Very exciting news for NARS fans! The brand is launching a new, super-creamy eye pencil called Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner. When we caught our first glimpse at these eyeliners, we were excited. The colors were so vibrant, and the pencils glide on with just the softest touch. NARS formulated them to be super-creamy and very long-wearing (a purported 12 hours!)
And the fun part? NARS named the nine shades after the most iconic streets in the world. Here’s the color story and the street-spiration:
Via Veneto (deep black) – One of the most famous streets in Rome, Italy. Federico Fellini’s classic 1960 film La Dolce Vita was mostly centered around the Via Veneto area.
Santa Monica Blvd (crisp white) – One of the most famous streets in Los Angeles County.
Via Appia (copper brown) – One of the earliest and strategically most important Roman roads of the ancient republic.
Abbey Road (iridescent turquoise) A street in London, England, after which the Beatles named one of their albums.
Bourbon Street (festive purple) – A famous and historic street that spans the length of the French Quarter in New Orleans.
Rue Bonaparte (light almond) – Laid down in the 16th Century, this French street accommodated some very fine distinctive mansions. Today it is an upscale home to fashion shops.
Rue Saint-Honoré (deep royal blue) – The rue Saint-Honoré is an ancient street in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, France. It is named after the collegial Saint-Honoré church situated in ancient times within the cloisters of Saint-Honoré.
Madison Avenue (slate gray) – An avenue in New York City, that’s name has been synonymous with the American advertising industry since the 1920s.
Rue de Rivoli (metallic forest green) – One of the most famous streets of Paris that features some of the most fashionable shops in the world.
I can’t wait to get my hands on Rue de Rivoli and Rue Bonaparte! In fact, I think they’d be beautiful together. What about you? Any Larger than Life pencils sticking out to you? And do you, too, have the Backstreet Boys song of the same name playing on repeat in your head?!
Leave it to Chanel to create another “it” color for the upcoming fall season. While the buzz may be about the green-gold duochrome Peridot released with the brand’s 2011 Fall collection, Illusions D’ Ombres, Chanel Graphite has captivated my attention. I can honestly say that I’ve never come across a nail polish with such dimension. It’s a beautiful blend of mixed metals, sometimes gunmetal and other times pewter and gold, with pops of multi-dimensional glitter. What other brand can accomplish all of that and still keep it classy? Of course, Chanel.
While I am quite content wearing Graphite during probably the steamiest week of the summer, I cannot wait to wear it come fall when I’m sporting sweaters and boots! While $25 is a spendy amount for nail color, we think this one’s worth the splurge. I received my bottle as a birthday gift…from my husband. He generally has a hard time understanding the ins and outs of beauty, so imagine my surprise!
Softsoap’s Body Butters have been in rotation in my shower for a little while now, they have been keeping my skin soft this summer. I was in a trance with Heavenly Vanilla until another scent took its place, using this in the shower practically teleports me to a tropical resort. The warm vanilla smell IS heavenly and reminds me of the tropics, there may even be a bit of amber in the scent to make the scent heavenly. Heavenly Vanilla is not a scrub but when I want some buffing action, I have been turning to Coconut Scrub and my new shower obsession: Strawberry Smoother.
Both of these scrubs have buffing grains that are gentle and small enough to use everyday without exfoliating your skin to death and they both have delicious scents that you can appreciate in the shower. What surprised me most of all with the scrubs is that you can get a really good lather going with them and you do not need to follow up with another product to make your skin feel clean, as I sometimes feel the need to do. I got Strawberry Smoother this week and have not been able to stop using it, it smells amazing in the shower. It could fit right in with Lush’s line-up. I like this one so much I actually poured a bit of it in my bathroom soap dispenser for my sink. There’s nothing wrong with a little exfoliation when I was my hands, is there? Got to keep my hands looking young!
L’Oreal expanded its Colour Riche line of lip color with a new lip gloss called “Le Gloss.” With Le Gloss, L’Oreal promises lots of shine and hydration. And with ingredients like omega 3, vitamin E and argan oil, it definitely is made to be moisturizing. When I spotted the display, I was instantly drawn to it — with the pops of bright colors and wide variety of nudes. I honed in pretty quickly on this pretty pink shade in Baby Blossom. In fact, it reminded me of another cult favorite gloss….NARS Turkish Delight.
This week we’re taking a peek inside Tawni Hart’s makeup bag. Tawni is the Nordstrom Beauty Director for the NE region and she’s based in Paramus, New Jersey. We have been taking a look at the makeup bags of the different regional beauty directors for a little while now and it is only fitting that the last of Nordstrom makeup bag peeks coincides with the Anniversary Sale that is starting this Friday. I’ve made my haul list, have you? Tell us what you’re hauling from the sale in the comments.
Keep reading for a look into Tawni’s makeup bag in her own words.
If you’re like me, when you’re watching Keeping Up with the Kardashians or Khloe and Lamar, you’re always looking at what shade is on everyone’s nails… particularly Khloe, I have a feeling we are shade soul mates because she’s always rocking shades I would wear. It is an occupational hazard I guess.
If you watch the show, you also know this Kardashian Kolor collection with Nicole by OPI has been in the works for awhile now. On Monday Khloe and Kourtney Kardashians were in New York to launch the collection that is due in stores in October. In case you’re wondering, Khloe is wearing her Khloe Had a Little Lam-Lam and Kourtney is wearing Kourt is Red-y for a Pedi. I am obsessing over Kourtney’s lips in this picture.
Margot Elena fascinates me, she’s the force behind TokyoMilk, Lollia and Love + Toast. I would love to peek inside her makeup bag and I’m hoping we get to do that! I’m already a fan of her brands and they continue to impress me and peek my curiosity. Right now I’m curious about Love + Toast’s Daily Shampoo and Conditioner. How can you not be curious with packaging like that? I’ll admit, it reeled me in completely. Charming packaging aside, the shampoo has ingredients like white tea, sage, grapefruit and mint to clarify hair and restore shine. The conditioner has jojoba oil, almond milk, soy protein and grape seed extract to smooth hair. If your hair needs a little tender loving care, the Rich Shampoo and Conditioner are right up your alley.
Something I’m planning on ordering is the Love + Toast Happiness Kit, it has a little bit of everything it seems. It includes this shampoo and conditioner along with deluxe trial sizes of shower cream, body lotion, sugar scrub, facial scrub, facial cleanser, moisturizer, lip scrub and moisturizer. This kit is packed with 10 little pick me ups for $16.99 and seems like it’s the perfect way to explore more of the Love + Toast line. I’ve wanted to try more of it since I became obsessed with their Gin Blossom Hand Creme (the scent is refreshing and the creme is fantastic) but it was sort of out of sight, out of mind. Now it is very much on my mind. Laurie mentioned seeing the brand at Whole Foods in Chicago, I think my weekend might involve tracking the line down here in Seattle.
What is your beauty curiosity? What line have you been curious about and want to know more about? Maybe we can help you with that.
Last but not least for tonight’s nail polish posting, Zoya’s Smoke and Mirrors collection. This collection has 12 new shades for fall, 6 of them smoky, sultry creams and the other 6 smoky, sultry metallics. Can you guess which team I’m on? While I may be Team Smoke, all you metallic lovers out there will be happy with the Mirrors portion of the collection.
In addition to the set Deborah Lippmann created for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, her fall collection is also available when the anniversary sale starts this Friday. Tonight I was in Nordstrom scoping out all the exclusives in person and I got a chance to play with these new shades. Above all, I’m excited about the red shade. That has “Carla” written all over it.
Here are the shades in the collection:
Stormy Weather – edgy granite (creme)
Billionaire – moody hunter green (creme)
Single Ladies – flirtatious red (creme)
Brick House – shimmering rust (shimmer)
Stormy Weather was a collaboration with fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez. The designer usually requests a nude nails to go along with his designs but this time around with his fall 2011 collection, he wanted something bold with strength and edge so Deborah mixed a new shade by hand in just 24 hours. The final product was an edgy granite that emanated power and intensity. As for the other shades, Deborah noticed warmth was a common theme among her collaborators at Fashion Week. She wanted to capture a similar heat and earthiness in the other polishes but with an added punch.
So what are your plans on Friday? Mine are heading straight to Nordstrom after work to pick most of these up!
