The third installment of Serena Williams collaboration with OPI launched this month to coincide with Wimbledon. Unfortunately she didn’t go all the way at the tournament this year but this part of her Glam Slam collection is definitely a hit with me. Serena experimented with different glitter shades and created these shades to wear alone for a pop of color or to layer with the glitter in the bunch; Servin’ Up Sparkle. The other two shades are Your Royal Shine-ness, a metallic silver shade and Grape…Set…Match, a metallic purple.
I only applied two coats on each “nail” here and you can see Your Royal Shine-ness and Grape… Set…. Match do not need anymore coats but Servin’ Up Sparkle could stand for another coat or two but even at two coats is still sparkling and gorgeous. The glitter lover in me loves this shade long time, very safe to say that this shade along with Spark de Triomphe are my favorites from all of Glam Slam shades.
There’s one more release in the Glam Slam collection. The fourth and final installment of the collection will launch in August to go along with the US Open. I cannot wait to see what’s next! What do you think of the Glam Slam releases?
I like my Estee Lauder Pure Color manicure in Mega Fuchsia as much as I do the bottle of nail polish itself. Released earlier this spring, Estee Lauder Pure Color Nail Lacquer’s are chic as can be. But I’d expect nothing less from Estee’s Creative Director Tom Pecheux. Mega Fuchsia is a sophisticated spin on the color (which I perpetually cannot spell) and satisfies the pinky-purple lover in me.
Mega Fuchsia debuted this spring exclusively to Nordstrom, and was a limited edition color. However, some counters may still have it. But if not, Estee Lauder has a Fuchsia Flame color in the permanent Pure Color line. These run for $19, and are a great go-to item if you’re not sure what to get to snag their always-amazing gift with purchases!
Birchbox does it again! They have somehow brought back the excitement of getting mail. I feel like I’m 12 years old again, waiting for my YM Magazine to come every month. And for the month of July, Birchbox subscribers will be getting a special box curated and designed by Cynthia Rowley with her beauty faves.
While the monthly boxes are always a surprise, we have a few tidbits to share on what Cynthia Rowley picked for subscribers. We’ll get a hair product that is a must for all of her runway shows to an eye-changing brow pencil, and even the designer’s go-to snack. If you haven’t subscribed yet, you have until June 30 to sign up for the July box. We cannot wait!
P.S. Birchbox just added RMS Beauty to its store! Two words: Living Luminizer. You need this…
Sometimes, I can’t decide if I want to use LUSH Big Shampoo in my hair or pour it into a margarita glass and call it happy hour! While this Beauty VIP is intended for the former, the sea salt and fresh lime juice definitely pit this volumizing shampoo in a different category. It’s intended to give limp locks BIG volume, and the ingredients also have a clarifying effect.
The ingredients all have a special job to do. A seaweed infusion softens the hair, and strengthens in from root to tip. Fresh lime juice delivers crazy shine and gives hair that squeaky-clean feel. And the sea salt is full of minerals that blow up your hair in a way you wouldn’t think possible. The salt has an obvious gritty texture, and it feels fantastic to massage this into your scalp.
I love using this in the summer when my hair tends to fall into the “greaser” category more often. This whips it into perfect shape, and gives me that Texas hair I covet so much. My tip to you if you too want BIG hair: use a healthy amount of conditioner on the ends of your hair after using this shampoo. Then, style and enjoy your new found BIG hair.
I have been DYING to write about this collection for over a month now. When Laurie and I were in New York last month and met the fabulous gals at Tarte, we got to play with this collection. I am a HUGE True Blood fan so I was loving this collection from the moment I laid eyes on it. Maureen and the gals at Tarte created this collection to reflect the vibe of the show while maintaining their identity with their formulas and packaging. They also worked with Emmy award-winning makeup artist and True Blood makeup department head Brigette Myre-Ellis to create the beauty looks for the collection. Whether you’re a fang banger or just a waitress, the collection has something for you. Personally, I think I fall in to the fang banger camp. How about you?
The collection includes a a new cheek stain and LipSurgence lip tint both in Shimmering Red. The collection also includes a blockbuster palette with 17 matte and shimmer eyeshadows, an emphasEYES Aqua-Gel Eyeliner in black, a deluxe Lights, Camera, Lashes! mascara and a deluxe Lifted Natural Eye Primer.
Keep reading for a closer look at the key pieces in this collection.
Summer is on, officially, and we’ve been testing sunscreens like mad to find the best of the best. While SPF is a must at all times of the year, it’s especially important to load up during the summer when you’re exposing more skin and soaking up the warm sunshine. I like to get in as much beach and pool time as I can during the warm months, but admittedly, I’m guilty of not reapplying sunscreen as often as I should. Which is why the Aveeno Hydrosport line is a beach essential.
While no sunscreen is truly waterproof, Aveeno’s Hydrosport is as close as it gets. It contains Natural Lotus Complex, which is a water-repellant that clings to skin even when it’s wet – be it water or sweat. It’s pretty stubborn, you could say. And, you can even apply it to wet skin. The formula isn’t sticky in the least, and feels lightweight on. The Sunblock Spray is uber convenient for the beach, but I really like the lotion. It has a pleasant scent and blends into the skin well. If you are a beach dweller or very active, Hydrosport would be a perfect sunscreen for you.
Also, while we’re talking sunscreens, it’s important to note the new FDA regulations that will go into effect in 2012. For example, the Aveeno Hydrosport label will likely look very different, as will many others on the market. I think this is to our benefit, and we encourage you to read up on the matter! Check out Christine from 15 Minute Beauty Fanatic’s analysis on the matter. She breaks it down well.
After several seasons of carrying a heavy purse, I decided that for summer I would take a lighter approach. While I love my big bags, quite honestly, they can be straining on the shoulders and lugging them around can be a workout. True story: I went to my Doctor about four years ago because I was having chest pains. At the age of 25, I thought I was having signs of a heart attack. Typical hypochondriac behavior, I suppose (guilty!) Well, it turns out I wasn’t so crazy. No, not a heart attack but the pain I was having was similar and it was caused by carrying a heavy purse. If you’re interested, here’s the medical mumbo jumbo on this condition, which affects mostly women and is very treatable. The Rx: lighten your purse!
I spotted the Melie Bianco Jane bag and knew that it would be the perfect summer purse. I loved the structure and neutral taupe color, and I love it even more in use.
I love being “handsfree” with the crossbody, and even though this purse is tiny, it still fits everything I need. I had to make a few sacrifices, but I’m considering it doctor’s orders. The interior of the bag has a zippered pouch and two inserts that just scream “fill me with tubes of lipgloss.”
This may look like a lot, but I assure you, it all fits.
The other items are the purse usuals, wallet, phone, bus pass, keys, headphones, hair ties, etc. The sunglasses always rest on top, because that’s always the item that never wants to fit but that I refuse to be without. Amazingly, it all fits. Turns out, downsizing doesn’t have to be inconvenient!
Our first look at Tom Ford’s upcoming makeup collection were released by Women’s Wear Daily recently, rumors of this collection have been floating around for months. Now we know a little bit more about the line and can its packaging and campaign ads for debut in September. The campaign images feature the ever dashing Mr. Ford and model Lara Stone. This is the same Lara that Deborah Lippmann named Lara’s Theme for.
The collection will expand its now beloved Private Blend Lip Color Collection from 12 to 18 shades and also has a little bit of skincare to compliment the makeup. Products in the launch will include Traceless Foundation Stick, Illuminating Protective Primer, Intensive Infusion Concentrate Extreme and Purifying Creme Cleanser. There will also be two new fragrances: Santal Blush and Jasmin Rouge. Pricing for the collection ranges from $30 to $250 and for the fragrances it ranges from $195 to $475. This will be available in Tom Ford stores around the world, Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenues. This gal is praying to the Makeup Gods that it will also be available at Nordstrom.
“My intention was to do color cosmetics out of the gate, but not everyone else was convinced that I had a voice in color until the lipsticks started selling out again and again.” Who were these people that were not convinced? This will most likely be the most anticipated release of the year.
When I first heard of Serena Williams collaboration with OPI, I was a little dubious of what this collection would be like, it was around the time Bieber was in talks for his Nicole by OPI collection so I had a good reason. What I did not know then was that Serena Williams is actually a trained nail technician. I am really liking this collaboration, it has introduced shades that I am now obsessed with and others I am now trying to hunt down. Serena’s first collaboration was launched in conjunction with Australian Open in January and this part of it was launched last month for the French Open.
The Glam Slam! France collection features four shades; Spark de Triomphe paired with a White Shatter and Rally Pretty Pink paired with Red Shatter, each shade and Shatter sold as duos.
I am head over heels in love with Spark de Triomphe, it is such a gorgeous glitter. If a glitter polish could be elegant and rich, it would Spark de Triomphe. I am dying for my nails to grow back so I can wear this baby out. I’m strongly considering hunting down a back up, that is how serious I am about this shade. While it was meant to be paired with the White Shatter, I do not want to cover it up in any shape or form.
