Bobbi Brown brings it with her summer Miami Collection, inspired by the fresh look you get at the beach. Naturally, she included some very beach-ready products. None more essential than the Treatment Lip Shine SPF 15, which Bobbi graciously added four new shades of for summer. The four shades, Pink Seashell, Sunset, Orchid Pink and Peach Sorbet, are brilliant on the lips. They manage to give off a carefree, summery vibe when you wear them. I haven’t really logged any beach time yet this year, but wearing these puts me there in spirit. I think these would make one covet-worthy foursome, but sadly, they’re sold individually.
Peach Sorbet might be my favorite of the bunch, but Orchid Pink and its lavender hues are super flattering. Sunset has a copper tint, and makes me look super bronzed (not at all in a Tan Mom kinda way, thankfully). Pink Seashell is a beauty, but seems like a color I might already have a lot of. While I can see myself burning through a tube fast, I give major kudos to Bobbi for the formula. We get tons of moisture from cocoa and shea butters, jojoba, apricot kernel and avocado oils, and some Peptide and Vitamin C treatment mixed in to prevent future sun damage and stimulate collagen production. Each will run you $23, but we deem them worthy of a splurge!
I shudder to think of the skincare sins I committed as a teenager. Practically exfoliating my face raw with St. Ive’s Apricot Scrub and dousing it in benzoyl peroxide to ward off blemishes. With that regime, it shouldn’t be a surprise that my skin was irritated and angry. I’ve learned a lot since and I like to think that zit zappers are also just much better now. While I’d love to be completely done with breaking out, that’s not my reality. And in some sick way, I look forward to demolishing blemishes with the wonder serum that is Sircuit Fixzit™.
Do you know Sircuit Cosmeceuticals? They’ve been around for 10 years, creating effective skin care without artificial fillers and all those ingredients that made my skin so angry years ago. The products also happen to have the coolest names ever. Case in point: Fixzit. Practically a verb in my household now.
Sircuit uses an encapsulated form of Vitamin A (retinol) that is potent yet gentle to help fight infection and encourage cell turnover. A ton of other unexpected ingredients come into play here – like Banana Extract, Lactic Acid, Wine Extract and the only chirally correct (means the molecules function as they should and don’t leave anything harmful behind) form of Biotin which contributes to healing.
Yes, Fixzit is so much more than a zit zapper. It’s this amazing little treatment serum that exfoliates skin and decongests pores. It stops blemishes overnight and also helps to brighten skin and prevents the discoloration that inevitably occurs.
Fixzit-ing my skin probs are a little more exciting with this. $30 at Sircuit.
Hey look, it’s MAC Hey, Sailor! There are always a few cues of summertime, and MAC’s summer color collection is always one. In recent years, Surf Baby and To The Beach, and Naughty Nauticals and Cool Heat a few more back. I always feel like my summer memories are tied to the makeup in these collections. And can we all remember the mad search for Marine Life?
Of all of those collections, a few items always stood out. In MAC Hey, Sailor, there are so many standouts. First, the packaging. The navy and white nautical stripes are irresistible. I’m tempted to even keep the boxes, but am doing my best to avoid hoarder behavior. I’ve already identified some total must-haves – namely the Pro Longwear Bronzing Powder (silky! smooth! gorgeousness!) and the tangerine Riviera Life Lipglass (no need to shell the $ for Chanel’s version!)
But, let’s take a closer look at the collection (note: this is only part of it —there’s a whopping 40 items in Hey, Sailor).
If you can peel your eyes away from the gorgeous brights of the NARS Thakoon nail polish collab, you’ll see this demure seashell pink just chilling in the NARS Summer color collection. The best word to describe this shade is pretty, no? The color itself is familiar, a soft pink, but I love its place in the overall summer story from NARS.
NARS Summer 2012 Campaign Image with a peek of Trouville
The look for NARS Summer, as seen on Ginta Lapina, is so wearable. You can see Trouville peeking out slightly on her nails, and I think it contributes to a soft, glowy look for summer. Here’s the makeup breakdown:
To begin, St. Moritz Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF30/PA+++ was applied to the center of the face with the fingertips and blended outward, then set with Eden Loose Powder to create an immaculate complexion.
To lend the skin a light bronzed look, Laguna Bronzer was dusted onto the face in the shape of a ‘3’, starting at the forehead, swept on to the cheek, and then along the jawline. The apples of the cheeks were warmed with Liberté Blush and the face further defined by softly dusting Taos Blush along the hairline.
A mixture of the silver and icy peach shades of Ramatuelle Trio Eyeshadow were brushed onto the lid and blended up into the crease. The apricot shade of the Trio was added in to the crease, with the silver shade swept along the lower lash line.
The upper and lower lids were lined with Via Veneto Larger Than Life® Long-Wear Eyeliner.
After curling the lashes with an eyelash curler, two coats of Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara were brushed on to the lashes.
Finally, the lips were lined and filled with Borneo Lip Liner Pencil—blending with a finger to soften the color. Moscow Pure Matte Lipstick was applied, then topped with Risky Business Lip Gloss for shine.
What do you think? Loving the look? Is Trouville a hit or miss for you?
I have been obsessed with Eve Lom’s Cleanser for a few years now. It all started when I first set foot inside of Space NK for the first time. After reading so many rave reviews about this cleanser, I knew I couldn’t leave the store without picking it up. There was a small issue though, I suffered from a little bit of sticker shock when I saw the price for the smallest container. My way around that was to try the travel set that Space NK offered at the time. This way I got to try a little bit of everything. That night I went back to my hotel room and washed away the day. I couldn’t believe how good my skin felt, it was so smooth, clean and soft. I still hesitated on picking up a full sized jar of it. It wasn’t until a trip back to New York City at the end of January that I finally made the leap.
This cleanser is amazing, it breaks down makeup beautifully and pampers your skin and senses with a blend of essentials oils. When you you take the muslin cloth included with this cleanser, get it nice and warm and let it sit on your skin for a bit, it’s heaven. The heat softens the skin and allows the cleanser to really penetrate and deep clean, then when you wipe if off with the cloth, your skin is left smoother and more radiant. It is really easy to get addicted to this kind of clean. I don’t use this every day but when I’m wearing a little more makeup then usual, this is what I reach for. Now that I’m working from home and wearing off shades of foundation and testing new things more often, it is getting a little more use.
Have you tried Eve Lom’s Cleanser? Do you love it like I do? Let us know in the comments.
Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint (affectionately referred to as LMT by its cult followers) is one of the most amazing tinted moisturizers on the market. It diffuses all skin imperfections and leaves skin all glowy and highlighted in the right places. We just got word that Jouer has something LMT-esque planned for the body this summer! Jouer Luminizing Body Glow officially launches June 1. It promises a radiant finish to the skin with a healthy dose of hydration. Jouer infused it with scents of Gardenia, Jasmine and Honeysuckle and moisturizing shea butter, chamomile and cucumber extract. All of this with a subtle satin glow. Are you as excited to see this in action as we are?!
For this month’s featured Revlon video, we bring you the “Wet Hair Look.” For us, that means a tightly pulled back bun, a.k.a. top knot. It’s the best part of having long hair, and is a go-to hair style of mine. Anything goes, really, when you pull your hair back. It can be relaxed for daytime or even chic for night. In the video below, I talk about the transition from day to night with three Revlon products:
Revlon PhotoReady Airbrush™ Mousse Makeup
Revlon Luxurious Color™ Smoky Crayon
Revlon® Just Bitten™ Lipstain + Balm (in Desire)
We have been a fan of the Just Bitten Lipstain+ Balm for years, and using it again here reminded us of that. Desire is such a pretty pink! As for the PhotoReady Airbrush Mousse Makeup, I like that quite a bit, too. I’ve always been a fan of the PhotoReady (despite others discontent with the sparkles!) and the Mousse is straight up cool. The shade I’m wearing here is a little too light for me come summer, but I’ve been loving it in these paler, pre-faux tan days. And, last, the Luxurious Color Smoky Crayon. Love it in theory, but we have to urge you to PRIME, PRIME, PRIME. If not, well, you can imagine what happens. Good for the smudgy look!
Let us know your thoughts. Tried any of the above?

“Thanks, it’s Sasha Rhett.” Four words that me and Emily uttered constantly while sporting these watches with colorful and textured interchangeable straps. Totally for the ADD crowd, let us tell you. Endless options. Sasha Rhett was created by a Harvard grad named Alexandra Daum. Between Birchbox co-founders Katia and Hayley, the Harvard Baseball team (a.k.a. Call Me Maybe boys) and Sasha Rhett we think Harvard might just be the birthplace of awesome.
“While I love color and prints, I love classic silhouettes as well. Women today demand a lot of their fashion purchases. They want items that serve multiple functions within their wardrobe, and of course they want high quality and affordability. With Sasha Rhett, you can buy a novelty watch in your favorite bright color for fun and swap it out for a neutral tone for maximum practicality.” – Alexandra Daum, founder of Sasha Rhett
I have a Sasha Rhett bracelet (you can see it here on my wrist with these Goody Double Wear hair ties), and I love how simple it is. Perfect for the minimalist jewelry types. We were curious about the adorable watches, and tested out the Rose Gold Round and Stainless Steel Rectangular, changing straps nearly every day because we could. Next to lip gloss, a watch is something I’m almost always wearing. Emily, too. Her left wrist is always adorned with the a classic Cartier with a thin black leather band. The Sasha Rhett Stainless Steel Rectangular timepiece is actually quite similar.
Getting into bed at the end of the day has been such a pleasure lately. Not only because sleeping is amazing, duh, but because my linens and blanket are sweetly scented with Tocca’s Touch fragrance thanks to the Tocca Laundry Travel Set. I get in bed, cuddle with my soft, plush blanket and just breathe in the fragrance. It makes me a happy gal at the end of the day.
The Tocca Laundry Travel Set retails for $22 ad comes with four 2oz. travel size washes perfect for travelling (or hand washing your delicates, what could be better than having all of your bras smelling like Tocca Touch?) in a small zip up bag. The bottle suggests you use 3-4 capfuls in a sink full of water for a hand washing or 6-7 capfuls for load in the delicate cycle. I used the entire 2oz. bottle in my washer for a few sets of sheets, this has helped the scent linger around a bit longer. Five days later and I still smell Tocca’s Touch in my bed. The fragrances in the set include my personal favorite Touch (gardenia, pomegranate and Egyptian balsam), Cleopatra (grapefruit and cucumber), Stella (blood orange) and Florence (iris and rose).
I don’t know about you but I have what I can a “special occasion” shampoo and conditioner. When I really love a shampoo and conditioner and it is on the price side of things, I only reach for it on special occasions. This is my way of making those bottles last awhile. I adored this one particular brand’s shampoo and conditioner because it smelled like Chanel no. 5 and made me feel like I spent all day at the salon but with each bottle costing upwards of $25 each, it didn’t get a lot of play. Now I’ve gotten over my shampoo and conditioner rationing thanks to MoroccanOil’s Moisture Repair Shampoo and Conditioner.
I’ve done a lot of damage to my hair during the last year going from brunette to red, back to brunette and then back to a reddish-brunette. I worried that my hair would only be fit for lining stables after the last time I had color lifted but I’ve been good to my hair and have been pampering it as much as I can. This pampering has involved using MoroccanOil’s Moisture Repair Shampoo and Conditioner more regularly. Normally this would be a “special occasion” shampoo and conditioner for me but it is so so good and much more affordable that I’ve decided I cannot be without it and have worked it into my regular rotation. At a starting price of $15 for an 8oz. bottle, I’ve decided that my hair is worth that much to me.
