Just Another Mani Monday: Lancome Violet Groove & Le 54

I was going to do my nails with Deborah Lippmann’s Glitter in the Air but I’m saving that mani for later in the week because I want it to be as fresh as possible when I meet the Deborah Lippman on Saturday (at the Nordstrom downtown Seattle spring trend show). I decided on the Lancome Ultra Lavande spring collection polishes together, taking a page out of the All Lacquered Up playbook. Violet Groove is gorgeous on its own and right up my alley but adding some of the Le 54 shades on top just took it over the top for me.

Violet Groove is well pigmented and applies really easily. I didn’t want to pile on the coats of nail polish with this manicure so I only used one coat of Violet Groove and it almost gave me solid, opaque coverage. One more coat would have been perfection but since I was adding on some Le 54 on top, I figured I wouldn’t need to since the glitter shade also has some color to it. Sure enough, I can’t even find the few sheerer spots I saw on my nails earlier. Le 54 is really sheer purple with fine blue glitter and it adds a nice pearlized look to the nails in the midst of all the glitter that I really am loving.

This was my first time playing with both shades and I’m really curious about how 3 or 4 coats of Le 54 will look. I really like packing the color on with glitter shades. How about you? What’s on your nails this week?

Nutrisystem Nation: Week 1

Week 1 on Nutrisystem was a complete success. I weighed in last Monday and stepped off the scale in complete awe, I couldn’t believe the number the scale read… I lost 7.4lbs my first week on the program. I had planned on having a bit of a splurge for dinner as a reward for behaving during the week but when I saw the results, I changed my tune a bit. I didn’t want to undo all my hard work for that week. It definitely had me excited about what I could accomplish with the time I have left on Nutrisystem, which is is 3 months and 3 weeks. At first, I really questioned if I could really do this. Could I go 4 months eating packaged food? I wasn’t really sure initially but this first week on the program answered that question. I feel confident that I can do this for a few reasons.

The first is that I’m not relying solely on Nutrisystem’s food and I didn’t understand that until I received my chosen entrees and read through all the materials that came with my first delivery. I add fresh fruits, vegetables, protein, carbohydrates and fat (small amounts) to every meal. The first week my additions were mostly raw but I have started to change things up by steaming broccoli and roasting asparagus here and there. Sometimes it feels like it’s too much food but the good thing about that is I honestly am never hungry, which is a good thing because the portion size of the entries leaves a little to be desired but that’s also because we’re just use to much larger portions these days. This is also a bit of re-training for me.

The other reason I feel I can do this is because I can go out and enjoy myself with friends and family at a restaurant if I want to, it just involves making different choices. I imagined having to bring an entree with me if I went to a family dinner at my moms as I often do and that thought made me a little sad. I really enjoy food and the thought of missing out on my mom’s amazing cooking for 4 months just seems so hard! I have yet to test my resolve against mom’s cooking but I like that I can bring an entree to my mom’s house one weekend and then indulge a bit the next. Nutrisystem realizes that it is not realistic to expect that those on the program stick to their meals 100% of the time.

If you’re wondering how the food tastes, I’m happy to report that it is good and I’m enjoying it. There has only been 1 entree that I decided I would not finish, it was their Cream of Broccoli soup but it was a matter of my personal taste. I’m sure there are others who would probably enjoy that soup. I received a mix of pantry stables and frozen entrees. I have been alternating the pantry and frozen items for dinner and have liked everything I’ve tried so far. The Macaroni & Cheese with Salisbury Steak impressed me because I did not expect any flavor from this entree but it was there, as it has been in the other entrees. I had not tried any of the frozen breakfast or lunch items yet but I will get there. I’m assuming they taste better than the dry pantry items so I’m saving them for the end of the month. 😉

Jessica Simpson graced the cover of New York Magazine’s spring fashion issue released this week receiving a nod from the publication as a fashion mogul and coined the “$1 Billion Girl”. Beauty VIP of the Week: L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Towelettes

We don’t often talk about self-tanner on Product Girl. We more or less embrace our pale-ness. But I had to go and get myself a farmer’s tan while in Florida last week and it is none too cute if you’re planning on exposing your bare shoulders. Which I am planning to do this weekend with a one-shouldered dress.

To back up just a moment, before it was a farmer’s tan it was a sunburn. I scold people all the time for not using sunscreen, so I’m a little embarrassed that it happened.

Exhibit A: The farmer’s burn

It was really painful for a few days, which is enough of a reminder to never ever go without the SPF again. Regardless of my recklessness, I needed to rectify the farmer’s tan. I picked up L’Oreal’s Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Towelettes and they’ve been slowly evening out my skin tone. I’ve been using them at night because I don’t like to sit all day with the scent. They work really well without turning me orange or streaky. I’ve even been using them semi-unevenly since my main concern is to remove the white strip along my right shoulder, and it has been foolproof.

Now that I’m dabbling in the self-tanner, would love to know what everyone’s favorites are? I have to admit, being tan in the winter is exciting.

Ten or Less: Aveeno Positively Nourishing Calming Body Wash

What do Aveeno, Recyclebank and the Independent Spirit Awards have in common? This weekend, the shared thread is Product Girl! I’ll be heading to Los Angeles with a team of bloggers and Aveeno to attend the Independent Spirit Awards. We’ll be meeting with experts from Aveeno and learning more about their eco-initatives. So it’s only fitting that today’s Ten or Less focus on one of my favorite Aveeno products: Postively Nourishing Calming Body Wash.

This is one of my go-to evening body washes. I take a lot of baths in the wintertime or a hot shower before bed to warm up and relax, and this helps put me in a zen state. It contains natural ingredients ylang ylang, chamomile and lavender and smells fabulous. Truly relaxation in a bottle. A recyclable bottle at that!

The other factor in this equation is Recyclebank, a partner of Aveeno’s that works to encourage a green lifestyle and rewards you with points for doing so. I’m excited to head out west this weekend, and will provide a full recap when I return. My one wish at the Independent Spirit Awards? To see Mark Ruffalo. I adore him! He’s actually from my home town, and his family owns a hair cuttery called Ruffalo’s that I used to go to when I was a kid.

His movie “The Kids Are All Right” is a frontrunner for a few Independent Spirit Awards, so good luck to him!

New from NARS: Illuminators in Iconic Shades

I’ve been highly anticipating the launch of NARS illuminators in shades beyond Orgasm. And with the release of Illuminators in Super Orgasm, Copacabana and Laguna, NARS did not disappoint! I spent some time with the new shades last night at Nordstrom, and it was such a tease because they had the display and testers but no stock yet. In that short time, I came to the conclusion that these are all must-haves.

If you’re a glow-addict, like myself and Carla, you will really appreciate this product. They just seem to melt into your skin. Key ingredients include Polar Berries, known for their antioxidant properties; Bisabolo, obtained from Chamomile plant – a known anti-inflammatory; and Indian Frankincense, also known for its soothing and comforting properties.

While I love my NARS Multiples, I think the Illuminators are even more versatile. I’m already envisioning how I’m going to mix Laguna and Copacabana with my body moisturizer. And Super Orgasm is a beautiful peachy-gold – it’s stunning. They’ll be making their ways to stores soon, but for now you can get these on — they retail for $29.

Coveting: Sparkling Eyelids, a la Lancome Ombre Magnétique

I’m all about the blinged-out eyelid for spring, accompanied by black liquid liner along the lashline and tons of mascara. I think it’s a fresh, mod look and very easy to create. While a shimmery shadow will do, I cannot get enough of Lancome’s Ombre Magnetiques: a sparkly sensation in a pot. Literally, your eyes twinkle and catch the light with each blink of the eye.

Lancome introduced three new shades with its Ultra Lavande Collection for spring: Disco Silver, Disco Gold and, my favorite, Ultra-Lavande. These are a bit of an enigma – not quite creamy, yet not powdery. They’re best used patted on the lid — no sweeping though because there is a chance for sparkles to fly.We first saw these with Lancome’s Fall 2010 collection, so I’m happy to see their return. Bring on the bling!

Neiman Marcus Spring 2011 Beauty Awards

Neiman Marcus is holding their Spring 2011 Beauty Awards
right now and it’s a chance for you to vote on your favorite beauty products. Voting has already started and will end on Tuesday, March 8th at 8:00am CT. There are 12 different categories including tools and fixes, face makeup, fragrances, and face treatments. Each beauty product page on will also include a link to vote. By voting and filling out the enter-to-win form you will be automatically entered into a chance to win all the top picks during the Beauty Awards event.

Also, this weekend is a good time to pay Neiman Marcus a visit. Customers who purchase $100 or more in cosmetics or fragrance will receive a chic tote filled with goodies. This is a good time for me to indulge in that Le Metier de Beaute Splendid Frost Kaleidoscope I’ve been wanting. I’ve also heard Neiman’s will be the first to debut some new Kate Somerville products this weekend.

Are you stocking up during the sale? The goodie bag is very tempting!
