A Day at the Beach, Product Girl Style

If there’s one thing I am determined to do over the 4th of July weekend it is to get some sun. I’ll be visiting my parents in Wisconsin, and I plan on going to the beach. Naturally, this involves lots of sunscreen. Both Carla and I are in the pale category, and while I don’t burn easily, I am careful to protect my skin. I’m actually still affected from that one time in college I went snowboarding in California and got the worst sunburn of my life on my face. My nose has never been the same. Seriously. My nose could get sunburnt from my office lamp.

So in addition to the SPF, here’s a day at the beach, Product Girl style.

When I know I’m going to be swimming or be active at the beach, I purposefully don’t wear much makeup. But I still need something to help even out my skin tone. Urban Decay Urban Defense Tinted Moisturizer is perfect to apply over my sunscreen. It has SPF 20,  but I recommend more if you’re exposed to the sun (of course!) It’s light coverage and gives me that feeling of being polished without really wearing makeup.

My face is shielded from the sun 99.9 percent of the time, so it’s not exactly bursting with color. Normally I would just go without bronzer, but Tarte Cosmetics introduced my favorite bronzer, Park Ave Princess, in a matte, waterproof version. And it truly is waterproof – check out Gouldylox’s Review for proof. Score! Now I can be visibly bronzed while secretly pale underneath at the beach.

I don’t have freckles on my face or body, but I have several lip freckles and they drive me totally nuts. The sun tends to make them darker so I usually layer all sorts of balms on them. But Bobbi Brown Treatment Lip Shine SPF 15 is a fresh alternative! It imparts color (quite a bit!), shine and sun protection. They’re lovely.

I’ve been using Garnier’s Triple Nutrition Nutrient Spray for about a few weeks now and I’m obsessed! It’s a blend of olive, avocado and shea oils and can be used on dry or damp hair. It’s truly weightless and I can really tell the difference when I use it. I use it about halfway through my blow dry in the morning and my hair feels so silky the rest of the day. It’s perfect for the beach to help combat dryness.

I usually carry around a small soft cooler with me to keep my beverages cold. And this time, I’ll also be storing my Bath & Body Works Cooling Mist in Deep Aqua. It is so refreshing, especially when its ice cold. It contains aloe and is an overall great blast of hydration. Plus, it smells fantastic and let’s be honest, sweat happens at the beach.

So those are the products I’m toting around for a day at the beach. What about you, any must-haves? Let us know! And we also wish you a safe and happy 4th of July holiday!

CND Shellac Nail Treatment

As I mentioned, last week I had the pleasure of receiving the new CND Shellac Nail treatment at the Clarisonic Sonic Chatter blog launch party. A little over a week later, Tutti Frutti (the color you see below) and I are still going strong.

I have to say, I have really put this manicure through the ringer. With all the packing, moving and cleaning I have done lately after moving,  I expected at least some  wear (and maybe a chip or two) on my nails but Shellac is holding up its end of the bargain beautifully.

At first glance, Shellac looks like any other nail polish but the key to this product is the UV light that the polish cures under in between each coat of the base, color and top coat. Once the timer has gone off for the UV light after your top coat has been applied, you no longer have to careful with your nails. You can dig through your pockets or even a bag full of nails! Ok, maybe not literally a bag of nails but you get the idea, right? I was completely in awe that I just had my nails done and could search for my car keys in my bag without a single smudge or nic on my nail color. That alone made me want to kneel and praise at the altar of CND.

Over a week later and the color on my tips is looking just as good and glossy as the day it was applied, this photo here was taken yesterday. Don’t they look good? You know how sometimes you can almost “color” with your nails? I do this a lot because the day job consists of handling lots and lots of paper, so inevitably the tips of my nails tend to do a little coloring. With Shellac, this accidental coloring is a thing of the past, the color is not affected at all. This stuff seems almost indestructible!

The only thing that would keep me away from Shellac is its price. It is definitely the kind of treatment I would splurge on just for fun or before a vacation to ensure flawless nails but my wallet could not handle it every 2 weeks. That’s just me though… My aunt on the other hand, loves the idea of nail polish that lasts so much that she’s on the brink of booking herself an appointment. For her, nail polish does not last more than a day on her nails so she doesn’t mind the price. If that’s the boat you’re in or price simply isn’t an issue, Shellac is definitely the way to go.

With said, I’m already planning a return trip to Spa Scotta to get CND Shellac in Wildfire on my nails once they are a little longer. For now I’m wondering just how long I can stretch out this manicure, I’ll be sure to let you all know on Twitter just how long that is. :)

New! Urban Decay Naked Palette

Urban Decay is pulling out all the stops this fall. The Urban Decay Naked Palette is what dreams are made of! This literally has everything I could ever want in a neutral palette. The Naked Palette by the numbers:  $44, 12 full-size eye shadows + 1 mini Primer Potion + 2 24/7 Glide-On Pencils = one fantastic deal!

I didn’t quite act fast enough though. It launched Tuesday on UrbanDecay.com and it’s already sold out. But have no fear, it will be back (permanently we think) and according to the Sephora blog, it’ll be available online July 8. Hopefully some of  you were able to snatch this up yesterday. Let us know!
