Good food, great music, cheap beer, sunny weather…sigh…I am so wishing I was in Austin this week for South by Southwest. The mere thought of it makes me giddy for springtime and outdoor concerts. Just because I’m not in the great state of Texas this week doesn’t mean I’m not day dreaming of wandering down 6th street and getting breakfast tacos at Kerbey Lane. And I’ve got to have something to wear in my daydreams, right?!
Anyone lucky enough to be in Austin this week?

As I make the move to more natural products, toothpaste is one I’m all about. I mean, just think about how much you ingest each year? It’s been trial and error for me for months on this, but I’ve finally found one that I LOVE: Vitacare. The flavors are delicious and fresh—minty with a side of acai, key lime or pomegranate.
I’m happy to trade in the SLS, glycols and artificial coloring for toothpaste with vitamins A, C, D, E, calcium and cranberry extract. The unique flavor is a nice twist (love the + Acai) and the addition of silica helps whiten teeth. Just because there is no fluoride, doesn’t mean you’re not getting what you need. My teeth and gums look better than ever. And, this one’s all mine on the bathroom vanity. Thank goodness — sharing a tube of toothpaste with my husband really triggers my OCD (he squeezes from the top!)
You can find Vitacare at Whole Foods and online.
Beauty.com is teaming with designer Erin Fetherston for its designer bag series. And this one is so GOOD. Erin designed an adorable vintage-inspired train case filled with some of the best samples I’ve seen in a long time.
“For my exclusive makeup bag for Beauty.com, I was inspired by the nostalgia of travel and vintage luggage,” said Fetherston. “I love the contrast of the structured shape to the whimsical and fun butterfly print lining. It adds a touch of glamour to your everyday routine.”
The train case opens to reveal a touch-up mirror, side pockets and butterfly print lining fresh from the ERIN by Erin Fetherston Spring/Summer 2012 collection. Fashion + function. Look for the following samples as well:

The brighter the better for nail color is the path I’m taking this spring. Deborah Lippmann Daytripper is one of my favorite polishes, and a total must-have for spring. It’s a bright watermelon color that, when on the nails, has mood-lifting properties. Seriously, wear it and try to tell me any different! This past weekend, I was traveling for work and I took a redeye flight home on Saturday night. Coupled with daylight savings time, I was in a serious mood (part sleep delusion/part cranky). Once I painted my nails with Daytripper, my mood turned around completely. True story. Polish can alter your mood. Especially when you paint it without making any mistakes, which Deborah Lippmann makes so easy with her fabulous formula.
What’s everyone wearing on their nails this week?
Sheer you say, Jouer? I say these Jouer SPF 15 Lip Sheers are a lovely mix of color and shine. A step up from sheer, and when layered I think they are actually quite punchy with color. Which means I’m totally in love with them. I’ve been craving color lately, and Jouer’s formula goes beyond just great color to nourishment and protection. Laced with Vitamin E and Aloe Vera, lips lock in moisture and stay that way.
- L-R: Jouer St. Barths, Positano
There are four shades in total, St. Barths, sheer coral red, Positano, sheer berry wine, St. Tropez, sheer shimmering bronze nude, and Capri, sheer baby pink. I’m really into the coral St. Barths right now. I also love that it has SPF 15. Bring it on spring sunshine!
Benefit’s Boi-ng Concealer is one of the first items I tried from the product line. Ahh, memories. I’ve always found a good match with shade two, light-medium, and I’m kind of a pale chick. With only two shades available, so many of you have been shut out of the Boi-ng market before you could even get in it. But not anymore. Benefit has smartly added three new colors, ranging from 3 (medium), 4 (medium/deep) to 5 (deep).
This concealer is heavier (it’s not called industrial strength for nothing!) and works great to conceal blemishes, dark spots and other flaws. I like to apply directly with my fingers (clean hands when dabbing in the pot!) because the warmth of my fingertips helps blend and cover really naturally. To my not so fair ladies out there, congrats on the new concealer opportunity waiting for you with Boi-ing!
The special Birchbox Vichy box arrived just in time for a series of business trips. These baby-sized samples are 3-1-1 friendly, and also, perfect for skin. Win-win. As if we needed another reason to love Birchbox, they go ahead and create a special box with Vichy, in addition to the monthly subscription, and offer it to a segment of subscribers based on their beauty profiles. Vichy has been around since the 1930s, named after a small town in France known for its antioxidant-rich mineral waters.
I tested several of these products while traveling for work, and was really impressed! While the moisturizer samples added weight to my carry on bag due to the glass pacakging (very chic), it was worth it. The Aqualia Thermal Cream Fortifying & Soothing 24-Hour Hydrating Care moisturizer is so soothing. After a few hours on a plane, four hours of sleep at the hotel and a nearly 18-hour day that ended with a return flight back to Chicago, my skin stayed hydrated. I didn’t even get a travel blemish (the worst). Also, Vichy’s Purete Thermale 3-in-1 step Cleanser is made for traveling, or those looking to save some time. It’s a cleansing milk, toning lotion and makeup remover all at the same time. Effective, too!
I’m on another trip this weekend, and these Vichy samples are tucked into to clear, TSA-approved ziploc. I’ll hopefully be avoiding the travel blemishes on this trip, too. Let us know if you were one of the subscribers that recieved the box. We’d be interested to know your thoughts.

For some being “beauty obsessed” means different things. For a “product girl,” I think it means having a sense of adventure. At the core of our love of beauty is having a little fun with our makeup. Be it wearing a bold lip or rocking false lashes; we like to try new things. I can think of nothing more fun in my beauty routine right now than Maybelline’s Dream Bouncy Blush. It’s like a grown-up play doh or something. It’s a cushy powder/gel formula that has actual bounce. Like legit spring! It’s beyond cool. Fingers are the way to go here with application, and the colors are just stunning. Ten in total, but I’ve got a few favs.
Last night I was drooling over the Laura Mercier Portfolio again, I have been an admirer of this portfolio since I first saw it at the old day job a few months ago. It is pretty damn amazing. For a moment I was distracted by this new set from Laura Mercier, I just had to talk about because the value is so good here. For $39.50, this Laura Mercier Smoky Effects Smudge, Blend & Gloss Eye and Lip Set comes with Laura’s Caviar Stick Eye Color in Golden, a travel Crème Eye Detail Brush and mini Lip Glacé in Bare Pink. The brush and gloss may be mini but they make this totally makeup bag worthy and good for getting a solid smoky look on the go. Lately my makeup routine has consisted of whatever I can put on my face during my commute and this fits right in with that!
You can find this set exclusively at Nordstrom. And pre-order that Portfolio while you’re at it, it will be gone before you know it and it’s too good to pass up.
