Splurge vs. Steal: Dior Creme Abricot & Sally Hansen Cuticle Massage

My cuticles are a constant source of annoyance. I really have to be diligent about cuticle care or my hands end up looking rough and ragged. One easy way to keep cuticles soft is to use a cuticle cream. I’m partial to Dior’s Crème Abricot Fortifying Cream For Nails. It’s got a light apricot smell and it really works wonders on hangnails. I slather this around my nail bed at night and it works its magic by morning. It’s definitely a splurge though at $23.

A more wallet-friendly alternative at $5 is Sally Hansen’s Cuticle Massage Cream. It also contains apricot oil and does a decent job at conditioning cuticles. The formula isn’t as luxe and for me it takes longer to absorb, but it is a worthy steal.

How do you take care of your cuticles – any miracle creams to share? Let us know!

Relief for Thirsty Skin: Bobbi Brown Hydrating Skin Tonic

Bobbi Brown introduced a new Hydrating Skin Care line this week and it is like happy hour for the face! Each item in the five-piece collection is formulated with an enriched mineral water blend to “hydrate, balance and revive the skin.” The item that I need immediately is the Hydrating Face Tonic. It’s a toner in the sense in that you use it immediately after cleansing before applying any moisturizer or other treatments. But what makes this different from other toners is the intense hydration it will give you.

It contains cucumber extract, chamomile, licorice, aloe leaf and lavender to soothe and soften skin, as well as vitamin B5 to soften and condition the skin.  And at $26, the Hydrating Face Tonic is $10 less than my current thirst-quencher. My skin is ready for a drink!

Just Another Mani Monday: Butter LONDON All Hail McQueen

I’m in love with my nail color this week — Butter LONDON’s All Hail McQueen. It’s a gorgeous nude, with a beige base and silver sparkles that really lights up in the sun. Butter London Creative Director Nonie Creme designed this shade to pay homage to designer Alexander McQueen and it’s truly beautiful. Aside from the gorgeous color, I’m also a huge fan of this formula. I applied two coats and a layer of Seche Vite to lock it all in.

In other exciting news, Ulta is now carrying Butter LONDON. This is so beyond thrilling to me since the brand previously had limited distribution. Carla’s seriously spoiled in Seattle with easy access to these polishes. If you haven’t tried any Butter LONDON before, I recommend All Hail McQueen.

What are you wearing on your nails this Mani Monday?

Beauty VIP of the Week: Caudalie Grape Water

I meant to post this on Friday but after moving this weekend and being hacked (twice!), last week’s Beauty VIP of the Week is being posted today. :)

After spending practically an entire weekend in the pool and in the sun without proper SPF, guess what happened to me weekend before last? I got sunburned… I didn’t follow all of tips from Mario Badescu’s Do’s and Don’ts but I followed some of them. This is how red I got. Upon seeing this tweet, Caudalie (follow them on Twitter) graciously offered to send me a bottle of their Grape Water to soothe my skin. I’m so glad they did because now I’m kind of obsessed with it.

Caudalie Grape Water is plant based, the water is extracted from grapes during harvest and it moisturizes and tones skin with each spritz. It has that signature Caudalie scent reminiscent of brown sugar and it’s very calming and soothing on the skin. I can almost feel my face relax and say “ahhh” every time I use it. It is different from their Beauty Elixir as it does not contain oils and extracts. You don’t need to pat it dry, just spray it on and let it sink in.

You have to love Twitter, if I didn’t tweet about my sunburn, I would have never tried this product.

Coming Soon: Les Khakis De Chanel Nail Collection

Big news, Chanel fans. To celebrate Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out on September 10 during New York Fashion Week, Chanel is releasing its newest nail collection sensation: Les Khakis De Chanel. Shown above from left to right, the collection includes: Khaki Rose, Khaki Vert and Khaki Brun.  If I’m looking in my crystal ball, Khaki Vert is going to be the new “it” shade. It almost reminds me of “Sew Psyched” from Essie Fall. I’m happy to see a new muted neutral enter the spectrum. Perhaps this green-beige hybrid will be called “greenge.”

Any of these shades calling out to you? How about after seeing these swatches? If you’re me, and all three are, take careful note: each retails for $25.

Ten or Less Thursday: E.L.F. Studio Powder Brush

Of my vast collection of brushes, one of my favorites is easily E.L.F.’s Studio Powder Brush. It even surpasses some of my beloved MAC and Bobbi Brown face brushes. The bristles are soft and gentle but so incredibly dense that it is the ultimate powder brush. It never sheds and holds it form perfectly.  It’s like a kabuki but with a flat top. My favorite use for this brush is to apply MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural. It helps make it “one” with my skin. It’s also good at blending out other face powders. And the icing on the cake? It costs $3. It’s cheaper than Carla’s daily latte fix! You can find the E.L.F’s Studio Brushes at Target or online.

Better Together: NARS Turks & Caicos Multiple Tint and Albatross Highlighter

NARS Multiple Tints were a huge hit this summer — we loved these juicy popsicles! Especially Turks & Caicos – the orange in the tube that transforms to a lovely coral glow on the skin. And just when I thought I couldn’t love this product anymore, I discovered a tip from Alex at the Nordstrom Chicago  NARS counter. He told me to lightly layer on NARS Albatross Highlighting Powder over Turks & Caicos for a serious glow. I never knew such radiance until that moment. And what kind of person would I be if I didn’t in share this secret with all of you? If you have both of these products, I implore you to try this combination! And if you don’t, well – you should :)
