If you’re not following Becca Cosmetics on Twitter, you’re really missing out! Last week the brand tweeted a few sneak peeks into their Prairie Moon fall 2010 collection. The collection features the new limited edition Prairie Moon Palette, new Eye Tint in Pewter, new Beach Tint in Fig and Sheer Tint Lip Colour in Oleysa.
Born under a new moon and windswept, grassy plains, the mysterious new collection from BECCA evokes the spirit of the wild-at-heart.Dusty rose cheeks and caramel lips are eclipsed by stormy eyes, darkened with tones of the moonlight prairie.
Just by these images alone, I’m on board. This is all the information I have right now but it looks like there’s a little gray and perhaps some khaki green in there, shades that I love working with in the fall… and the Beach Tint, I can’t get enough of those. Any time there is a new shade, I go into “gotta have it” mode.
p.s. You can get 25% off at Becca right now, check out Daily Candy for more info.
Lorac’s new Evening Out Complexion Kit is more than just a clever play on words. It’s actually quite genius. Sure, the concealer duo and powders have been done before but this is product innovation here. Trust me! It’s more than just concealer, corrector and setting powder. It’s actually powder foundation and it’s divine. That powder is so finely milled and silky that I was in a major state of disbelief. Not that Lorac doesn’t make quality products, but this powder really took me by surprise.
At that point I was sold, but if the product itself hadn’t done it, the packaging may have. It’s that deep sturdy gunmetal we’ve seen in other Lorac palettes and it gives a very luxurious feel to the Evening Out Kit. I found a good match in “Light,” but some may find it tricky to get a perfect shade. It’s certainly worth a try though ladies, this is a star kit.
This week’s mani features Merino Cool from Essie’s Fall 2010 collection. It’s a familiar color in the greige spectrum, but it doesn’t mean I like it any less. The purple undertones are strong in this shade and it’s a perfect fall color. In fact, every color in Essie’s Fall Collection is seasonally on par. It’s full of beautiful murky cremes, a bold red and rich coffee brown. In a word: cozy.
Essie drew inspiration from the fall runways, which were a mix of traditional glamour, chic urban warriors and eclectic color combinations dominated by a posh palette of decadent, velvet textures and reflective, metallic embellishments. Each shade in Essie’s fall collection is the perfect complement to the season’s trends.
The collection is expected to land beginning September 1, but it’s starting to pop up already. This could be one of those collections that I purchase every color. To start, I picked up the mini sampler from Ulta this weekend (hence the tiny bottle). In addition to Merino Cool, it includes Sew Psyched, Limited Addiction and Little Brown Dress.
Our friends at Mario Badescu offered to write a post for us on skincare so how could we resist? We asked them to share their tips for summer skincare to share with you.
Beach days, camping trips and pool parties do not have to equal premature aging and painful sunburn. Here’s a list of simple dos and don’ts to help protect your skin from the damaging rays of the sun.
- Do – Buy the right sunscreen
Buy a sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays are the culprit behind that damage that causes skin to age prematurely while UVB rays cause sun burn. Both are linked to elevating skin cancer risk.
- Do – Properly apply sunscreen
The best way to apply sunscreen is to do so at home 30 minutes before you are exposed to the sun and before you put your clothes on. Lots of people get burned right where the skin meets the swim suit because when they were applying they didn’t want to get sunscreen on their suit. Also don’t forget the small bits, ears, feet, neck and any exposed areas of the scalp need protection just as much as arms and legs.
Try Mario Badescu’s Body Sun Block (SPF-30) for your body and Suncare (SPF-30) for your face.
A general rule is to reapply every 2 hours and/or after swimming. If you tend to burn quickly you may need to reapply more frequently.
- Don’t – Use Retin-A, wax or exfoliate when spending time in the sun
All of these things can make the skin more sensitive to the sun. If you are using Retin-A consult with your doctor to find out how to protect yourself in the sun while using this product. Have your waxing done a few days before sun exposure to avoid sensitivity. Types of exfoliation to avoid include scrubs, products with glycolic and alpha hydroxy acids and any kind of peel.
Some people hit the tanning beds before a vacation in the hopes that having a tan before their sun exposure will enable them to avoid burning. Anytime the skin darkens or burns as a result to sun exposure there is damage to the skin. The best thing to do is to avoid tanning completely.

Jo Malone introduced a new scent – English Pear & Freesia – inspired by a walk in the orchard. Every note sounds divine!

Next time you’re wandering through the aisles at Ulta, go to the Smashbox display and check out the Smashbox Luscious Lips. When I saw it, I caved immediately, mainly due to the Doubletake Lipcolor in Guava in the set. I’m a sucker for a chunky lip pencil and I already had a few of these in my stash. This trio also includes includes Reflection High Shine Lipgloss and Limitless Long Wearing lipgloss with SPF 15 in Everlasting. For $25, I couldn’t pass this up.
If you’re looking for a lip color to stand out in a crowded makeup bag, look no further than Chanel’s Rouge Allure Laque. This luxe beauty is stunning in every way – from the packaging to the formula to the color and the familiar rosey scent. With yet another week of ridiculously high heat and humidity, I found myself wearing minimal makeup and instead brightening up my face with the most beautiful rosey pink lip color–Chanel Rouge Allure Laque in Ming, this week’s Beauty VIP.
I literally wore Ming every day this week and just can’t get enough. I have an excessive amount of lip products, but this one is a cut above and always stands out. I like to call it an LBD for the lips – it’s your savior when you don’t know what to wear and always looks great.

I’m a very results-oriented person. Otherwise known as impatient. Perhaps a little high-strung. And definitely difficult to please. So in testing the Clarisonic Opal, I was expecting big things…right from the start. I had confidence in the product because I am crazy in love with the Clarisonic (my girl Clare!), but the cynic in me was scoffing a bit at the $245 price tag for Opal and her $100 refills.
Before I reveal my opinion, let me tell you more about Opal. We know about sonic cleansing technology from the Clarisonic, but Opal uses sonic infusion technology to gently infuse anti-aging sea serum into the epidermis. The serum, filled with marine extracts and botanicals, was designed with sonic infusion technology in mind. I encourage you to read up on it if knowing the science is important to you. I found it very interesting. It’s always a good idea to know what you’re infusing into the most delicate area of your face!
Clinical studies revealed many benefits:
- An immediate reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles – results last for hours and build over time
- Younger looking skin
- Skin appears refreshed and energized, brighter and healthier
- Improved skin texture and noticeably firmer skin
- Increased skin hydration
Now I can’t speak to every benefit here as I don’t have wrinkles around the eyes, but I think the Opal delivers on all counts. The very first time I used it I noticed that the area around my eye was visibly brighter. I even tested it on my husband, who has a line or two. He looked brighter too, but alas, I’m not sharing the Opal with him.
Dare I say this product is a bit addictive? While Clarisonic did furnish us with a sample, I know at some time I’ll have to purchase new dispensers (each pack comes with two). I love the part of my day that I use this, it’s such a recharge. Almost like a jolt of caffeine. I use it in the evening, on a clean face, but you can use the Opal with makeup on at any time of the day. It’s not intended to be directly used under the eye, more or less around the bone that frames your sockets and around the eye contour eye. Trust me when I say you’ll know when you’ve gotten too close to the undereye area.
Clearly, this is another huge win for Clarisonic. I think that women with mature skin should consider using the Opal – it’s like a visit to the dermatologist, just with no fillers. Those at a younger age shouldn’t write this off though. I think there are many benefits beyond reducing wrinkles, but it’s definitely a splurge.
Let us know if you have any Opal questions, happy to answer them!
To me, Julia Roberts is one of the most stunning women in the world, more beautiful than Angelina Jolie and in my opinion, a much better actress. I’ll see anything that Julia is in. When Pretty Woman came out, I watched my VHS tape so many times that the VCR broke with the tape inside…. never-mind that it was a completely inappropriate movie for a girl my age at the time.
Tuesday night Julia’s Eat, Pray, Love movie premiered and she looked gorgeous. Did she not? Ever since she signed on with Lancome, she just seems to have this glow about her. For the event, celebrity makeup artist Genevieve Herr created a chic and modern look that played up Julia’s light brown eyes and her sleek black ensemble.
For a natural complexion, Genevieve used the new Teint Miracle Foundation, an amazing radiance-boosting foundation launching next month, Laura Mercier Secret Concealer and Secret Brightening Powder followed by a cream blush in plum on the apples of the cheeks. She wanted to give Julia soft, smoky eyes with a mix of blacks and plums. To achieve this, she first applied Le Crayon Khôl in Black Ebony to line the eyes and then blended shadows from our new fall French Coquettes collection called the French Touch Color Design Quad. Her lashes were topped with Définicils Precious Cells Mascara in Black for a full, natural lash. She finished the look with a neutral lip using Le Lipstique Lip Liner in Sheer Natural, Color Design Lipstick in Love It! and a touch of Juicy Tubes in Spring Fling for the perfect photo-ready pout.
Because I love Julia so much, I will most likely see the movie on Friday… how about you?
