As if this week’s Beauty VIP could be anything but the Urban Decay Naked2 palette. It’s good, guys. Really good. Urban Decay sure knows how to create a neutral phenomenon. Whether or not I needed this palette, I needed it. Ya know? And I’m so happy that it did not disappoint. I’m beyond impressed. Borderline obsessed.
It’s the holiday season! And with more parties to attend than a college freshman, I’ve found myself on a frantic hunt for the perfect outfit – one that puts me in the Christmas spirit but doesn’t make me look like Santa’s mistress (read: must avoid faux white fur trim and black patent leather belts). I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of the predictable red and green ensembles that overpopulate holiday soirées.
This year I’ve decided to save some cash (and time) and recycle an LBD that’s already hanging in my closet. To switch up the look, I suggest pairing your LBD with a bold accessory such as patterned tights, a statement necklace or a sparkly clutch. To add a pop of color to my outfit, I’ll be wearing my LBD with Sam Edelman’s Portney Pump in Watermelon – a fresh take on the candy apple red that is so common this time of year.
And a must-have for any holiday clutch is the NARS Danmari All About Cheeks Palette. In my opinion, NARS can do no wrong when it comes to blush and bronzer. This palette includes some of their best colors which flatter almost every skin tone and are sure to give your winter skin a much-needed color boost. It comes with six lust-worthy shades: Hungry Heart, Super Orgasm, Desire, Casino, Orgasm and Sin.
So, what will you be wearing to your holiday parties?
Lately I’ve been on the hunt for some new favorite lip products, but what makes finding such a good product even better is when you just happen to stumble upon it! I was checking out my local Nordstrom and I saw that they now have make up in their Brass Plum section. I was on the hunt for a pair of big, fun earrings, and instead found my latest favorite lip gloss.
It’s the NYX Cosmetics Mega Shine Lip Gloss. I’d never tried a NYX lip gloss before so I wasn’t sure what to expect so being the cautious shopper that I am, I only bought one. But as soon as I paid that $5.50 for it, I glossed up my lips with it for the first time and it was love at first use!
The pigmentation of these glosses is just right, and depending on which shade you get, can really go a long way and complete a look. The first shade I got was in Beautiful, then I went back to the bin and picked up Nude Peach, La-La, and Perfect. The consistency is exactly what I look for in a gloss, not to sticky or thick, just right. Officially one of my everyday glosses now.
We were pretty happy when we opened our email this morning to see a Friends & Family sale happening at Stephanie Johnson. These makeup bags are the best! Especially at a 40% discount. The Lima Purple Essentials are one of our holiday gift picks this year! Gifting beauty is so much fun — take a makeup bag, fill it with some beauty goodies and travel essentials (face wipes, lip balm, q tips) and you have a complete package.
Stepahnie Johnson’s sale goes through Monday, December 12. Check it out!
Winter is hard work. All of the layers, boots, hats and gloves needed just to go outside. I live for the moments at the end of the day and in the morning before work where I can just be cuddled up inside the house. I love getting cozy gifts, and giving them too. What woman doesn’t want warm and fuzzy slippers under the tree?
Here are our top picks for the cozy set this holiday season.
Anthropologie Madero Hoodie – The details on this Sherpa-lined hoodie are what I love. The cinch-tie waist lends shape and the front flap pockets are just too cute. Plus, it’s long enough to wear with leggings. $88, Anthropologie.
I like good odds. Which is probably why I never play the lotto, or gamble much. I’m thinking a lot of you think along these lines, too. So I know you’ll appreciate skincare guru Peter Thomas Roth’s Facebook giveaway, happening now. With 20,000 winners, it’s the biggest Facebook Skincare giveaway to date.
The prize? A deluxe travel-size Peter Thomas Roth Laser-Free Resurfacer serum. The ingredient to note? Dragon’s Blood. Lest you think that Mr. Roth resurrected mythical creatures, let us assure you that Dragon’s Blood is a red resin drawn from a tree native to the Amazon that was used by natives for centuries to repair skin.
To get in on this, head on over to Peter Thomas Roth on Facebook and “like” the page. From there, enter your mailing info and check back to see if you won. The odds are in your favor.
But wait…there’s more! Peter Thomas Roth is offering Product Girl readers the chance to win a $100 gift card to spend on his products. To enter, visit PeterThomasRoth.com and leave a comment on this post telling us what you’d buy. We’ll pick a winner on Sunday, December 11.
***NOTE: This giveaway is now closed. Congrats to our winner, Tamara C!
Dry shampoo is a staple in my life. I used to wash my hair every single day, and now I’m more of an every other day washer (or two, if I can get away with it). Now that my hair is to the middle of my back, it is a serious job to wash, dry and style. As an aside….sleeping is also much more difficult with long hair. It’s always getting caught under my arm and getting in the way of my requisite seven hours. But I digress…dry shampoo! More specifically, LUSH No Drought – brand spanking new and pretty darn good.
LUSH No Drought is a dry shampoo in the traditional sense: a loose powder that you massage into your scalp and through your hair. It contains corn flour and talc to absorb the oilies, which does the trick for me. What makes this so special, though, is the SMELL! Lemon, grapefruit and lime oils make this pretty much the best-smelling dry shampoo I’ve used. I absolutely love citrus smells, especially grapefruit.
The price is pretty attractive as well at $12.95 for 4.6 oz. I don’t know about you, but I can burn through an aerosol can of Batiste pretty darn quick. While that may be a less expensive option, I think LUSH No Drought will last through many more un-washings.
I also find that applying this before bed is the most effective way to wake up with fresh hair. I usually sprinkle some in, massage it and throw my hair up in a bun. Long hair is seriously challenging to sleep with when it is not up!
Fashion and beauty are natural companions. Which is why I think I have such a great connection with Product Girl’s newest contributor, Emily. She also hails from Chicago, and happens to spend about 40 hours each week with yours truly. (Yes, we work together.) Since the moment I met her, I’ve been doling out beauty tips and she’s been telling me what shoes to buy. As much as we love sharing beauty and style tips with each other, it seems more fitting for Emily join to us on Product Girl and share her POV with all of you. She’ll be posting a weekly column here about all of her style finds and pairing them with a beauty item of choice.
But before Emily gets started, we wanted you to know a little bit more about her. Read on!
I’m ready to give this week’s manicure, featuring Zoya Izzy, the title of official color of holiday 2011. I wish I could wrap all of my Christmas presents in this exact shade of nail polish. It looks like fuschia metal! How cool is that? So cool that I think I need the other two shades in Zoya’s Gems and Jewels Holiday Collection. These are straight up party in a bottle. While I meticulously change my mani every Sunday while watching The Good Wife (last night’s ep — SO good), I think even I may have to do a mid-week change next week and reapply this in time for my office holiday party. The month of December was just made for colors like Zoya Izzy.
This tiny bottle was a nice surprise in my November Birchbox! We know many of you subscribe. Did you get this shade, too? It may look unassuming in the bottle, but once you get it on, PARTY time.
Benefit is releasing a brand new box of powder later this month called Hervana. The good news is that you can snag it several weeks early on Monday, December 5, at Sephora. Available online, for one day only. [Beauty and the Blog]
The beauty auction brought to you by bloggers and brands with all proceeds benefitting Doctors Without Borders is going on at BeautyBloggers.org through Monday, December 12.
I spotted this Butter London Glitter Trio in an Ulta mailer this week and was entranced. Pretty, right? I especially love the rosy pink. $36 at Ulta.
Holiday party season is upon us. Check out these two simple makeup looks to get you party ready. [Refinery 29]
Rhetorical beauty questions: Do I need another neutral eyeshadow? Does that stop me from wanting the Urban Decay Naked2 palette? It sold out in just a few hours, but it will be back. If you want in too, get on the list. [UrbanDecay]
