Currently Loving: LUSH Ro's Argan Body Conditioner

There’s a new product in my shower that I am SO EXCITED to tell you about. LUSH Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner is completely shaking up my morning routine and has me excited to get out of bed and into the shower. Seriously, my snooze button is on notice. Get this: it’s a ROSE JAM scented body conditioner that is so insanely moisturizing. It absolutely blew mind the first time I used it – the smell is heavenly, and actually very subtle once you get out of the shower and on with your day. Of course, that day will start that much more efficient because you will already have moisturized in the shower. You may, however, obsessively touch your skin and smell your arms because it’s just THAT GOOD.

Did I mention how moisturizing it is? LUSH spared no emollient. There’s Brazil nut oil, cocoa butter, cypress oil, capacu butter, shea butter, almond oil and of course Argan oil. There’s even a touch of spring water to cool the skin down. Simply amazing. And so perfect for winter.

Ro’s Argan just launched as part of the LUSH 15 — 15 new products and innovations, many of which are a first for LUSH. You can check it in stores or at LUSH online, where it retails for $29. Annual Charity Auction is Live!

For the second year in a row, beauty bloggers and brands have joined forces for an online auction benefitting Doctors Without Borders. In the spirit of the season, we wanted to make a meaningful contribution to charity. Together, we’re auctioning off new makeup and beauty items to bidders anywhere in the world. Every penny of the winning bid will go to Doctors Without Borders. In fact, when the auction ends, winning bidders make their donations directly to Doctors Without Borders, through the site’s secure giving page.

Product Girl donated a Clarisonic Opal, and there are SO many great treasures in the auction this year. Like the entire NARS 2011 Holiday Collection , for example.

The auction is open through Monday, Dec. 12. Go check it out at!

Just Another Mani Monday: Essie School of Hard Rocks

My sparkly Thanksgiving mani endured quite the workout over the holiday weekend — between all of the cooking and clean-up, and Black Friday shopping, it lost some of its luster. I like to start the week with a fresh manicure, so I opted for School of Hard Rocks from Essie’s Cocktail Bling collection. It’s a creamy, muted green-grey (official description is midnight malachite). It’s a pretty unique shade, and comes across a little brighter when outside — which I love. I think this color will be complimentary to a fresh covering of snow. We had a few flurries in Chicago this morning, but nothing really stuck. I’m still hoping for a good snow, soon. I always look forward to the first one!

What’s everyone wearing on their nails this week?  And, has winter arrived by you yet?

Cyber Monday Beauty Deals

Just when you thought you did enough damage to the wallet on Black Friday, Cyber Monday deals start rolling in! The sheer volume of sales and promotions is straight up overwhelming, but there are some fabulous buys to be made. Here are the deals that caught our eye.

Amika is offering a special Cyber Monday deal to its Facebook fans — a whopping 40% off! Amika stylers are AMAZING, as is their Oil Treatment (see our review here). This deal does not come around very often, so this is one to act on a.s.a.p. Visit Amika on Facebook and become a fan to access the promo code.

June Jacobs is offering 40% off all products through Monday, November 28. I’m totally eyeing up the new Perfect Pumpkin Enzyme Polish, and its powerhouse list of ingredients. Another must have? The Intensive Age Defying Hydrating Masque – check out our review on this Beauty VIP.

This one is technically not a Cyber Monday special, but it’s too good not to include. By Elizabeth Dehn‘s The Serum is buy one get one half off through Sunday, November 27. This fits beautifully with the “one for you, one for me” mentality that I am guilty of when holiday shopping! But, seriously, The Serum is heavenly. The gift of healthy, glowing skin is something every woman wants in her stocking, no?

Josie Maran is offering 25% off through end of day Monday, November 28 with code giveback at checkout. Plus, free shipping on orders of $25. I love to give the travel sized Argan Oil as a gift, so will be stocking up!

It’s baaack! Stila‘s cyber Warehouse Sale is coming, beginning Monday, November 28 through Friday, December 2. Our advice, check it out early to take advantage of the best deals. Prices will be up to 80% off.

Kate Somerville is offering 30% off with promo code HOLIDAY2011 through Monday, November 28. Obviously, you need to pick up some Exfolikate. Another Product Girl fave is Kate’s Cytocell Dermal Energizing Treatment, which is a crazy effective innovation!

Happy shopping!

Happy Thanksgiving + Holiday Nails

Happy Thanksgiving from the Product Girl team. We’re so very thankful for all of our readers, who humor us every day! Hope everyone stateside is enjoying today with family, friends and good food. A virtual cheers to everyone! In honor of one of my favorite holidays, I thought I’d add some sparkle to my manicure. In fact, my new motto through the end of the year is “just add sparkle.” I started with two coats of Essie Brooch the Subject from the Winter Collection. It’s a lovely creamy nude cashmere color that is very flattering to my skin tone. Then I added a single coat of Deborah Lippmann Boom Boom Pow, concentrating larger chunks of glitter towards the very top of my fingertips. A coat of Seche Vite to smooth everything out, and you’re all set. Such a fun manicure, and very festive. Anyone else going to “just add sparkle” this holiday season?

A Few of Our Favorite Things…Animal Instincts Edition

Happy Thanksgiving-eve, all! I’m so thankful for Thanksgiving, truly. Turkey, sides (really, I can’t just pick one camp) and of course, Black Friday preparation. I OWN my love of Black Friday shopping. I could write a thesis on how it’s actually one of the best days to shop all year. Stores are prepared for you! That said, I will not be a midnight shopper, but likely a 6am shopper. We’d be interested to know where you stand on the issue. Now, onto this week’s holiday gift picks!

  1. Amika Leopard Mini Ceramic Styler – Usually mini hair devices are major flops in the performace department, but not this styler from Amika. It’s essentially the same as their full-size version, just mini. It uses the same infrared heat and negative ion technology, and heats up to 400 degrees. Perfect for travel! Is that matching carrying case not the cutest thing you’ve ever seen? The price is GREAT too at $25. Available at Sephora.
  2. Zoya Feel Collection – During the holidays, I’m all about sparkle, shimmer and rich colors on my nails. But come January, I want some warm and cozy neutrals to match my post-holiday mood. I would love to see any of these neutrals from Zoya’s new winter “Feel” collection in my stocking! The sampler would be a great buy so you can divide up for gifts (and keep a shade or two for yourself!) Available at Zoya.
  3. Madewell Furry Earmuffs – Adorable AND cozy. These are impossibly cute, and practical. Sadly, they are also getting hard to find. They’re sold out on, so if these are on your gift list too, find a store stat! Available at Madewell for $39.
  4. Stephanie Johnson Lima Purple Essentials – These are among the best makeup bags ever! And I’m enamored with the faux purple python finish of this collection. The ML Traveler is my go-to travel bag, and a gift I love to give. Available at Stephanie Johnson, $42-$82.

We’ll be back next week with more gift ideas. Happy Thanksgiving to all, and a “good luck” if you too venture out on Black Friday!

Narciso Rodriguez Essence in Color

I get the feeling Narciso Rodriguez must personally know me because he keeps clearly designing fragrances for me. I first fell in love Narciso’s namesake fragrance, he wrapped me up in its beautiful warm cashmere blanket of a scent and kept me cozy and warm and now he just keeps making fragrances that feel like little personal gifts from him to me. I feel like Narciso is extremely intelligent with his design as he seems to know who loves his fragrances and keeps building on that initial attraction. I am now truly in love with Essence in Color. Like his namesake, it is a beautiful skin but better scent.

Essence in Color is feminine but not girly, it has a hint of timeless classic yet there’s a refreshing clean feel that is overly soapy. As Essence in Color is going to play differently on everyone’s skin on mine it opens with a lovely and delicate top note of rose petals, the powdery and clean iris note carries through from the middle to the dry down with a very quiet hint of amber that adds to it being warm but doesn’t take away from it being clean smelling. Essence in Color has great staying power and lifts off the skin just enough for someone close to enjoy it.

You can find Essence in Color at Macy’s and Sephora online starting at $84 for a 1.6oz bottle. I can only hope someone decides to make other products with this scent. I would gladly submerge myself in a barrel of this scent. Stay tuned for more on Narciso Rodriguez For Her in Color. Have experienced any of his fragrances?

Winter Trends from Chic Studios

It’s that time of year! When we put away the tanning lotion for trenchcoats, the bikinis for the brr… you get the point! Winter is around the corner (in some places, already here :() but with the season, comes a new set of beauty trends. The team of professional makeup artists at Chic Studios NYC,  are ready for the changing weather, and share the hottest trends!

“Using a serum in the winter (dry) months, will help revitalize the skin cells, and rejuvenate your skin! I love and recommend Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate! One of my other favorite winter trends is using a cream blush all over skin, cheeks, eye lids and lips, which is a great way to keep your handbag light, and your skin supple! My go-to product, is NARS Cosmetics for cream blush!” -Amy Nicole, Director of Chic Studios NYC

“During the winter months the skin becomes more dehydrated. You really need to beef up on the skincare as well as eye cream so the skin can be prepped and allow your foundation to look as great as possible. This winter is all about skin! Try using MAC Strobe Cream underneath your foundation for the extra glow. I also recommend using illuminators at the top of the cheek bones and a bit on the nose. I am really enjoying ‘Odyssey,’ the liquid luminizer by Illamasqua.  One of the other tips I also recommend to keep the cheeks fresh by using a cream blush, or a liquid stains like Benefit “Benetint.” And, my look is a gorgeous set of lashes (build-able mascara) with a light shimmery gloss on the lips.” -Ruthie Weems, Professional Makeup Artistry Instructor at Chic Studios NYC

“Winter is killer on my skin — so upping my beauty routine is a must! I always start with a strong, non-pore-clogging moisturizer like Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre. My sensitive skin can’t thank me enough! For makeup, I love Makeup Forever Rough Lipstick line, especially the lighter, more nude colors like #1, which is a matte flesh color. On my paler winter skin, it just brings my whole look together, whether I have a heavy eye or a wing liner! And to finish off the wintress wear, paint your nails a soft blue, like ‘Coco Blue’ from Chanel. Being an ice queen has never been so pretty!” -Christina Olivo, Admissions & Marketing Director at Chic Studios NYC

“Some tips this winter that are vital for trendsetting: Dark burgundy/wine lips with a creamy matte finish is hot this season, try OCC’s lip tar in “Vintage.” To vamp up your look for all the holiday parties, and, a very black liner rimmed all around the eye smudged out with a crease brush is a great trick! Try “Smolder” liner from MAC. And La la la lashes! Don’t be afraid to do 3-4 coats! Try Smashbox DNA mascara, I swear by it!” -Angelique Velez, Professional Makeup Artistry Instructor at Chic Studios NYC
