Revlon + Product Girl Tackle the Red Lip

We’re back at you with another Revlon video! This one is near and dear to us because it covers a very important subject: RED LIPSTICK! Honestly, I credit Carla for my deep appreciation of red lipstick. She has been singing its praises for years, and knows every stain/gloss/crayon/stick there is to know and its texture/undertones/attributes.  For reals. She’s like the red lip dictionary. I’m pretty smitten because I’ve found a red lipstick that I LOVE. The name is very fitting: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Love That Red. And how I do, truly.

I walk you through the red lip look in the video, using the following Revlon products:

  • Revlon PhotoReady™ Perfecting Primer
  • Revlon ColorStay™ Lipliner in Red
  • Revlon Super Lustrous™ Lipstick in Love that Red
  • Revlon ColorStay™ Longwear Nail Enamel in Bold Sangria

There’s an ease with the rest of your makeup when wearing a red lipstick. You almost need nothing else on your face. And we speak from experience, red lips give you confidence like nothing else can. It brings out feelings of power and control. So ladies, own your red lips!

Also, we have a giveaway for you! We’re giving away ten (10) of the ColorStay Longwear Nail Enamel in Bold Sangria. It’s a new formula to the Revlon brand that is supposed to mimic the wear of a gel polish. It’s super shiny and really long-lasting. Leave us a comment here telling us your favorite way to rock a red lip (and feel free to confess you fear of red lipstick, too!) We want to know where you stand. We’ll pick our winners end of day on Thursday, April 26.

Also, click on over here to see the rest of the bloggers take on the red lip!

Don't Be a Makeup Snob and Check Out These BHCosmetics Palettes

I hate to admit this but I am a makeup snob, chances are you are too… at least that’s the assumption I’m making right now. When you’re a makeup snob, you tend to overlook blockbuster type palettes because you think there is no way in hell those eyeshadows are worth your time. Had I not been asked to try these palettes from BHCosmetics, I would have never tried them and I would have missed out on these gems. Let’s make sure you don’t make the same mistake! 🙂

My first palette discovery from BHCosmetics is this Jenni Rivera for BHCosmetics palette. This palette was a collaboration between Jenni Rivera and BHCosmetics. I didn’t know who Jenni was when I received the palette but then suddenly she was everywhere! She’s a famous Latin singer and has her own reality TV show, in case you didn’t know. She made this palette for her fans and filled it with 36 eyeshadows and 6 blushes in a variety of finishes for less than $20, it’s actually on sale right now.

Like I said, I’m a bit of a makeup snob. I expected these eyeshadows and blushes to be chalky and lacking in pigment but that wasn’t the case at all. Instead what I found is that these eyeshadows are soft and silky to the touch and blend really well. Of course I put these eyeshadows and blushes to the test. On my super oily lids with my favorite eyeshadow primer, I got about 5 hours of wear before creasing set in. That may not sound like a lot to you but trust me, for me that is huge. Short of getting my eyeshadow tattooed on, I have a hard time getting anything to stay put on these lids for long. I had better luck with the blushes, fading only started setting in towards the end of my day.

Product Girl Green Guide: Eco-Friendly Skin Care

With Earth Day right around the corner, Sunday, April 22, now seems like the natural time to share our top picks in eco beauty. All week long, we’ll be sharing our green recommendations in makeup, shower staples, skin care and more. Today, we’re sharing the eco-friendly skin care products we can’t be without. Read on for lots of plant extracts, oils and the most brilliant multitasking balms and creams.

1. Acure Facial Cleansing Crème, Olive + Mint. This creamy cleanser helps encourage new cell growth and actually helps you look younger. Literally, with each use, you are washing away worry lines! Organic acai berry, fair trade organic olive oil and Organic Chorella Growth Factor (to boost collagen…a.k.a. younger-looking skin!) are the star players. The cleanser is a fresh minty green color, and the smell is naturally sweet. ($14.99, Acure Organics)

2. SIA Botanics Blueberry Oxygenating Exfoliator. This brand recently popped up on our radar. All of SIA’s products are grounded in botanical bases and do wonders for damaged skin, blemish-prone, dull, dry, YOU NAME IT! The oxygenating action comes from jojoba beads which exfoliate the skin so gently you hardly know it’s happening. Blueberries and cranberries offer a surge of antioxidant power and olive and hibiscus are on standby to decongest pores. ($20, SiaBotanics)

3. La Fresh Waterproof Makeup Remover Wipes. La Fresh has a wipe for everything (and everyone!) — nail polish remover, insect repellant, body refresher, deodorant, puppy dogs, etc. We love the Makeup Remover Wipes and how they easily break down stubborn eye and lip makeup. They contain zero alcohol and no artificial fragrance or parabens. Look for a six oil blend of olive, jojoba, sesame, grapeseed, vitamin E and lavender. The lavender scent is very soothing at the end of a long day. True story.  ($9.99 for 24, La Fresh)

4. Weleda Skin Food. One of the best skin care products, ever. It can be used on dry hands, elbows and even your face. I even use it as a highlighter on my face as it gives a believable, natural dewy look to the skin. Organic pansy extract, known to be a mild antiseptic, calms irritation and essential fatty acids, vitamin E and organic sunflower seed oil heal the skin as well. It’s like a garden. It’s also super affordable and lasts a very long time. ($11.50, Weleda)

5. TAY All-Purpose Shea Butter. We live for a good shea cream. And Tay’s is about as pure as it gets. Organically harvested shea butter, from the Women’s Coop in West Africa, is infused with USDA Organic rosemary essential oil to create a truly aromatherapeutic cream. The scent is earthy and the benefits plentiful: hydrates skin and scalp, doubles as a hair styling aid and works wonders on ragged cuticles. The engraved wood packaging is also so unique. We love this! ($28, TAY Everyday)

6. One Love Organics Skin Savior Balm. Balms are a gift to the skin, and to those who never have enough time in the day. Pure, cold-pressed plant oils do the job of cleansing your skin and moisturizing it. The old oil breaks down oil story – it’s legit and this stuff works! Skin Savior is a precious organic blend of coconut oil, sweet soy seed oil, beeswax, mango seed butter, chia seed extract and more. We love to use this on our face, but also massage this in to the skin – anywhere head-to-toe – for an extra dose of pampering. ($68, One Love Organics)

7. Stark Skincare Green Tea Detox Clay Mask. By now, we’re all familiar with the “just add water” exfoliator, right? A brilliant idea that Stark takes one step further with a “just add water” mask. It’s a gentle, but powerful, blend of clay, green tea and fruit extracts that leaves skin brighter and cleaner after just one use. Green tea helps repair damage done by the sun and pollution and the mineral-rich clays remove impurities from the pores and improve skin’s clarity. The apple extract contains alpha hydroxy acid to gently exfoliate and improve skin elasticity. All of this in a POWDER! ($30, Stark Skincare)

What's in Her Makeup Bag with Stark Skincare Founder Jessica Lafleur

We haven’t had the pleasure of meeting cool Canadian chick and Stark Skincare Founder Jessica Lafleur in person, but we already know we want to be besties with her.  We love her line of natural, organic skincare and the message it conveys: simplicity and purity. We also love her Pinterest boards, especially “My Man is Also My Living Doll, So?” Speaking of her man, she sent me her photo for this very post right here and the file name was called “MyLove.” It was from her husband’s computer. ADORABLE, right?  We don’t know much about Mr. Stark Skincare, but we like him, too.

Jessica graciously let us peek into her makeup bag. She’s the ultimate expert in organic ingredients and natural skincare, so we were thrilled to see what products she uses on a daily basis. Read on to the end, because Jessica also is asking everyone reading for some very important makeup advice!

With Earth Day right around the corner, Sunday, April 22, now seems like the natural time to share our top picks in eco beauty. All week long, we’ll be sharing our green recommendations in makeup, shower staples, skin care and more. Today, we’re bringing you our thoughts on eco-friendly makeup. Read on to find out about the perfect cheek color, an organic highlighter and the juiciest tinted lip balm that’s good for you, too.

1. Tarte gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara. Lashes are gifted with this mascara — healthier with each use and the appearance of majorly lengthened fringe (by 121% according to Tarte). Amazonian clay works to hydrate and repair lashes, and reads and treats your lash concerns giving you what you need (hence the “smart”) It’s all legit. We are huge fans of this at Product Girl. ($19, Tarte Cosmetics)

2. Josie Maran Argan Color Stick. Have you ever seen Josie demo these on QVC? Josie and her crew of models always look so radiant and healthy. That’s exactly the effect of the color stick – it brightens the complexion and cheeks are hydrated and dewy. Free of fragrance and parabens and full of essential oils, vitamin E and of course, argan oil. Rosey is the perfect shade for all skin tones, but we recommend trying them all (check out this sampler!) ($22, Josie Maran Cosmetics)

3. RMS Beauty “Un” Cover-Up. A foundation, concealer, skin healer all in one. RMS redefines makeup with this product, helping treat and nourish the skin where you need it most. Coverage is beautiful, all signs of sallowness, redness, blemishes and uneven skin tone are instantly gone. Blend with your fingers and watch “Un” Cover Up become your skin, but better. ($36, Spirit Beauty Lounge)

4. Vapour Organic Beauty Trick Sticks. Made with 70% certified organic ingredients and 30% natural mineral pigments and vitamins, think of these are the green version of a NARS Multiple. We like that they are tiny and can be used directly on the brow bone, inner corner of the eyes and just about anywhere you want to highlight on the face. ($20, Vapour Organic Beauty)

5. Alima Pure Nourishing Lip Balm. There’s many a tinted balms with peppermint oil out there, but we have a special spot for Alima. When you put these on, a rush of moisture fills lips and makes them looks super juicy. Not a surprise, since Alima formulates these with soothing antioxidants, organic plant oils and butters. Rhubarb is the perfect pink! ($7, Alima Pure)

6. EcoTools Mini Kabuki brushes. EcoTools uses earth-friendly, cruelty-free materials to make its brushes. These mini kabukis, part of a 4-piece set, are both the cutest brushes we might own and probably among the most used. Quality is gained with EcoTools, not sacrificed. Don’t you love when you get both effective and adorable? ($14.99,

Leaf and Water Holistic Skincare

I wish I could sit here and tell you I’m a seasoned pro with facials, I really am not. Before this, I’ve had one bona fide spa facial in my life and I was an experience I’ll never forget even though it was years and years ago. Not many gals get a chance to have a facial at the Clarins Institute in Paris but luckily I did. When the gals at Spa Week invited me to get a facial at a local spa as part of National Spa Week (happening right now until April 22nd!), I jumped at the chance. I wanted to re-live that experience and leave the spa completely relaxed and without a care in the world. That’s exactly what happened when I left Leaf and Water Holistic Skincare.

Having a facial with Holly Luedke at Leaf and Water Holistic Skincare was an experience I’ll be repeating and I can’t wait for that to happen. The spa was small and intimate, a great environment that immediately made me feel at ease and relaxed. Holly is a licensed Naturopathic Aesthetician (one of the few in my area) and started Leaf and Water in 2007 with a philosophy that beautiful skin is healthy skin and that healthy skin is best achieved via natural methods. As I am progressing towards more natural products, both makeup and skincare, this was intriguing to me. We began our time together with an overview on how Leaf and Water works, which included an intake of my skincare concerns then started the facial.

Kiehl's Recycle and Be Rewarded (with this Mark Ruffalo picture and video)

Kiehl’s is coming really close to turning this in to a Mark Ruffalo fan blog.

Mark (we’re on a first name basis) is one of the four celebs teaming with Kiehl’s on its partnership with Recycle Across America™.  He helped design a limited edition label for the Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque, and 100% of net proceeds of sales of the specially-packaged Rare Earth masque will benefit Recycle Across America. And his campaign photo (by Timothy White) is just so, well, hot. I mean…right?

Kiehl’s Recycle & Be Rewarded Program:

  • 3 empties=a Lip Balm #1
  • 5 empties=1 product from the Official Kiehl’s Travel Collection
  • 10 empties= any single product with a value of $25 or less

Kiehl’s is also  relaunching its in-store recycling program to help encourage its customers and fans to return empty Kiehl’s bottles, tubes and jars. You’ll see a brand new bin in stores with four different segments to separate the different components of a Kiehl’s product. Pretty cool! I am a card carrying member of the Recycle & Be Rewarded program, and I love it. So must others….since 2009, Kiehl’s has already recycled 500,000 bottles.  Free stuff JUST for recycling in-store. MAC does this, too, and we wish more companies would catch on.

I leave you with this INSPRING video of Mark Ruffalo during his Kiehl’s shoot. He talks about his love for his kids, changing the world and using Kiehl’s. It makes me happy, He is GOOD PEOPLE. You’ll be happier having watched this – promise:)

Five Year Engagement Giveaway!

I am a sucker for anything with Jason Segel in it so naturally The Five Year Engagement immediately went on my “must see” list. For this movie, Jason teamed up with the producers of Bridesmaids for this comedy about an engaged couple (Jason’s fiance is played by the lovely Emily Blunt) that keeps getting tripped up on the long walk down the aisle. The cast also includes Chris Pratt, Alison Brie and Rhys Ifans. You can watch the trailer for The Five Year Engagement here. Here’s a brief synopsis of the movie for you:

Exactly one year after Tom Solomon (Segel) met Violet Barnes (Blunt), he surprised her with a ring. By all accounts, Tom and Violet are destined for their happily ever after, but career plans and comical problems manage to torpedo every “save the date.” Five years later, two people who once dreamed of the perfect day just want to get it over with. Through the humorous trials of discovering who they will become as a couple, Tom and Violet will learn if they have what it takes to survive their five-year engagement.

We’ve partnered up with the film for a new giveaway. You can win a $25 Visa cash card for a “Night at the Movies” and a Five-Year Engagement Cosmetic bag filled with lip gloss, nail file matchbook, eye mask, purse hanger, comb/mirror and a little faux bling engagement ring. Call it a mini emergency kit for your night out, if you will. 🙂

Keep reading for your chance to win our “Night at the Movies” courtesy of the movie!

Product Girl Green Guide: Eco Bath & Body Picks

With Earth Day right around the corner, Sunday, April 22, now seems like the natural time to share our top picks in eco beauty. All week long, we’ll be sharing our green recommendations in makeup, shower staples, skin care and more. Today, we’re kicking off with eco-friendly options for bath and body. Read on to find out about “curoxidants,” the best body scrub I’ve ever used and a cleanser you need for your shower.

1. Acure Energizing Body Lotion in Mandarin Orange + Mango. This zesty vegan moisturizer uses Fair Trade Certified ingredients and for every bottle bought, one tree is planted. This good for you and the planet moisturizer includes Acure’s signature “Curoxidant Blend” of five certified organic superfruits and herbs: acai, pomegranate, blackberry, rosehips and rooibos. ($9.99, Acure Organics)

2. J.R. Watkins Naturals Grapefruit Sugar & Shea Scrub. In full disclosure, I am a proud member of the PR team for this brand. I am obsessed with every single Grapefruit product they sell (home + personal care!) but this scrub takes the cake. The sugar and shea oils are perfectly blended in the tube (no annoying separation like so many other sugar scrubs, wahoo!) and they melt into the skin both shedding dead skin and moisturizing at the same time. Also, it’s grapefruit. Need I say more?  ($13.99 J.R Watkins)

3. Suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser. This one is a shower staple. Sugars and lemongrass extract work to unclog pores, smooth and resurface skin. Rub a nickel size in your hands to break down the sugar a bit and you’ll see it start to foam. Then massage gently into your face and it does the work for you. I have to resist the urge to use this every day (as the last time I did I had to go on an esthetician-mandated exfoliation diet!) ($30, Birchbox)

4. JASON Pure Natural Shampoo and Conditioner. (Super Shine Apricot and Long & Strong Jojoba) You may know JASON for its practically life sized bottles of body wash, but did you know the brand just re-launched its line of Shampoo and Conditioners? The Super Shine Apricot is a mix of organic botanicals, vegetable proteins and vitamins. Hair feels super clean and healthy…and smells great, too! ($7, JASON)

Just Another Mani Monday: Watermelon and Mint Nail Art

We could spend hours on Pinterest looking at nail art. There is so much cool stuff out there. We dabble here and there with layering glitters and creating a “party” nail (ring finger) but artists we are not. Then I came across this guest post on the Birchbox blog from Glitter, She Wrote about the secret weapon of nail art and felt compelled to create. The secret? SCOTCH TAPE! So simple I almost smacked myself. Before you click on over to Anna at Glitter, She Wrote, and see brilliant nail art, let’s talk about my ONE nail I’m showing you. It was the best one, so I took the liberty of sparing you the others. Although, I have every intention of sporting the imperfect mani all week. It does look pretty good from afar…

Using tape as a nail art tool is best on second day polish. I painted the bright watermelon Deborah Lippman Daytripper on Saturday and on Sunday, blocked off tape so that I could paint my tips (French manicure style) with Essie Mint Candy Apple. I chose to paint just a thin strip, but the options with tape are truly endless. I could do a grid, vertical or horizantal halves or zig zags. I had a few challenges removing the tape and it was a little uneven on a few nails even though the tape peeled off perfectly. I give myself a C+ for the final result but an A for effort! A little bit of tape is opening up a whole new world of manis for me. Will you give it a try?
