and hopefully love) about Génifique but have you tried pairing it with the newer Visionaire? Rumor is one out of two women tempted by a cosmetic procedure decided to postpone it after giving this new serum a whirl for four weeks.
In case you didn’t know about Génifique, it is Lancome’s award winning serum that gives you visibility younger skin in just 7 days. It targets radiance, vibrancy and softness and is nothing short of amazing. Want to target the appearance of wrinkles, pores and uneven texture? I don’t know a single woman that doesn’t. You’ll want to get your hands on Visionnaire then. Try using them together, apply one to three drops of Génifique to cleansed skin. Follow with two pumps of Visionnaire when layering, prior to applying your Lancôme moisturizer. For best results, use Génifique and Visionnaire together in both the morning and evening.
Ready to try Lancome’s super serums for yourself? Get a coupon to try this duo for yourself here.

Last week I had the chance to travel to New York City and get a sneak peek at the goodies Nordstrom is bringing us as exclusives for their Anniversary sale. As I mentioned last week, you can shop the pre-sale now if you are a Nordstrom cardholder but if you are not, everything seen here and more will be available to you this Friday, July 20th until August 5th, prices go up on August 6th. If you’re a cardholder, you can also earn double points on your beauty purchases from now until the 19th… rack up those rewards!
This is just a sampling of the goodies available during the store, there are many more available online and in stores. As beauty lovers, this is the event we all live for every summer and I was glad to have the chance to check these out. The thing about the anniversary sale is that it is all about the value. Retailers, and Nordstrom in particularly, do not have sales is cosmetics but there are definitely values to be had during the year. This is one of those occasions and some of the values here are phenomenal, not to mention all the great GWPs.
Nordstrom Beauty Directors Cheri Botiz and Tawni Hart hosted a great event at their Treasure & Bond store in SoHo complete with pampering from makeup artists, manicurists and hairstylists. Not a bad way to spend a hot, muggy New York City day, right? For our hair needs, a team from Blow was on hand to style our hair, they created this gorgeous braided up-do on an editor. We also had manicurists from Deborah Lippmann tending to our nails and Nordstrom Beauty Stylists touching up our makeup. With the humidity melting the makeup off my face, I needed all the help I could get!
Let’s take a look at some of my favorites from the exclusives I had a chance to see when I was in New York…
This week’s mani was very overdue! Whenever I take a trip, I have a ritual I perform; get the eyebrows done, make sure hair is properly colored and cut then of course the mandatory mani/pedi. That didn’t happen this time and I left for New York last week without doing my nails and toes properly manicured… the horror! I kept meaning for it to get done but it just never happened even though I was carrying this shade from the China Glaze On Safari collection with me everywhere I went. Now my nails are glistening with glitter.
China Glaze’s I’m Not a Lion is a gold glitter with lots of micro gold and silver glitter thrown in. This is the exact kind of glitter polish that I love, two coats of I’m Not a Lion and you are completely covered, no messing around with three or four coats to try and build your mani to bottle color – just two coats and you’re there. Why can’t more glitters be like this? The formula gets a little thick during application, at least in my bottle it did, but it helps pack on the glitter so I don’t mind that at all. This shade dries quickly lacking a little bit of its luster in the bottle but a glossy top coat restores the shade’s sparkle.
What’s on your nails this week? I have to admit, I am loving this glitter. I haven’t worn a glitter like this in a long time. Do you have next week’s mani all planned out? I’m thinking I might try water marbling. Let’s discuss this in the comments.
LUSH will launch its long-awaited Emotional Brilliance collection July 21, venturing into the world of makeup more than it ever has before. And, in one of the most unique ways, too. Emotional Brilliance is more than just a color collection, but makeup mind therapy. What’s that you say? It’s about how you feel when you wear these colors. With names like Glamorous, Independent, Strong and Decisive, you wear the corresponding colors but also the word. LUSH engaged Strategic Behavioral Therapist Lady Kennedy to develop the list of words to correspond with each color.
I attended a pre-launch party at Chicago’s Bucktown LUSH store and saw the Emotional Brilliance range of 30 shades, including 13 Liquid Lips ($22.95), 11 Liquid Eyeliners ($22.95) and 6 Cream Eyeshadows (22.95). To experience Emotional Brilliance, you spin a special wheel LUSH created and choose the three colors that jump out to you. Not an exact science, but a fun and innovative way to choose your makeup. It may be that each time you spin, different colors jump out at you.
Another installment of Product Girl and Revlon taking on beauty trends is here! And I’m really excited about this one because we cover one of my go-to eye liner looks: the “new” cat eye. I call it the kitten. It’s just a slight wing that is so subtle, hence the kitten name. It’s so flattering and eye opening for my eye shape and one of those trends that I think is really wearable for most women. It’s not as dramatic as a full on cat eye, so work it for daytime or anytime for that matter. Continue reading →
I am a sucker for Tarte’s QVC Today Special Value sets, I really am. Today QVC’s Today Special Value is Tarte’s What Has Your Makeup Done For You Lately set, #A225763 I’ve probably said this before but they always introduce something new in these sets and there’s always something else for me to obsess over. Right now? I’m loving that Tarte has given us yet another great brush and a new chunky lip pencil… I’m all about the lip pencils.
This set retails for $49.96 and introduces us to Tarte’s new Maracuja Miracle Foundation with Broad Spectrum SPF 15. It also has a few products that will remain exclusive to QVC until January 2013, we’ll get into that in a moment. Another thing about this set? If you sign up for auto-delivery, your November set will include Tarte’s bronzing powder and the February set will include the original setting powder.
Brushes are kind of everything in makeup. While we often use our fingers to blend tinted moisturizer and cream blush or dab cream eyeshadow on with our fingers, we love our tools. Our combined collection of brushes is admittedly ridiculous. What can we say? The thrill of finding that perfect blush to contour or achieve the perfect smoky eye is exciting. In this case, the thrill is not in the chase, but the find. We switch up our products often, but the brushes are the constant. New to my brush family are some very exciting, and interestingly shaped, brushes from Everyday Minerals. The best part? They range in price from 7.99 to $22.99, so quality at a price that doesn’t make you cringe. Regardless of my passion for brushes, it was painful to shell out the dough for the NARS Yachiyo.
There’s two in particular that WOWed me and changed my routine for the better. They’re not just in the brush roll —- they live in my makeup kit! The ITAHAKE Brush is everything for contouring (and BONUS: it’s like a budget-friendly version of the NARS Ita brush!) and the Eye Kabuki Brush that I actually use for buffing concealer under the eye and the face. You may see a brush like the ITAHAKE and think how will that work? I prefer it for contouring with bronzer under the cheekbone and around the hairline. It places it in just the right spots and it blends and buffs well, too. The Eye Kabuki is originally intended for applying light color all over the lid, but it’s a champ at airbrushing concealer. Eye Kabuki + Tarte Maracuja Concealer = the secret to looking awake and refreshed.
Both of these brushes will only set you back about $20 (for both), and it is well worth it!

Fresh off her collaboration with Target, Cos Bar founder and CEO Lily Garfield is letting us take a peek inside her makeup bag. If you’re unfamiliar with the Cos Bar, it’s a high end store that carries the best in beauty including makeup, skincare, fragrance, bath and body and tools and accessories. It’s the kind of place beauty gals like us would feel right at home in. The first store opened over 25 years ago in Aspen, Colorado but since then has grown to include 12 stores in 8 different states. Can we get one in Seattle please?
Lily is a discerning customer and she chooses products based on their results so let’s take a look at what’s inside her makeup bag in her own words.
