I’ve come to expect Clarisonic pairings, they are a great way to get a Clarisonic and try new brands at the same time. Clarisonic has teamed up with my beloved Kate Somerville, Philosophy and Murad in the past. Now we have our first Clarisonic Opal pairing and I really love this idea; you have a tool to treat the eye area and you have products to define your eyes… it’s genius!
For just $10, you get two 0.25oz lip balms with SPF 25 (do you know most lip balms do not have this much SPF in them?) and you can only get these two flavors in this particular duo that is exclusive to Sephora. Both flavors are great, Grapefruit and Ginger is refreshing and Black Tea and Blackberry is a sweet summer treat. In case you’re unfamiliar with these lip balms, it has the texture of a MAC lipgloss and is very moisturizing, soothing as well. It is especially great for overnight wear. It’s the kind of lip balm that is essential for anything where the weather could do serious damage to your lips!
Have you tried this? What are your thoughts? Want to hear all about it…

It’s well known that tinted moisturizers rule the summer, and Jouer’s Sheer Bronzing Tint with SPF 15 for summer is ruling my every day. It’s not quite a traditional tinted moisturizer, but I’d count that among its many uses. I’ve become quite the self-tanning obsessee lately sometimes have difficulty getting that perfect match with other tinted moisturizers. Continue reading →
Today we’re taking a peek at Laksmi Sam’s makeup bag. She is a regional beauty director for Nordstrom based in the Midwest. Like every Nordstrom gal I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, Laksmi knows her stuff! In addition to beauty, Laksmi has spent some time in fragrance as a buyer so she knows what’s hot and what’s next in the world of fragrance. One of her picks for spring and summer that she told me about when I met her is actually in her makeup bag.
Let’s take a look at what’s inside her makeup bag in her own words.
It’s that time again. When it’s summer, but we’re talking about fall. Completely normal, right? Regardless, it’s exciting! While we’re very happy coddling our bronzers and brightly-colored eyeliners, the allure of fall makeup is very strong. Case in point: Laura Mercier’s Fall 2011 Canyon Collection.
For fall, Laura Mercier gives us beauty inspired from the earth – burning sunsets, lush green foliage and rustic copper canyons. Makes me want to go hiking (with a full-face of makeup on, naturally!) The look is balanced between eyes, lips and cheeks in the most natural, flattering hues. This is one we’ll be running to check out. Here’s the scoop on the collection:
Cheek Melange ($40)
Canyon Sunset (limited edition)
Eye Colour ($22)
Canyon Clay (sateen) new, limited edition
Chocolate (luster) new, limited edition
Pine Bronze (sateen) new, limited edition
Cedar (sateen) new, limited edition
Lip Glace ($22)
Quartz (new, permanent)
Mauve Plum (new, permanent)
Desert Rose (new, permanent)
Brick (new, limited edition)
Lip Colour ($22)
Bing Cherry (new, permanent)
Espresso (new, permanent)
Any standouts for you? Obviously, we are quite drawn to the Cheek Melange but the new lip and eye colors are quite stunning. I love the point of view of this collection, and think it’s one of Laura’s best. The collection is available online now, and should be headed to counters in the next few weeks. This has us very excited for fall — but please, no hurry on cooler temps!
I tend to go a little wild with the bright blues in the summertime. I’m usually not so rigid in the “rules” of seasonal color, but anything in the realm of aqua blue is made to be worn in summer. It’s the perfect complement to blazin’ temps. One bold aqua blue that I have grown quite fond of is Sephora’s Jumbo 12HR Wear Waterproof Pencil in Turquoise. It reminds me of a hybrid of NARS Soft Touch Shadow Pencils and Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Eyeliners. These wear like iron on the lids — 12-hours is an understatement — and the jumbo pencil is a nice touch and gives some flexibility with application.
I think the Turquoise is a mesmerizing shade. These have a creamy look to them, but believe me when I tell you this is not going to shift around at all. I like to wear it along the lower lash line, because it stays so well. It’s definitely an attention-grabbing color, but just a subtle pop of it makes eye makeup so interesting!
Sephora release 14 shades in total, and the best part? They’re only $10! Definitely give these a second look the next time you make a vis it to Sephora — if Turquoise isn’t your thing, the Taupe and Khaki will make you swoon. Promise! Oh, and in case you were wondering, the printed bag shown above is a NEST travel pouch that I got from Birchbox (free with any $50 purchase).

Part of the fun with all the “crackle” shades out there right now is finding that certain combination that you are absolutely in love with. I didn’t find mine until I started playing with the China Glaze Crackle Metals collection. We have all seen the basic crackle shades and then the expanded shades come through, now China Glaze is hitting us with these Metals and I happen to think that these are the best crackles I have seen so far. I am LOVING these shades against a light, creamy nude shade, it is a stunning combination and I took some pictures of my new favorite combinations for you to see.
