The new Dior Diorshow 360 mascara peaked my curiosity simply because it’s a new Diorshow mascara. The original Diorshow mascara is a favorite of mine, and I’m sure a few of you as well, so why wouldn’t I want to try the new one? Then I learned that this mascara actually rotated, that’s when I opened my wallet and decided to try it… even though I have way too many mascaras right now. It’s almost obscene how many are floating around my apartment right now.
This new Dior mascara is the first mascara that I have tried that actually spins. The brush actually rotates 360 degrees (oh, that’s how they got the name! :)) in both directions to try and mimic the results of a professional makeup artist for perfect lashes. Part of it’s marketing is that it volumizes, lengthens and curls lashes… more on that in a bit.
This week’s manicure is Zoya’s Gemma. My tastes are definitely changing because I could not imagine like anything but red cremes a few years ago. Now I’m branching out into all kinds of shades and this gem is a great example of my ever changing taste in nail polish. This beauty is part of the Zoya Intimate collection, Gemma is an avocado green with a blue/purple duo-chrome finish… it is just beautiful and I am all about Gemma right now. This polish’s formula is well pigmented, two coats of polish was all I needed to achieve the color in the bottle and there was no cuticle drag at all. This shade will be the star of many more spring manicures to come.
The rest of the Zoya Intimate collection is equally gorgeous. It has some soft, muted color but also has a few bolder metallic shades. The shades in this collection truly bring to mind the romance the collection was inspired by. Other shades in this collection include:
- Marley – lavender pink with a whisper of metallic
- Dove – delicate, pale gray cream
- Caitlin – misty, moody gray violet cream
- Dannii – sparkling, enchanted orchid metallic
- Jules – soft, glimmering gold kiss metallic
If nothing else, get yourself some Gemma. Then if you have room to expand a little more, take a look at Marley, Caitlin and Dove. Can you tell what shades are my favorites?
How about you? What’s on your nails this week? Let us know in the comments.
From the moment I saw pictures of this Sephora by OPI Urban Ballerina set, I wanted it all. The idea of a punk rock ballerina just warms my heart… that I can never get enough of nude and grey shades. I am addicted to them! Am I alone here? This collection is making me want to attempt a look I’ve seen on the runway but have never had the guts to try, to take a dark beige shade on the whole nail then to taking a light beige shade and place it in the shape of an oval at the base of the nail. I think it will look chic, no? If I ever get bold enough to try it, I’ll definitely show you the results.
I picked up this set for $18 and it includes for 0.125oz bottles of Leotard-Optional, The Way Tutu His Heart, Who’s Spinning Tonight? and Break a Leg-Warmer! I do think some of these shades possibly have dupes in other lines but I figured I’d get the set and figure that out later. I wanted to make sure I got the “greatest hits” before I delved into my stash to see what I could do without before it was too late… knowing my level of procrastination, it could be awhile.
The rest of the Urban Ballerina collection includes:
- Break a Leg Warmer – opaque charcoal gray
- Leotard Optional – opaque mocha beige
- Let’s Plie – opaque metallic light beige
- Shinny Dancer – opaque slate with fine iridescent glitter
- The Way Tutu His Heart – opaque light pink
- Who’s Spinning Tonight – opaque metallic true grape
The full sized bottles from the Urban Ballerina collection are in Sephora now and bottles go for $9.50 each. I have to say, I think this collection kicks the Glee collection’s ass!
If you missed out on the OPI Crackle phenomenon, fear not! China Glaze kicks it up a notch with their new Crackle collection of polishes. Where OPI gave us 1 shade, this new China Glaze collection introduces 6 shades of polish to create an edge new look on your nails. The shades in this collection include:
- Lightning Bolt – white crackle
- Black Mesh – black crackle
- Broken Hearted – pink crackle
- Cracked Concrete – grey crackle
- Fault Line – purple crackle
- Crushed Candy – teal crackle
This works by applying the Crackle shade as a top coat over the color base of your choosing, either 1 or 2 coats. Then apply a thin layer of your Crackle shade over the top and within 5 minutes, the crackled look is completely formed. You can go over it with a top coat to seal the crackle in. You can find this collection in stores this month.
I’m happy that China Glaze gave us options, as opposed to OPI’s 1 shade, but really wish there was a gold or silver in the mix. That may be easily resolved though. As soon as I get my hands on some Crackle, I will definitely be experimenting. Will you be picking up a bottle or two? Are you on-board the Crackle train?
I am so loving that oil is having an “it” moment, because I cannot get enough. My outlook on oils has changed dramatically in the course of just a year, and my skin is thankful. Tarte’s joining in the exotically-sourced miracle oil with its Pure Maracuja Oil launching today on QVC.
Tarte’s Pure Maracuja Oil is harvested in the Amazon and is referred to as “pure miracle,” due to the miraculous effects on the skin. The “3Rs” for your skin: replenishing, rehydrating and reparative on all skin types. Maracuja vines wrap around trees along the Amazon river and once the fruit falls, Amazonian women taking part in Tarte’s sustainable-harvesting cooperative cut the fruit and hand press it during a unique cold-pressed ritual.
Like Tarte’s Amazonian Clay, the Pure Maracuja Oil appears to be equally “smart,” identifying your skin concerns and delivering targeted nutrients. You can check out Tarte Creator Maureen Kelly’s presentation on this product tonight, on the Q, at 7pm EST. Please tune in and let me know how it goes — I’ll be on a plane coming back from my wonderful, sunny Florida vacation and will have to catch the online version!
This week I started the Nutrisystem program and will be following it for the next 4 months. I’ve been interested in Nutrisystem for awhile now, my mother and aunt did it with some great results but I’ve never been able to afford it on my own. Thankfully Nutrisystem is going to be sponsoring me for the next 4 months and it means the world to me!
I’ve been on other diets more times than I can count but I have never tried a program where the food is already prepared so I was really excited about this. Not having to cook? That is amazing, because honestly, I am not a good cook but I can call in a to-go order like no one else. With Nutrisystem, my breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert is already prepared for me. All I have to do is add some protein, dairy, vegetables, fruit and carbs to supplement each meal.
This is me on my birthday in October. I’ve dealt with weight for as long as I can remember and I’ve been on other diets more times than I can count. Now that I’m in my early thirties it’s really time to get serious and get this weight off so I can live my life to its fullest.
My weight has kept me down for a long time, it’s the reason why you probably don’t know what I look like until now… because I’m just not comfortable or confident showing you what I look like without taking a gazillion photos in just the right lighting or just the right angle. I’m trying to turn this around now and become the person I want to be, a healthier person!
For the next 4 months, I’m going to be blogging about my experiences with Nutrisystem once a week. While blogging about a diet isn’t necessarily beauty related, I know, I hope you’ll bear with me during this time. After all, our diet affects our skin and our skin is at the core of our look… right? Here’s too some good before and after shots!
Disclosure: Nutrisystem is providing their program and support services free of charge for my participation in the Nutrisystem Nation Blogging Program.
My skin has not been co-operating with me lately and I’ve been in a mad dash to try and calm it down as quickly as possible this week. I still needed to exfoliate though so I reached for the most gentle exfoliator I had on hand, Mario Badescu’s Rolling Cream Peel with AHA.
It’s super easy to use and doesn’t require any water. You just take a small amount and apply it to your face in a thin layer, wait about a minute then you gently roll the product off of your face. I had to admit, I didn’t go with a thin layer of product… I’m the type of gal that likes to put glue on her fingers just to peel it off. It’s weird, I know but I enjoy it. Using this peel was just more of the same thing. It does not come off in one or a few pieces but it does roll off easily forming little balls. It can be a little messy though so you’ll want to have something catch the fall out. I actually kind of like seeing the fall out, it makes me feel like I did something worthwhile for my skin.
The aftermath is just smoother skin without any harsh granules or abrasiveness. I haven’t experienced any reactions and so far, I’m pretty happy with this. I just follow it up with a toner and moisturizer. The crazy part is that I picked this product up months and months ago during a trip to Canada and just started using it a couple weeks ago. Sometimes gems get lost in my beauty stash but I’m glad I was able to find this!
I’m on my megaphone here: MUST-HAVE, AMAZING SET by NARS, HOT FOR SPRING. The Sephora-exclusive NARS Front Row Set it such a fantastic set, that even the NARS ladies at Nordstrom were eyeing it up! For $59, you’ll get a four-piece set featuring the Nouveau Monde Eyeshadow Duo for spring, a mini Multiple in the exclusive shade Palm Springs, a full-size Orgasm Lip Gloss and a full-size Eyeliner Stylo in Nuits Blanches (jet black).
I love every piece in this set, but the star of the show is Nouveau Monde. This is a beautiful duo for Spring, and is everything I love about NARS duos. The pairings are interesting, not something you’d think to put together. But he metallic silver lilac and olive gold are like besties on the eyes — they are very complementary.
These shades work well on their own as well. I’ve been using the silver lilac all over the lid and drawing a thick line along my lashes with the Eyeliner Stylo. It feels very spring and has a brightening effect.
I spotted this set, along with the others NARS is offering, at Sephora. It’d be great to see these each season, don’t you think?
I’m having a bit of a moment with these new Burt’s Bees Natural Tinted Lip Balms. They are just delightful! It’s a conditioning lip balm that leaves behind the softest hue of color just as a tinted balm should. Of the six shades available, I’ve been using the lightest two: Honeysuckle and Pink Blossom.
They boast 100% natural ingredients (we covered off on my stance of that word last week!), and is certified as such by the Natural Products Association. They’re very moisturizing — which is likely due to the shea butter and the plethora of natural oils in the product — everything from coconut to vegetable and olive.
They do leave a really sheer wash of color on the lips that looks very fresh. The Pink Blossom (on the right) is my favorite — I could wear this all day, every day and feel put together. The only thing, Burt’s Bees, that sounded off my sustainability radar is why the added packaging? While the cardboard shell contains 60% post-consumer recycled content, it’s an unnecessary addition. If you’re going for low impact, certainly this isn’t going to help your footprint. That said, I’m keeping the balm housed in there until I’m ready to recycle it.
After 2 weeks of being stuck at home with a sprained ankle, I was just itching to get out and check out my favorite beauty spots and this weekend I finally had a chance to do that. I can admit that I was not a good girl by any means, I dropped the plastic a little too easily at Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus at the Chanel, Trish McEvoy and Le Metier de Beaute counters… not to mention the nail polish I hauled.
Had I stopped by Neiman’s and the Le Metier de Beaute counter first instead of the other way around, things would have gone down differently. When I first set eyes on this kaleidoscope at the counter, I immediately became obsessed with it and I haven’t been able to get it out of my head since!
