For the first time ever, NARS has created a limited edition exclusive collection for Fashion’s Night Out. The Silver Odyssey collection features a Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner in Crispi and a Nail Polish in Space Odyssey. Crispi is a silver shade while Space Odyssey is an aluminum shade. The eyeliner retails for $23 and the nail polish for $17, both will be available on September 8th on narscosmetics.com.
I’m excited to hear more about NARS involvement in Fashion’s Night Out, this is just a sneak peek for us. Stay tuned to their Facebook page as they will telling us how we can participate in Fashion’s Night Out with NARS!
Earlier this month at Cosmoprof I had the chance to see the new CND Shellac shades hitting salons this fall, you can see my Shellac mani here. I’m happy to see CND release a glitter and I’m hoping we’ll see more of this in the future, it would be great to see something like their Effects for Shellac. Hopefully this is the beginning of that.
Here are the shades being added to the lineup from left to right:
- Zillionaire – sheer multicolored glitter.
- Moonlight Roses – opalescent pink.
- Studio White – semi-sheer soft white (french manicure option).
- Asphalt – concrete gray.
- Hotski to Tchotchke – vibrant teal.
- Purple Purple – iridescent azure violet.
Don’t let the image here sway you on some of these, the shades are really gorgeous in person. The bottles are a little deceiving. Purple Purple is definitely a purple and doesn’t look as blue as the bottle looks and Hotski to Tchotchke is not as neon as it looks. You can see more of Purple Purple and Hotsky to a Chotchke at Plastic Diaries and you can see more of Purple Purple, Hotski to Tchotchke, Zillionaire and Asphalt at Temptalia. These shades will be hitting salons next month.
I didn’t know this before but you can apply color on top of Shellac without damaging it when you remove the color. I tried this with my recent manicure and I was surprised at how easily the nail polish came off, as if the Shellac base made it easier. This made me think about using Studio White to protect my nails while some of the damaged parts continue to grow out. This way I could start swatching!
Any of these new shades inspiring you to get Shellac’d? Let me know in the comments.
It seems like it was just a few days ago that I was in Las Vegas for Cosmoprof but it has been 2 weeks already. Isn’t it crazy how time flies? Before we know it, it will be the holidays and I will probably still be playing catch up then.
If you have been reading Product Girl long enough, you may remember that I went to Paris a few years ago and attended the Beyond Beauty show. Cosmoprof is a lot like that show only it seems like this show was much, much larger. Ultimately the show is geared towards distributors and manufacturers but this year Cosmoprof had a huge blogger turn out and I was happy to be one of them. I met with fantastic people, had 2 fantastic manicures and saw everything scheduled to come out for winter, holiday and spring. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience, it was amazing!
The show is overwhelming for the average beauty lover, there is a LOT of ground to cover, so much that it feels like 3 days is not enough time to see it all. I definitely did not see everything I wanted to see but I did spot some good beauty finds along the way. One of my favorite things about the show was the Love + Toast booth. I’ve already told you about this brand but seeing everything they have to offer in person was a whole other story. And could their booth be any more charming? No, I think not.
NARS Fall 2011 collection is equal parts confident, intense and edgy. I absolutely love the campaign image, featuring Italian model Mariacarla Boscono. While the eyes are the focus in the vibrant blue Outremer eyeshadow, I’m drawn to the barely there nude lips. And the brows. Those are fantastic looking brows, filled in NARS Bali eyeshadow.
The lip color range in NARS Fall is impressive. From the deep aubergine Train Blue Velvet Matte pencil and the new Pure Matte Lipstick additions in Montego Bay, a rose pink, and Mascate, a true red, to the sparkling pink champagne Oasis Lip Gloss. For me, though, I had an instant attraction to the petal pink Pago Pago lipstick.
Historically, I’ve had normal to oily combination skin. But I’ve noticed now that I’m approaching my third decade, my skin is changing. It’s moving towards normal to dry, and for the most part, I ain’t mad about it. This shift comes with its own set of needs, and it’s very apparent when I make the wrong decision with skin care. This week I tested out a new cleanser that’s meant for oily to combination skin, and it left me with the worst dry patches around my noise. It stripped my skin completely, and I couldn’t shake the scaly feeling even after moisturizing. Enter this week’s Beauty VIP, June Jacobs Intensive Age Defying Hydrating Masque.
This masque is no joke. It completely eliminated those dry patches and provided my skin with the most intense blast of hydration. The tiniest bit goes a long way, which is great, considering the $80 price tag. The intense moisturizing properties are matched with a potent combination of anti-aging ingredients to smooth fine lines and increase collagen and proteins in the skin. There’s white, red and green extracts coupled with goji berry, pomegranate and grapefruit extracts to help neutralize signs of premature aging, which if you go outside at all, are everywhere in the form of free radicals floating around in the environment.
A few more ingredients to boast about are sweet almond oil, rich in fatty acids and vitamins A and E, and something called Konjac Mannan, which comes from the root of a tree that grows in Africa and Asia. While the ingredient doesn’t have name recognition, its effects are obvious on the skin. It acts as a humectant to maintain moisture and helps create volume in the skin’s appearance.
Another perk? You can reap the effects of this masque overnight by applying it in a thin layer. It will perform like a balm so it doesn’t make a mess on your pillow. I tried this and woke up with plump, healthy-looking skin. Amazing! I sense a weekly winter skincare ritual coming on…

Laurie JUST now informed me that there’s a new Fresh Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment on Sephora’s website, the new Fresh Passion Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment. This has this gal excited, I own all of these and the addition of a new sheer crimson red is perfection in a tube. With a name like Passion, part of me hoped there was some passion fruit scent or flavoring to this but then I realized, nope… Fresh wouldn’t stray from their memorable scent/flavoring. The “passion” here refers to the tint. It also refers to how I feel about this lip balm!
For the last few years, Chanel has introduced limited edition nail polishes for Fashion’s Night Out. Last year it was the Les Khakis de Chanel collection and the year before that was the Jade collection. This year we’re going from khakis to jeans.
On September 8th, Chanel will debut this collection created by Chanel Makeup Creative Director Peter Philips exclusively in Chanel boutiques and on chanel.com. The collection includes three shades: Blue Rebel, Coco Blue and Blue Boy.
Always creating trends that others follow, Peter has developed a trio of blue lacquers, inspired by quintessence of casual chic: denim. A gradation of three shades, the colours range from deep to medium to very pale blue, evocative of the different styles and shades of one of the world’s largest wardrobe staples.
The collection will be on sale through the end of the month. I’m usually not a blue nail polish gal but Chanel could be the one to turn that around for me with Blue Boy. I can’t wait to start seeing swatches of this collection pop up online.
There are a few camps of people: some who are perfectly content falling asleep with makeup, and others who would never. Even in my most inebriated state, I’ve been known to bust out the Clarisonic. Clearly, you know which camp I fall in. I take my skincare routine very seriously.
A key part of said skincare routine is using a serum in the morning and night. Think of a serum as a drink for your skin. Like a cocktail of antioxidants. While there are many formulas and potions out there, I swear by the power of SkinCeuticals. I like to describe it as being in a constant war against free radicals and other environmental stressors, and SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF and Retexturing Activator are my soldiers. These products have got my back in the battle against environmental stressors and signs of aging!
This week we are taking a peek into Jenna Hipp’s makeup bag. Jenna is a celebrity manicurist based in LA, her client roster includes Jessica Alba, Fergie, Eva Longoria, Rachel McAdams and Lea Michelle to name a few. She has an impressive body of work that I’m sure you’ve seen on the cover of Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire and In Style. Remember that recent cover of Rolling Stone with Alexander, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer covered in fake blood? Jenna worked that cover too. Can you imagine being on THAT set?
Jenna is a former model and makeup artist but it wasn’t until she moved to LA that she started making a name for herself as a manicurist under nail great Lisa Postma. In 2007, Jenna got toxic poisoning from all the fumes she was exposed to on a regular basis. Since recovering, Jenna has become an advocate for organic beauty and is now known as the “green” nail manicurist working with lines such as RGB, more on that very soon!
Here’s what is in her makeup bag in her own words: Continue reading
This week Maybelline’s iconic Great Lash Mascara turned 40 years old. This made me think about one of the first beauty products I started using once my mother started letting me wear makeup. One of those products was Great Lash and to this day, it is probably the beauty product I have re-purchased over and over and over again. To this day, the women in my family still use it. You can’t pry the Great Lash out of my younger sister’s hands!
One thing is for sure, without Great Lash, many of Maybelline’s amazing mascaras wouldn’t be here today. Also, Great Lash continues to be the #1 selling mascara in the US with a tube sold every 1.7 seconds. Can you even imagine that? In celebration of this momentous occasion, Maybelline collaborated with Max Azria, Tracy Reese and Vivienne Tam to create this limited edition release of the infamous pink and green tube.
