Give the Gift of Organization: Trish McEvoy Makeup Planner

It’s as though Trish McEvoy’s Makeup Planners were made for me and my peoples. If you happen to know any Type A women, a makeup planner would be a perfect gift idea!

The Sugarplum Makeup Planner, exclusively online at TrishMcEvoy.com, organizes nine universally flattering beauty products in a plum python planner. It includes:

Just Another Mani Monday: Essie Silken Cord

Hi everyone, happy holiday party week! Chances are, if you are attending a holiday party, it’s this week, so hence: holiday party week! In honor of this scientifically made-up week, I’m wearing the festive Essie Silken Cord from her 2010 Winter Collection. This “risque” red complements the outfit I’m planning on wearing to my company’s holiday party perfectly. But don’t be mistaken, the outfit is anything but risque. Just the nails folks, just the polish!

Silken Cord was included as part of Essie’s Winter Collection mini 4-pack, joined by another fave of mine: Masquerade Belle. With the subzero wind chills and dry air, I’ll be spending the rest of the week moisturizing the heck out of my cuticles!

What’s everyone else sporting on their nails this week? And indulge me….are you attending a holiday party?

Weekend Reads: Beauty Beat 12/11

Happy Saturday everyone! Have the malls gotten a little too crazy for you? I can say that’s affirmative for me — I just got back from doing some Christmas shopping, and I think I spent more time in traffic than I did in the store. So, let’s enjoy some beauty shopping from home and also see what the beauty gals have tried, tested and recommended for you this week.

Meet Alex Chantecaille at Best Things in Beauty and find out what’s new coming in over the next few months. The next blockbuster palette will feature sea turtles and Charlestongirl will be the hare, not the turtle, in ordering it!

We often wonder if ‘at-home’ skin care treatments really work. Kelly from Gouldylox Reviews shares with us her experience using the Personal Microderm kit and if the results are professional looking. It may leave you skipping your next trip to the dermatologist.

Holiday beauty collections are about the product and the packaging. Gaia from The Non-Blonde shows us one of her favorites of the season with the Clarins Baracco Eyeshadow Trio. This beauty is definitely worth a look!

More of the holiday beauty collections continue with Kari at Fab Over Forty. This week she shows us the lipstick from the L’Wren Scott for Lancome Holiday Collection. Is this a shade that you think is holiday-worthy?

Carla posted a contest on Product Girl this week, and if she wins you could win big too! Check out her Make Up For Ever’s Lips to Love contest and vote. If we take home the most votes, we’ll give away 10 train cases with Make Up For Ever beauty inside!

Are you a fan of Edward Bess lipsticks and glosses? Well, you can’t help but fall in love with his newest set of 3 lipstick and 3 lipgloss collections that Sabrina from The Beauty Look Book shares with us. The shades are lovely and swatches are spot on!

Debbi has some tried and true products that she’s tested recently over at DivaDebbi. She shares with us this week a foundation she loves, a mascara she likes and a shampoo and conditioner that, well, sadly disappoint.

Do you have several holiday parties to attend, but don’t want to spend a lot of money on all new clothes? Anne from BeautyXposé shows us a new affordable way to wear designer clothes to all those parties!

Amy from Café Makeup has us thinking Spring! It may be cold outside, but the new Chanel Eyeshadow Collection Côte D’Azur Promesse gives us thoughts of warm sun, the crisp, sparkling ocean and sandy beaches.

Speaking of the beach, Jane from Daly Beauty experimented with Tigi Foxy Curls Contour Cream to give her hair that beachy beautiful look. She shares with us her results and images of her gorgeous beach hair!

Wave the Magic Wand and Achieve Radiance with Guerlain's Midnight Star Collect'Or

It’s safe to say that Guerlain’s Midnight Star Collect’or Extraordinary Radiance Treatment is unlike any other primer I’ve ever tried. Or seen for that matter. In fact, it’s not really even a primer, but rather a skincare treatment for the face. Tiny capsules are housed inside what appears to be a magic wand. And I actually believe these capsules may have some magical powers.

Inside the capsule is a pearlescent gel that is intended for use all over the face to revive skin, dispel signs of fatigue and stress that build up throughout the day. In other words, this is your holiday party face in a capsule. But, it can also be used during the day (perhaps the morning after a holiday soiree!) I tried this one morning that I felt tired and washed out, and honestly, I didn’t know what to expect. But my face transformed before my eyes over the course of my makeup routine.

Beauty VIP of the Week: Laura Gellar Ethereal Balance

This week my Beauty VIP is Laura Geller’s Ethereal Balance. I’m kind of obsessed with her Balance-n-Brighten right now. It’s one of those products that I bought awhile ago but got home and it got lost somewhere in the abyss that is my stash. In fact, I still haven’t touched the box I bought because I’ve been using Ethereal Balance instead. I received this as a sample when I visited New York in May… that’s how long it took for me to give this a try. Bad, bad Carla.

What I love about this product is I can have varying amount of coverage to even out my skin and blush in one product, freeing up my makeup bag for my other must haves. It’s also really easy for me to do if I’m in a hurry, which I always am in the mornings during the week. If I want to concentrate coverage in one area, I use it with my Cargo Magic Brush otherwise I use my Becca Kabuki Brush for everyday wear. I can combine the shades together to give my skin a glow or I can use them separately. I love have my foundation and blush in one compact, it is so convenient.

The shade in this compact is slightly darker than the one I would wear in Balance-n-Brighten but it still works for me. I think Laura Geller’s shades with this product are pretty forgiving so it would still work for light to medium skin tones. Unfortunately, this only comes in one shade so darker skin tones are out of luck but hopefully that is remedied soon.

Ten or Less: Yes to Cucumbers Soothing Facial Towelettes

Yes to Cucumbers Soothing Facial Towelettes hit all the right notes. They’re nearly all natural (98.7%) hypoallergenic, paraben-free and have the most amazing fresh cucumber scent. And to top it off, they are ultra-affordable at about $6 for 30 wipes.

These towelettes can pretty much do it all, but I like them most for a pre-face wash wipe or a refresh on a clean face. They infuse the face with moisture and settle in with an unbelievably refreshingly tingle. They leave behind no film, no fuss and I can see these working on just about anyone with a face!

The travel version shown above is $2.99 for 10 wipes, and while less of a deal in terms of quantity they are perfect to tote around or travel with. I brought these on a trip to Milwaukee last week, and they were sitting in the car the whole day until I checked into a hotel. When I finally used one at night, it was such a rejuvenation because it was practically frozen! I can see myself purposefully freezing them in the summer — but for now, I’ll likely stick with room temp. :)

Disclosure: We received a sample of this product.

Ellis Faas 101: Lip Color

Ever since I discovered the Ellis Faas counter at Bergdorf Goodman earlier this year, I’ve been obsessed with the line. The concept is brilliant, the packaging is sleek and definitely unique and finally, the product itself is fantastic. I started out with a couple products and now I have at least a few pieces in each formulation Ellis Faas produces for lips, eyes and cheeks.

During the coming week, I’m going to cover the line’s products for lips, eyes and cheeks with swatches starting with lip color. I find myself reaching for Ellis Faas L207 more and more often, it is my go-to lip color right now and I receive compliments on it left and right when I wear it. Because I love it so much, I want to tell you all about as well as show you some swatches of the shades I have just in case you’re inspired to try a piece from the line… which you totally should be. :)

Ellis Faas has three formulas to choose from: Creamy, Milky and Glazed, all three are really well pigmented and long lasting. Each formula has 9 shades with the most well known shade in the Ellis Faas line, a gorgeous blood red named Ellis Red, that comes in each formula. The lip color retails for $35.

Dior Timeless Gold Nail Color

I have to be honest, Dior’s Holiday nail colors are confusing me! Seems like every retailer has their own limited edition exclusive. From what I’ve seen online, they all look gorgeous though. One of those shades is Dior’s Timeless Gold, the shade I’m rocking on my nails this week. This gold shade is different than the other golds in my stash, it is cooler than the others so I can wear it with silver and not feel like my faux metals are clashing. ;)

This nail polish is the first one I’ve used with the new wide brush, like the ones in the Sally Hansen polishes. I’m not sure why but I wasn’t a fan of these brushes the first time I tried them but this time around, I noticed it gave me a much more even application and my cuticles were definitely much cleaner. Anything that helps me give myself a cleaner looking manicure gets an A in my book.

Have a Holly, Jolly – and Glossy – Holiday

One of my favorite gifts to give to the ladies in my life are lip gloss sets. They’re functional and fun — and the choices seem endless so you’re bound to find the perfect set for pretty much everyone. Here are a few of my top picks this year!

Benefit’s Triple the Glossy Set, exclusive to Ulta, is a serious great deal. For $18, you get three full-sized Ultra Shine Lip Glosses. Isn’t that amazing? Also amazing…the formula. They have a light fruity scent (apricot-lychee to be exact) and the gloss is so cushy. I’m obsessed with the middle shade shown above…Fresh Squeezed. It reminds me of NARS Orgasm a bit.

Senna’s Lip Pics Kit is adorable. Inside are five tiny glosses, and slots to hold pictures (or other papers, cards). While I like the idea of toting photos, they’re mostly all on my iPhone, so I like to toss this in my purse and use as an organizer for lists, business cards, notes and I think I even threw a few hair ties in there! Definitely a great gift idea.

I was a happy girl when I saw this addition to Korres Lip Butter line: Lip Butter in tube, glaze form.  You can purchase them individually, but three is always better than one! If you live in a cold climate — which is practically the whole United States this week — this gift is sure to get a lot of use. These babies are moisturizing to the max.

I do love this set of Laura Mercier Mini Lip Glaces — especially the colors chosen. I have turned my mother into a Laura Mercier junkie (she loves the Tinted Moisturizer especially), so I think this would be a perfect gift for her. I like to pamper her and gift her with things she wouldn’t normally buy on her own.

Anyone else like to give the gift of gloss for the holidays? Let us know your top picks!

Disclosure: We received a sample of the Benefit Ultra Shine glosses, but I also purchased the set on my own. We also received a sample of the Senna Lip Pics Kit.
