Happy Memorial Day to everyone! Thought I’d give you a quick peek at my manicure this week, courtesy of Illamasqua Bacterium from the Toxic Nature Collection. This is one of the most interesting nail polishes I’ve seen in awhile, and we are both obsessing over it! It’s an opalescent beige with hints of brown, grey and blue in a chrome finish depending on the light. I love complex shades, and this definitely fits the bill. Continue reading →
So often, we are conditioned to be bronze, bronze and more bronzed in the summertime. I know I’m all about it, but I’ve also got appreciation for the porcelain goddess who rocks her pale all year long. I imagine her to be like the model shown above wearing Face Stockholm’s Summer Overture collection. I mean, it makes sense. Pale is the new (and old) bronze in Sweden! I love the model’s sculpted cheek and the glassy lip. She looks fresh, and almost makes me want to give up the self-tanner. Almost.
The good news is, that this collection brings out the porcelain bronzed goddess in me even though I’m not so porcelain. The two new items, Sun Kissed Blush and Nypon Ros Nektar gloss give the perfect dusty pink cheek and the glassy lip I covet so much. The Nektar gloss is a sleeper hit for me. It’s a sheer peach that gives lips a perfectly dewy, multi-dimensional look. It’s the perfect complement to the Sun Kissed cheek.
I’m also really admiring the highlight shown on the model. Face Stockholm used the Creme Highlighter in Dignity to achieve the look. Because we are highlighter-phenes up in this blog, we will be investigating Dignity in the near future. Stay tuned, but in the meantime, you can see more on the Summer Overture look here!
This week my beauty VIP is Burberry’s Lip Mist Natural Sheer Lipsticks. I have been running around with a bad sore throat and earaches for almost 2 weeks now so putting on a full face of makeup has not been a priority lately but I have managed to put some color on my lips, that is a must… sick or not!
Burberry’s Lip Mists are sheer but in comparison to Chanel’s Rouge Coco Shine and Dior’s Dior Addict lipsticks but they have more coverage than their counterparts. These are sheerer than Burberry’s regular lipsticks though. It doesn’t feel as light on the lips or give off as much shine as the others do but what you give up, you gain in wear. These Lip Mists have longer wear on their side with a lovely shine and scent to boot.
They say that smells can trigger some of the strongest memories. In the case of Skintimate, I can trace some pretty good shaving memories back to a can of Raspberry Rain. Yes, shaving memories. You know you have them. Getting ready for a hot date and making sure your legs, among other things, were smooth. And you took your time because it would not be cute to have a fresh cut on your knee. So when I saw these adorable cans of Skintimate designed by Mara Hoffman, I was so excited. I honestly have not had a can of Raspberry Rain in my shower for quite some time, and with these pretty paisley cans, that’s all about to change.
There are four limited edition designs available, and they are just as good as the original. With summer coming, now is the time for me to stop shaving with body wash and give me legs a little t.l.c. The Skintimate Signature Scents contain moisturizing ingredients like vitamin E and olive butter which help soothe the skin while you’re shaving . Four scents are available – Raspberry Rain, Strawberry Tangerine Twist, Flirty Mango and Skin Therapy Dry Skin.
We had the pleasure of visiting Tarte’s offices in New York recently to meet with Maureen Kelly and her team. If you’re a frequent QVC-er (as we are), you probably feel like you already know Maureen. We certainly felt that way, so it was very exciting to meet with her face-to-face and talk Tarte beauty. She’s a breath of fresh air in person, and her passion for natural beauty is very apparent. She even volunteered to take off her heels for this photo because I was joking that I felt so short standing next to her!
When I first met Elizabeth Dehn, creator of BeautyBets.com, the first thing I noticed was her glowing skin. She looked radiant and healthy. And to give you some context, this was in the middle of winter (a.k.a dry skin season) after we’d both just schlepped it on early morning flights from the Midwest to Los Angeles. If there’s ever a time I look glowing, I can tell you that after a 6am flight cross country is not that time. I didn’t know Elizabeth’s secret then, but now I do — it’s her line of naturally luxe skincare, aptly named By Elizabeth Dehn.
After more than 10 years in the biz, Elizabeth created her own line of skincare using all-natural, nutritious ingredients that deliver for your skin. She calls them “glow-getters” and designed them with all skin types in mind. I’ve got to tell you, I am beyond impressed with these products. They feel good, smell amazing and most importantly, they work. And it doesn’t hurt that the packaging is so simple and luxe.
Today we are taking a peak inside Joelle Russo’s makeup bag. She is a regional Nordstrom Beauty Director and serves the Northwest, Northern California and Hawaii. She is based in Northern California but I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Joelle a few times now when I’ve attended the local Seattle area trend shows since she handles my area. She is the sweetest woman ever and an inspiration to me personally, she is the epitome of style, beauty and grace… and she has my dream job! We happen to share an addiction to magazines, we both run straight to the beauty section of any magazines and tear out the pages for future reference.
Last week, Product Girl was in New York to check out The Makeup Show. Last year’s show was a huge success and this year it was even better. In total, the show spanned two days, attracted more than 6,000 people and 60 prestige brands. The list of exhibitors was pretty impressive, including show newbies NARS, Yves Saint Laurent, RMS Beauty, Dermalogica and Kevyn Aucoin to name a few. We both had an incredible time at the show — shopping our tails off and spending some quality time together over a long weekend. Believe it or not, Laurie’s been contributing to Product Girl and talking me off beauty ledges for over a year and a half now and we have never met face-to-face.
We thought we’d share a few highlights from the show with you and give you a glimpse at some of our favorite things we took home. Many brands debuted new items and some even previewed upcoming launches (uh-huh, NARS!). For me, I was all about hitting up the Becca Cosmetics, RMS and OCC booths and that’s where I spent most of my money this year.
The joy I get each month from receiving that iconic pink Birchbox in my mailbox is nothing like the joy my mom got when she received her first box this past May for Mother’s Day. Birchbox is a great gift, no doubt, but the new limited-edition “Just Because” box is brilliant!
It’s filled with a mix of deluxe samples and full-sized products — beyond just beauty.
Full-size Jouer creme eyeshadow
Full-size Lipstick Queen Jean Queen lip gloss
Shu Uemura’s luxe hair serum, dubbed “liquid gold” by hair stylists
NEST’s gorgeous block print coasters, made by women artisans in India
Artisanal fruit preserves from a husband-and-wife duo (from Wisconsin! Cheese-state love!)
Artful sweets from New York’s Papabubble
Letterpress stationary from Tiny Prints
This box will be available for a limited time on Birchbox.com for $38 beginning May 26. What woman would not want this to show up in their mailbox, courtesy of a loved one? I think Carla and I might exchange them to each other ya know, just because:)
