Usually I’m not into nail designs but with all the Halloween inspired nails I’ve seen around lately, I’m tempted to try it out! An easy way to play with your nails this Halloween is with Kiss Halloween Nail Kits. I thought it would be a good idea to try these out and put them on top of my manicure for the week, I didn’t feel like taking off the polish and actually wondered how these Kiss would impact my color underneath. Each kit includes 24 in 12 sizes so you have the perfect fit. They also come with press on tabs that help keep the nails on.
I played around with the Witch Nail Kit, I loved the shape of the nails and the design reminded me of a ruffian manicure. I felt a bit like Elvira with these on but I loved it, after all the nails are red… you know I love reds, right? I have not tried a press-on nail since I was in middle school so I was a little doubtful that the little tabs would keep the nails in place but they did! I guess there have been huge advancements in the world of press on nails since then. 😉
It takes a little time and pressure on each nail to really get them to stay on but once you do, they are on. I removed a few without reading the directions because I’m like that, I skip ahead sometimes. Those little mighty tabs held up and actually stripped some of the color underneath but when I soaked my nails in some warm water, the color underneath was not damaged at all.
If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to jazz up your Halloween look, take a look at these nails from Kiss next time you’re in the drugstore. There are 4 Halloween themed designs and decals available and all for much less than the cost of getting your nails done in a salon.

Speaking of Chanel, I have a new favorite mascara. For awhile, I couldn’t tear myself away from Mally’s Volumizing Mascara but during my Beauty Stylist appointment at Nordstrom last week, Kirk introduced me to Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara and it was love at first lash. 😉
I had heard good things about this mascara (or it’s other incarnations) in the past but never gave it a try because its price. When I took a look in the mirror after Kirk was done working his magic, I was truly amazed. He used this mascara in Purple (one of the four shades available) and my lashes looked amazing! They looked so feathery that I felt like a baby fawn, all I could think of was Bambi when I saw my lashes.
As for the mascara’s wear, it stands up to my 2 must haves: no clumping, good separation and it doesn’t migrate and give me raccoon eyes. Then there’s the shade… for brown eyed gals like me, this purple mascara is fantastic. It’s dark enough to remind you of black but purple enough to make your brown eyes pop and of course, that’s always a good thing.
If you’ve been to a Chanel counter recently, chances are you’ve seen this display featuring Chanel’s Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss. This is the newest gloss to enter the Chanel line-up and this one’s all about intensity and shine. And I am all about this gloss.
Chanel had me at hello with the packaging. It’s a glossy, sturdy black, similar to the Rouge Allure Laque, also promoted on this display. And the applicator is something I wish was on all glosses – it’s a flexible, pointed doe foot-esque wand – and it really makes a difference. But the best part is the gloss! It’s a blast of shine and imparts long-lasting color. No shimmer or fuss, just a beautiful shine. I will say they have more “stickiness” than most Chanel glosses but they do last for hours.
There are nine shades gracing this display, and they are all divine. I’m particularly obsessed with Insolence, a bright candy pink. I sort of wish that I didn’t love them as much as I do, because a $32 gloss obsession is an expensive one. But hey, I’m not @llglossy for nothing!
We received a sample, but I’ve also purchased this product on my own volition since!
Happy Halloween everyone! This is a favorite holiday of ours — it epitomizes fall, the best time of the year, and there’s candy and trick or treaters. I also like to dress my dog up, which on any other day makes me seem like a crazy dog lady but is totally normal on Halloween. All month long, I’ve been looking forward to this day. Pumpkins, pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin seeds and caramel apples. I love a good caramel apple! So much so that apple is the Product Girl Flavor of the Month for October. Here’s a few products we’ve been loving.
- Philosophy Bobbing for Apples Set – If you are an apple lover, this is where it’s at. Each scent — Green, Red and Caramel Apple — are spot on for the real thing. I literally take a bubble bath almost every night (I know, I’m practically asking for dry skin) and have been loving this trio. It’s a great deal too at $25.
- Slatkin & Co. Autumn Apple Candle – What’s a bubble bath like without candles? Obviously, I need to set the mood for relaxation! These Slatkin & Co. candles are my favorite because they burn evenly and smell heavenly.
- Garnier Moisture Rescue Fresh Cleansing Foam – This cleanser, which contains apple water extract, is a fast favorite for me. I love foaming cleansers but they can be drying sometimes — this isn’t, at all. Plus, for $6 you get an extraordinary amount of product and a very deep clean. And using it with the Clarisonic feels amazing!
- GO SMiLE Green Apple Toothpaste – Do you ever stray from the traditional mint toothpaste? Well, you should. Carla’s been testing GO SMiLE’s Green Apple version and is enjoying the crisp apple flavor. It’s like a surprise when you brush your teeth!
- Tarte Smooth Operator Tinted Moisturizer – Tarte’s Smooth Operator is my kind of tinted moisturizer. It’s a bit thicker but still lightweight and is incredibly moisturizing. I often bust this out once the weather turns cold because it helps soothe my skin from wind and elements. That’s the apple extract doing its job!
- Josie Maran Argan Lip Treatment – You all know how much I love Josie Maran’s Argan Oil — well I love this too! It’s got natural green apple flavors and it actually treats your lips. It’s perfect for overnight so you wake up with soft, lush lips!
There’s our apple picks — any of your own to share?
With Halloween coming up in just a few days, these China Glaze nail polishes from the Awakening collection are perfect! At around $6.50 each (and sometimes better!) these definitely fit the “Ten or Less” bill for the week. The collection consists of 3 new shades:
- Mummy May I: Vampy, wine colored purple with flecks of hot pink glitter.
- Zombie Zest: A mossy green shade with gold flecks of micro glitter.
- Ick-A-Body: A dark green base chock full of orange glitter.
If you’re a fool for glitter shades like I am, you need at least one of these shades in your life. I don’t have shades in my stash like Zombie Zest (my favorite shade in the bunch) and Ick-A-Body so I was pretty excited to see them. There are a few shades you may want to pick up as dupes for more expensive shades. Zombie Zest can fill in for SpaRitual’s Optical Illusion and Mummy May I is a great substitute for Deborah Lippmann’s Bad Romance, only Bad Romance has some chunkier glitter in it.
I’m going to pull out Zombie Zest for a Halloween mani, a little something festive to show the kiddies I hope will be trick-or-treating at my door this year. I’ve never had a kid stop by but this year I’m in a new apartment, maybe I’ll get lucky. How about you? Are you doing a Halloween inspired mani? Have you checked out this collection yet? Let us know in the comments.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and many companies show their support by donating proceeds from special edition “pink” products towards breast cancer research. Even though October is almost over, there’s still time for some pink power. Here’s a few of our favorite “pink” beauty buys for 2010.
Stila released a special palette in their travel series, Empowered in Pink. It is available at Ulta this October. For $10, you get a convertible color and four eyeshadows.
I didn’t really have expectations for MAC’s Pro Longwear Concealer. I suppose it’s fair to call me a cynic when “longwear” and “concealer” are used in the same sentence. Concealers for me are always on either side of the spectrum — too moisturizing (often crease city) or too drying (no creasing but Sahara under the eyes). MAC’s Pro Longwear has completely redefined the spectrum! It is a full-coverage, long-wearing lightweight formula that does not crease (at all!) It’s easily the most versatile concealer I have in my arsenal, and I’ve been testing this one six ways to Sunday.
My favorite way to use this is to place a small pump of concealer to the back of my hand and apply with my MAC 224 brush (any fluffy tapered brush will work). You can use your fingers, but since it is such a full coverage formula the brush lightens it up and helps avoids any denseness. The pump is finnicky and sputs out too much product, so I just use the excess to cover redness on the face, usually around my nose. It’s also the perfect concealer to layer — both over or under — I find I’m using other correctors and brighteners over it and getting better results because it doesn’t crease!
I think this is a fabulous concealer at an equally fabulous price point — $16.50. Let us know if you’ve tried this and what you thought as well!
NARS Holiday 2010 Collection has landed. It’s a surprising mix of shades that all seem to evoke a very festive mood. Here’s the official scoop:
