New! Stila Natural Beauty Eyeshadow Palette

Ulta now has the exclusive Stila Natural Beauty Eyeshadow palette online and in stores. This new 13-shadow palette is only $22 and perfect for the gal who’s all about the neutrals. I had my hands on this yesterday and really liked it, there’s a great mix of mattes and shimmers in this palette. There are also a few shades in this palette that can help you go above and beyond the everyday neutral eye… I’m looking at you, shimmering peach in the top left corner.

It was hard to walk away from this palette but I managed to do it having just moved in to a new apartment replaced my need for makeup with home furnishings instead… but I’m hoping one of you will scoop it up. :)

Inside the Bright Pink Box: Birchbox September 2010

A few weeks ago, we let you know about a new “beauty of the month” club called Birchbox. As a huge fan of beauty samples and getting stuff in the mail, I naturally signed up immediately. And last week following the Labor Day holiday, a bright pink box arrived on my doorstep. Technically, it arrived in my mailbox — which is a great testament to Birchbox’s use of materials. It’s about the size of a book and not too bulky or wasteful. It was a real treat to open as well. And as for the contents, I was pleased.

There were five samples in total:

  • Cargo Bronzer (medium shade)
  • Marc Jacobs Lola
  • NARS Makeup Primer – SPF 20
  • Tatcha Blotting Papers
  • The Face Shop Collagen Mask Sheet

My take: this is a nice set of samples that definitely makes me look forward to the next box. Do I think this is worth $10 a month? Yes, I do. These may be akin to the freebies you can get at Sephora for every 100 points, but one sample is the equivalent of $100 in most instances. Also, Birchbox has built in a loyalty program where you can acquire points and earn credits to use towards a purchase.

Did any Product Girl readers sign up for this as well? Share your thoughts if you did, would love to hear your take!

Currently Loving: MAC Superslick Liquid Liner, it's Fabulous

MAC’s Fabulous Felines collection features the most fabulous liquid liner I’ve ever encountered. MAC’s Superslick Liquid Eyeliner is truly the cat’s meow. I love eyeliner, but for the most part am partial to gel liners or creamy pencils. I like the look of liquid but I always seem to mess it up upon application and/or get gook in my eyelashes rendering them spidery all day. But these Superslicks are a game changer!

It features a flexible flocked “magic” tip applicator that gives you complete control. Give the tube a good shake before applying, and you’re good to go. It’s incredibly long-wearing, as in, I couldn’t smudge this if I tried. I experienced no flaking and no wear and tear over an 8-hour period. The colors are intense and beautiful, and they play well with other liners. I’ve been using Pure Snow (bright yellow gold) layered over an espresso gel liner and it’s a fun pop of glitz.

My favorites? Smoky Noir (dark blue-violet), Treat Me Nice (hybrid emerald/olive green) and On the Hunt (true black). Have you given these a try yet? You must if you like liquid liner! And you must if you’re scared of liquid liner!

Just Another Mani Monday: Zoya Nail Polish in Stacy

This week the color on my nails is Zoya’s Stacy from the Wonderful collection. The collection is the all creme counterpart to Zoya’s Wicked collection. Being the creme gal that I am (with the exception of super chunky glitters), naturally I am more comfortable with this collection. I was worn between Kelly and this shade for the week. Stacy won out because she’s so vampy and rich like a glass of Merlot. There’s something about this shade that makes me smile and feel so glam when I look down at my nails… even though they are in need of some professional assistance.

If you love creme shades then the rest of the Zoya Wonderful collection definitely deserves some of your attention. If nothing else, you’ll get to meet Kelly. Kelly is a slate blue gray shade, a unique shade with all the greige going on out there. Should we call it “bleige”? That doesn’t sound right but on the nail, it’s all kinds of right. :)

Disclosure: We received samples of this collection for consideration.

New! Chanel SoHo Story Makeup Collection

If there were ever a year for Chanel makeup, 2010 is shaping up to be the one. We were just saying the other day how it’s been one fantastic release after another. Would everyone agree? And here we have yet one more, the Chanel Soho Story Collection, launching in celebration of the re-opening of the Chanel boutique in the SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan.

The “story” behind the collection, according to Chanel’s Global Creative Director of Makeup Peter Phillips, is a study in extreme contrasts, partnering feminine pinks and roses with strong, industrial metallics. There’s a definite Pop Art influence reflected in the collection’s signature product, the SoHo de Chanel Highlighting and Blush ($65), and it really is a standout.

The collection also includes: Continue reading

Beauty VIP of the Week: Philosophy Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash

Do you ever come across a product that just changes your life? OK, as dramatic as that sounds, that’s sort of how I feel about this week’s Beauty VIP: Philosophy’s The Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash. I recently started using this and within days was reaping some fantastic rewards. You know, like smooth, even skin.

I use this only in the morning, as the last step before I get out of the shower. Never did I realize that “exfoliating” every day was just what I needed to get amazing skin texture. I say “exfoliating” because it’s so gentle. It resurfaces the skin without stripping it of moisture. This is best used in the morning because at night we shed old skin and all those lotions and potions work their magic! Each morning, I literally am putting my best face forward.
