Revlon’s Multi-Use Palette, part of the brand’s new Suede Rhapsody collection, is an interesting contraption. It’s a pocket-sized palette packed with five multi-use cream products for eyes, lips and cheeks. When I say pocket-sized, I really mean it. But I’m really liking all that Revlon crammed in here and think these cream products perform surprisingly well.
While not an exact replication, the orange cheek color reminds me of NARS Multiple Tint in Turks & Caicos. And the creme colored highlighter makes for a perfect layering partner. The red stain, labeled for lips, is also a great cheek stain. In fact, I like it better on my cheeks than I do on my lips. As for the cream eye shadows, they are fairly sheer on the lids, but held up all day long over primer and under powder eye shadow. Overall, the verdict: for $6.99, this palette is a steal!
It’s no secret that Laurie and I both love anything that highlights and gives the skin a glow so it is no surprise that we’re both crazy about Benefit’s Girl Meets Pearl. The packaging may look like a relative of their That Girl primer but this product is all luminizer. At first glance I was instantly reminded of NARS Orgasm Illuminator. I’m not sure why Moon Beam or High Beam did not come to mind but this is a rose gold shade that is just gorgeous on the skin, not a peach like Orgasm. Continue reading
OK, it’s not $10 or less but if you take the bargain of a price and divide by 4 (the number of eyeliners you get for the price), this is a fantastic deal and each is still under $10. It’s so fantastic that I couldn’t resist picking up this Smashbox Wish for the Perfect Pencils set when I stopped by Ulta this week.
The 4 pencils in the set are Onyx (black), Orchid (deep purple), Graphite (metallic slate gray) and 14K (gold). They are travel sized liners but they are very generously sized. I have been wanting to try this eyeliner for awhile now and with this price, I can try 4 shades for less than the cost of 1 full sized liner. Not only that but the wear is great! They glide on the skin with ease and after the formula sets, it does not move.
Have you tried the Smashbox Limitless Eye Liner?
We’re really enjoying fall over here at Product Girl. The cooler weather, the changing colors, the pumpkin spice lattes at Starbucks — it’s all wonderful. Holiday is on our radar, but we’re happily basking in the glory of October. But a visit to Sephora.com today reminded me why the holidays are truly the best time of the year: gift sets. Just one glance at NARS Follow the Boys Lip Gloss Set and I was smitten.
Included in the set are four deluxe-sized (half the amount of product as the full) NARS glosses:
- Moon Fleet – Clear with silver and gold flecks
- Easy Lover – Sheer hot pink
- Turkish Delight – Pink sorbet
- Sweet Revenge – Sheer pink grapefruit
I’m especially happy to see Easy Lover included — that was a favorite of mine this spring. This retails for $4o, and even though it’s a little early to be talking gifts this would make a great one.
When I was at the Nordstrom Trend Show the other week, the Burberry counter showed me a new arrival that is just the cutest thing ever. This new Burberry Lip Charm Key Chain has arrived just in time for the beauty holiday season… yes, October just began a few days ago but holiday beauty is just starting to show up at counters.
The new Lip Charm Key Chain is a Nordstrom exclusive and it retails for $85. This charm only has lip gloss in the top box of the key chain in “Nude Beige”, a slightly rosey sheer nude. If you’re a Burberry Beauty fan, this key chain is totally collectable and the lip gloss shade is gorgeous. Only way this could be better would be to have gloss in all the boxes but maybe next time.
Check your local Burberry counter for availability. It’s available in select Nordstrom stores now and will roll out to all Nordstrom Burberry counters later this month.
The highly-anticipated NARS Vintage Nail Polish Collection is coming your way this month. NARS dug deep into its vault for this collection and these polishes will only be back for a limited time. As I’m typing this, I have “The Final Countdown” stuck in my head and a vision of these polishes doing some type of encore victory lap. I haven’t gotten enough sleep this week…that’s for certain!
Here’s the color story and cinematic connection behind each shade: Continue reading
Happy Mani Monday everyone! For this week, I resurrected an old favorite – Chanel Vendetta. This is one of my favorite Chanel polishes. I love the color, the wear and pretty much everything about it. It’s a deep blue-purple that flashes more purple in the sun. Indoors, it looks navy but never black. I like that about it because sometimes dark polishes always pull black indoors.
This polish is also consistent with my mood starting this week. It’s dark, dynamic and mysterious. Sometimes you just need a polish to complement your state of mind. How about everyone in reader-land? What are you wearing on your nails this week and does it fit your mood?
Estee Lauder’s Surreal Violet Eyeshadow Palette, part of Estee’s Fall Blue Dahlia Collection, takes me back a bit…to last spring. I’m perplexed and enamored at the same time with this palette. On the one hand, it doesn’t quite feel right for fall, but on the other hand it’s a nice surprise. As you can see, the shadows span the violet spectrum — there’s a whole lot of purple going on here.
I happen to really like purple and seasons be damned, I really like this palette. The “Pure Color” formula is quality — each is smooth and long-lasting. The pearly white-lavender shade on the far left is brilliant. I find myself reaching for that even when I’m not using this palette.
Estee Lauder’s fall collection marks the first by the brand’s new creative director Tom Pecheux. I love the direction he’s taking Estee Lauder, and the proof is in the pudding. If you haven’t yet, swing by your Estee Lauder counter and take a look around. You might be surprised!
Disclosure: We received a sample of this palette
Last Saturday I attended the Nordstrom Fall Beauty Trend Show in Bellevue, Washington and had some fun checking out new looks for fall, both in fashion and in beauty. One of the most exciting aspects of the show for me is the opportunity to see and meet pros in the beauty industry. Last year I got to meet Madonna’s makeup artist and former Shu Uemura artist director Gina Brook (she’s now artistic director at Hourglass Cosmetics). Saturday’s pro was Nonie Creme, creative director for Butter London. I went out and got a Butter London mani/pedi for the occasion.
The show featured looks from Elie Tahari, Diane Von Furstenberg, Nanette Lepore, Trina Turk and Calvin Klein to name a few. For beauty, artists from Chantecaille, Laura Mercier, Armani, NARS, Bobbi Brown, Lancome, MAC, Trish McEvoy, Dior, Smashbox and Yves Saint Laurent showed us their looks for fall in addition to the latest skincare from Revive, Clarisonic, Kiehls and Philosophy. I took some pictures for you to see and you can find them below. All in all, the ladies looked gorgeous! There’s was even a suprise famous model in the show, Elina Ivanova from America’s Next Top Model cycle 11. She is a local girl after all.
Of course the other exciting part of the event is getting a quick Oxygen Peel at Philosophy and then getting my makeup done. I try to pick a different brand each time and this year I went with Trish McEvoy. I picked up her new Instant Pick Me Up Lip Shimmer, new Instant Eye Lift Concealer and the Beauty Emergency Card for Eyes. I’ll have more on these products for you soon but so far it is love with the lip shimmer and concealer. It’s not a concealer you were everywhere. Just making at V at the top of the cheek bones towards the brow bone is enough to make you look instantly refreshed.

Yesterday, I was in a meeting at work and something great — yet unexpected — happened. Someone asked me “Do you have new lashes? They are so long?” It was a thrilling moment in my day. My response, “They’re all mine — courtesy of Maybelline “The Falsies.” It actually probably went something like this…”Really…you think? Thank you! You must try this mascara! You can have these lashes too!”
I thought that the only drugstore mascara I would ever really love and repurchase was Cover Girl LashBlast, but Maybelline has caught me by surprise. The “secret sauce” if you will is a patented spoon brush with Kera-fiber formula that builds volume (8x they claim!) without clumping. Unlike other Maybelline formulas, this does not flake off and it truly gives me full and long lashes. So much so that it caught the attention of my client!
The Falsies is a fabulous “ten or less” find — I bought this at CVS on sale for about $6. Has anyone else tried this? Are you digging the spoon brush? Let us know!
