Celebrity makeup artist and creator of the namesake collection Vincent Longo is heading to HSN. As we like to say, queue up the DVR! On Thursday, March 22, Vincent Longo will showcase the classics at 7am, 4pm and 8pm eastern time. Look for demos on the Water Canvas™ Base Primer, Water Canvas™ Creme-to-Powder Foundation, Velour Pressed Powder, 1-2-3 Trio Eyeshadow and Perfect Shine Lip Gloss.

“My signature line is comprised of professional-grade products such as those used by makeup artists, now made available to HSN customers. By adapting the latest in research and technology, I create products that blend form, function and fashion, allowing the wearer to tap the well of her own beauty.” — Vincent Longo

For me, Vincent Longo is a brand that goes on and off of our radar. I really like the Water Canvas products — especially the creme to powder foundation. it’s pretty amaze stuff, so I’m excited to check out the segments and see Longo live up and close. I love seeing an artist in action!

Meet Your New BFF: Q-tips Precision Tips

Q-tips are one of the greatest inventions, ever. I use them every day.  I always have a full box of back-up box in the event I run out. It’s just like toilet paper. You only have to run out once (without back-up) to never let that happen again. Total necessity, guys.

My obsessive need for Q-tips has reached a new level with the new Q-tips Precision Tips. It’s opened a whole new world of function, especially in the beauty routine, with the dual-ended tapered tip. The question isn’t what can you do with these, but rather, what can’t you do? Seriously, a box of these belongs in every room of the house. At least every bathroom!

The Top 10 Ways I Get My Q-tip Precision Tip On:

The "Kitten" Eye, ala Precision Tip
  1. Extending my eyeliner into a perfect “kitten” eye. It’s like the juniors version of a cat eye. I extend my eyeliner out just a bit and use the Precision Tip to clean it up and taper it out.
  2. Brow tamer. Dab a little balm (I like One Love Organics Skin Savior) on the edge and tame away strays.
  3. Applicator. It can fill in in a pinch for eyeshadow, concealer, pot of lip gloss (I hate sticking my fingers in pots of gloss!)
  4. Smoky-eye enabler. This tapered end makes it easier to blend eyeliner out around the rims. Plus, it’s disposable so if you’re traveling and don’t want to pack all of your brushes, this works great. AND…you can just toss and go.
  5. Lipstick helper. I’m terrible about using a lip brush. I prefer to apply and clean up after. Usually I can get it perfect —- and when I can’t, I use these. Also nice to touch-up in the corners of the mouth which can build up with product.
  6. DIY Mani-Pedi. Dampen the end of the Precision Tip with nail polish remover and erasing mistakes is easy as pie. This might be favorite use for these!
  7. Blemish buster. Break the habit of using your fingers to apply acne spot treatment and use a Q-tip instead. If you do this on the go, use the other end to dab a concealer on the blemish. The pointed edge makes it easy to target.
  8. To clean the computer. These are perfect for cleaning my laptop keyboard and getting in between the keys.
  9. Duster. While the Keurig brews or I wait for my bagel to toast, I use these to clean. My baseboards have never looked better.
  10. For the poochie. I have a Boston Terrier. She has crevices. I use these to clean in and around her adorable face wrinkles!

Bonus tip: Stash these in your makeup bag in your purse (I use the Target brand to-go q-tip case and refill it). If you need these for any of the above on the go, you’ll be glad you have them. And, if your eyeshadow creases or mascara transfers, I like to use these instead of my fingers to prevent the spread of bacteria from your fingers to your face.

Hunger Games COUNTDOWN + Make Up For Ever HG Appearance

The anticipation of the Hunger Games movie is almost too much to take. It’s finally here. Almost, anyway. We cannot wait to see this movie. Tickets have already been purchased and plans have been made. I first read the series about a year and a half ago, and feel so attached to the characters. Can’t wait to see the Rue scene…hoping to keep it together!

The head of makeup for the film, Ve Neill, used quite a bit of MAKE UP FOR EVER on set.  Here’s what we know:

  • Cinna’s gold eyeliner is courtesy of MUFE Metal Powder #1
  • Katinss wore a mix of MUFE HD Foundation throughout the flick. Ve mixed different shades to give her skin different color effects throughout the movie.
  • MUFE HD Blush #9 was used to highlight Katniss’ cheeks

In other exciting news, have you heard Taylor Swift’s song for the movie yet? Check it out here if you haven’t…curious which scene it will be played! And while you’re at it, read this article with Jennifer Lawrence on her favorite scenes.

Just Another Mani Monday: Color Club He Loves Me

As we enter the FIFTH day of 80 degree weather in Chicago, I am understanding what it is like to live in a “normal” climate. Is this what San Diego is like? I will say, my mood is great. And my mission to embrace brights in every aspect of life is emboldened (pun intended). For this week’s manicure, I went part bright, part pastel courtesty of Color Club He Loves Me. This adorable mini came in my March Birchbox. What do you think? It’s a petal pink that takes on brighter look on my hands. I think it brings out my non-existent tan. How is everyone’s week kicking off? And what is on your nails for the week ahead?

Beauty VIP of the Week: Bright Lipstick

Have you heard? Lipstick is having a moment. Particularly the brights. This awesome piece in the Wall Street Journal by Elizabeth Holmes (@EHolmesWSJ), “Very Bright Lipstick, All the Time,” confirms my longing and NEED to rock the bold lip. Except I’m not tied to just one shade. People, there is a bright lip movement happening, and you need to join in.

I had at-length conversations with friends and coworkers this week about the mood-lifting, confidence-creating side effects of wearing a bright lipstick. Particularly on a warm sunny day when all you want to do is smile and be happy. We say leave the fear behind and dip your toes in the bright lip water. Pretty soon, you’ll be swimming in coral and pink.

For this reaason, bright lipstick was the Beauty Vip of the week. But I couldn’t pick just one.
NARS Mexican Rose Velvet Gloss Pencil. I deem this color universally flattering. I also found it particularly impressive that it lasted for 12 hours (with only lip balm applied a few times throughout the day). And, I had chicken wings for dinner.

MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick in Full Speed. Quickly becoming my go-to “coral” because it has a salmon pink undertone that I find super flattering. Buy this. Then wear it, a lot. And please report back.

MAC Viva Glam Nicki Minaj. This is bright, and badass. Sure to shock everyone you see, in a good way. Also, please ignore “the face” I seem to be giving in this pic.

Where do you stand on the bright lip? All day, every day? Sometimes? Or never? Let’s talk about it!

Get the Look: Smoky Eyes

Some exciting news on the Product Girl front! We’ve teamed with Revlon to create videos each month highlighting beauty trends. We are very excited to be a part of this effort (we’re in good company!) First up? Conquering the smoky eye. One of our favorite looks, yet one that we recognize can be a challenge. We promise…it’s not that scary. And if it is, embrace it. A little smoke around the rims of your eyes is sexy!

In this video, we focused on three products to get the smoky look:

  • Revlon PhotoReady™ Eye Primer + Brightener
  • Revlon® ColorStay™ 16 Hour Eye Shadow  (in Siren)
  • Revlon PhotoReady 3D Volume™ Mascara

I really liked the Eye Primer + Brightener. I’ve been using it a lot in place of concealer (or in conjunction with, depending on how many hours of sleep I’m getting!) with great results. It also works as a subtle highlighter along the cheekbone. Because I liked this one so much, I’m giving away 10 of the Revlon PhotoReady™ Eye Primer + Brightener. To enter, leave a comment on this post by next Friday, March 23. I’ll select 10 winners at random at the end of the day.

And, we’ll be back each month with a new look. With each one, I hope to impart some beauty 4-1-1. Also, you guys, videos are hard! Kudos to you that do them often. Major kudos.
