New! Dior Fall Collection 2010

The new Dior fall color collection hit counters this month and I am in love. Admittedly, it’s not hard for me to fall in love with a makeup collection but with this one’s shades of mauve and deep purples (shades that make us brown eyed girls eyes pop!) has my attention. This fall collection is about gorgeous smokey eyes and full lashes with berry tones on the lips. “Dior women are not shy, they’re modern and daring,” says John Galliano.

This Dior 2-Colour Logomania Collector’s Edition palette is the shinning star of the collection. This would make a mean smokey eye with amped up shimmer! You can get a feel for a look with this by checking out the promo.

Dior has two eyeshadow quints available for fall, shown above is Misty Mauve. My eye aren’t quite seeing the mauve part of it, rather a beautiful mix of neutrals and an edgy purple. I like what I see though! This is available everywhere but Sephora for $58.00.

Next we have a 5-Colour Designer Eyeshadow in Pink Design. It’s a blend of satiny, shimmery and matte shades. This doesn’t quite have the broader appeal that Misty Mauve has, but those who pull of pinks well will be quite pleased with this.

For nails, the collection features 2 shades: Black Sequins and Cherry Blossom. While Black Sequins is a re-promote from 2008’s holiday collection (did you run out and get it then? I did), Cherry Blossom is a new shade and is pictured above in the beauty shot. You can find swatches of Cherry Blossom on Temptalia and Black Sequins on Steph’s Closet.

There’s also a ton of new lip products available, shown above are Dior Addict Lipcolor in Technicolor Red and Spectacular Mauve. Can you guess which one I’m loving? 🙂  Dior’s also giving us five shades of Dior Serum de Rouge and Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss in Tailored Mauve, which you can see on the model’s lips. It’s actually a pretty fantastic color and is selling out quickly. Laurie informed me that her Nordstrom sold out of it the first weekend they had it in.

Fill 'Em In For a Good Cause: IT Cosmetics Brow Power

When it comes to brow filler, I’m pretty simplistic. I don’t travel a ton, but I travel enough to really appreciate having a brow filler and groomer all-in-one to easily grab on-the-go. IT Cosmetics Brow Power™ Universal Eyebrow Pencil is one such product as it comes with an attached spoolie. And I’ll say, IT’s brow pencil is special for quite a few reasons. One that really stood out to me is that for each one sold, IT Cosmetics donates another to the American Cancer Society’s Look Good, Feel Better program which helps women face the effects of cancer with confidence.

This product also features a universal shade that transforms to all brow hair colors and I’d say that’s likely accurate. I’m a believer in universal after I tested the Dior pencil on a ginger. It just sort of melds into your skin. I really like it for summer as it doesn’t budge at all and feels more seamless than a powder. It also contains a blend of ingredients to restore hair follicle health and anti-aging ingredients and vitamins. Hmmm….is this why my brows are growing back so quickly?! Potentially, but they look great so no complaints here.

Here’s a closer look at the pencil’s tip – it’s oval-shaped. It is pretty unique and is intended to create a more natural fill. The only downside I’ve experienced with the brush is the spoolie. It does its job but is not as firm as I’d like. I’m all about the brow coiff! Also, fun fact about IT Cosmetics that Michelle from All Lacquered Up clued me into. Does anyone watch Big Brother? It’s a summer staple for me — and the founder of IT, Jamie Kerns, was on the first season of the show. I watched that season, but it was 10 years ago so I didn’t make the connection.

You can find IT Cosmetics online and also on

Smashbox Masquerade Fall 2010 Color Collection

Are you getting excited for Fall yet? With all the Fall collections we are seeing being released right now, I definitely am. I can’t wait to see the leaves changing colors, break out some sweaters, drink Starbucks Pumpkin Spice lattes and of course wear some darker, richer colors. The Smashbox Masquerade collection has just the colors I am looking for and I’m dying to check it out in person.

Masquerade Eye Shadow Palette ($35)
This palette looks like it could just the palette I need for Fall. It is arranged horizontally in trios so you can wear the three coordinating shades together or however you like. Shades in this palette include soft matte peach, shimmering black plum, matte taupe, metallic khaki, shimmering gold, bronze, metallic cabernet, shimmering navy and a matte bone.

Masquerade Baked Fusion Soft Light Palette ($32)
I’ve always wanted to try a Fusion Soft Light palette but have never made the leap, I might have to do this time.  This baked bronzing palette features shades of champagne, soft gold and rose gold that can be used on their own or swirled together for gorgeous glowing skin.

Masquerade Creamy Cheek Color & Brush ($29)
This is the product I am most excited about from this collection. This product has creamy cheek color on one end and then a blending brush on the other end. Is it a creamy matte color or does it have some shimmer to it? I’m definitely going to find out.

Masquerade Lip Enhancing Gloss ($19)
This season’s shades are Reveal (golden nude) and Disguise (golden pink). These glosses are said to be nourishing and moisturizing, have you tried them?

Masquerade Liquid Liner & Lash Overlay ($19)
Finally, these new liquid liners serve more than one purpose. You can line your eyes with these Teal and Bronze shades but you can also give your lashes a bit of a kick. You can use the rod to also sweep color on top of your lashes. Mascara and liners usually are not in my go-to category but I’m curious to see how this works. How about you?

The Masquerade collection is available online now at Anything here tempting you? Tell us about it in the comments.

New! Lancome French Coquettes Fall 2010 Collection

Lancome’s Fall 2010 Collection, French Coquettes, is all about French glamour and features a palette of deep plums, shimmering charcoals and sophisticated nudes. They’ve outdone themselves with the campaign images featuring Lancôme spokesmodels Daria Werbowy and Elettra Wiedemann. It actually makes me want to run out and buy everything just so I can create that look (Daria especially, on left.) French Coquettes features several star products, so Lancome fans are in for a treat.

First we have a gorgeous multi-color powder compact, La Rose Deco, that really tugs at my rose-obsessed heart strings. Isn’t it beautiful? The shimmer is overspray, but there is a visible rose pattern and the color beneath is a lovely mix of rose and pink.

Perhaps the most coveted item is the Ombre Magnétique, a gel-like shimmery eye shadow and the key to the looks seen on Daria and Elettra. Shown above is the shade Urban Silver, but we’ll also see two others: Cherry Chérie and Black Macadam. This won’t be available until August 15 and I’m dying to see what this looks like on my lids. I do believe counters are taking pre-orders and have the displays out. Go check it!

Lancome also released a new Color Design Quad in French Touch. I’m digging the special packaging, but I’m not sure if the colors are unique enough for $42. Honestly, I’m just a little hung up on the Ombre Magnétique!

You’ll also find a trio of mini polishes in Kissed by Paris. Pretty and chic!

You can see the collection in full online at Lancome. My advice? Get on the Obmre Magnétique. I think this is one of those products that you’ll kick yourself for missing out on. I know I’ve been burned many times in that game.

Summer Beauty Essentials: Meltproof, Budgeproof, Smudgeproof

This summer has been one for the record books. It has been so insanely hot and humid, making our beauty routine that much more challenging.  Quite frankly, I’m ready for cooler weather. Carla has been sitting cool and calm in Seattle where the weather is quite mild, but even she had a moment when it (gasp!) got in the high 80s. It’s bad when that sounds refreshing, right?!  To help get us through the dog days of summer, we’ve both been relying on products that meet the “Meltproof, Budgeproof, Smudgeproof” requirement.

I’ve been religiously wearing Lancome Teint Idole Fresh Wear for about six weeks now.  To say I’m impressed with this product is an understatement. The promise of 18-hour wear and a flawless complexion lured me in, and it lived up to its end of the bargain. The consistency is more foundation like than it is a tinted moisturizer – it’s a very thin and water-based so you need to give it a good shake before use. A little bit will cover your whole face and somehow it dries matte but doesn’t look matte. It takes on summer heat and humidity like a pro.

Bobbi Brown’s All Over Bronzing Gel is a year-on-year favorite for me. It’s very natural looking and isn’t a self tanner so it comes off when you want it to. It is almost like a bronzing stain, so I apply one section of the face at a time — my cheeks, along the jawline, a dab on the chin and anywhere else that I want a kiss of the sun. It’s pretty multipurpose, so you could even mix it in with your moisturizer and bronze up your legs! This on top of a little TM makes me feel so put together and on really disgusting days, it’s all I’ll wear to give my skin some color.

NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base is unlike other eyeshadow primers. Carla and I are both really loving this. It’s white in color but goes on clear, and has a tacky, gel-like feeling that dries instantly on the eyelid. It’s the perfect base for any product – powder or cream. And my gosh, does it hold your eyeshadows in place. I put a little along my lower lashline to help hold liners and shadows and it works like a charm. The only downside is the price – it’s $24 for .26 oz.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect to like Tarte MultiplEYE Natural Lash Enhancing Waterproof Mascara as much as I do. But it probably ranks as one of the best waterproof mascara I’ve  tried, and it can easily take on other beloved non-waterproof mascaras of mine. The reason I love it is two-fold. First, it gives me long, voluminous lashes that are perfectly separated. And two, because it is so easy to remove and it is nuturing to the lashes. The first time I removed it, I expected it to be flake and be difficult. But that didn’t happen – in fact, it just sort of glided off onto my cotton ball and my lashes felt conditioned. Plus, my mascara stays put in this heat. I’m hooked!

What’s your go-to for meltproof, smudgeproof, budgeproof makeup? Let us know!

We received a sample of the Tarte MultiplEYE naturally lash enhancing mascara.

January Jones at Mad Men Season 4 Premiere

Last night season 4 of Mad Men premiered (did you watch last night? I love how dramatic Sally Draper is) in New York City and makeup artist Fabiola used NARS Cosmetics on January Jones for the event. A new product was a key part of the look, their upcoming Pure Matte Lipstick. Here’s what Fabiola used on Miss Jones:

  • Bangkok Pure Matte Lipstick (for now, try Dolce Vita Velvet Matte Lip Pencil)
  • Pro-Prime Skin Smoothing Face Prep and Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base
  • Brousse Duo Eyeshadow and Eurydice Duo Eyeshadow
  • Douceur Blush

The inspiration for the look was “Catherine Deneuve” – strong eyes and a simple, matte lip. January loved Pure Matte so much that she kept it!

I absolutely adore matte lipsticks and am excited to see the shades NARS will be releasing with this new product. We’ll be sharing more details on this new formula once it is available. For now, we know Pure Matte will be available September 1st at Saks Fifth Avenue. All other products used in the look are currently available at

Wanting: Kooba for Laura Mercier Color Palette Wallet

I admit, I have a thing for handbags… but I can’t always afford what I want. When I was in high school, I’d buy my bags at TJ Maxx or Marshalls and back then, spending $30 or $40 on a bag was a lot! Now my handbags are more expensive but I only buy them when I spot a good sale!

For example, I just got this Botkier Brooklyn Leather Hobo from Gilt Groupe. I’ve been coveting Botkier for a long time so I was excited to get one. There’s another brand I’ve been coveting for awhile: Kooba. I can’t bring myself to spend more than $200 on a bag right now but when I do, it will be a Kooba. For now, I’ll be content with this.

Kooba and Laura Mercier joined forces to introduce this new Laura Mercier Color Palette housed in a stylish Kooba clutch that has room for a few of your cards and your makeup! Imagine the curious looks you’d get if you pulled this out of your bag and people saw it carries your makeup and your debit card… I bet the girls would be envious. 😉

It looks like this palette has everything you need for a fully done face. It includes Lip Glazes in Berry, Lotus Bloom and Soft Pink,  Eye Colors in Sable, Primrose and Black Plum, Cheek Colors in Rose and Plum, Crème Glow Veil in Sunlit, a mini Long Lash Mascara in Black and an eye color/smudge double-ended brush.

Right now it’s only available as a pre-order and ships around 8/20 but I’m definitely tempted… how about you?

Make Up For Ever for Tyler Rose at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim

For the Tyler Rose show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami, Make Up For Ever key artist Lottie created a fresh, sun kissed make up look that was inspired by David Lee Roth’s iconic “California Girls” music video. The skin had a subtle pink flush around the eyes and cheeks, and the eyes were defined with shades of black and rose.

Complexion & Cheeks: To get a strong flush on the entire cheek, apply MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Microfinish Blush #6 starting at the outer temples and sweeping downward to the apple of the cheeks.

Eyes: Apply MAKE UP FOR EVER Eye Shadow #152 to the entire lid and crease, extending to the base of the brow bone. Next, apply MAKE UP FOR EVER Eye Shadow #132 to the outer corners of the eye lid and sweep the color into the crease. Add more definition by lining the inner and outer lash lines with MAKE UP FOR EVER Waterproof Liner #1 in black. Finish with a thick coat of MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Smoky Lash.

Lips: To give the lips a pinky red pout, Lottie applied MAKE UP FOR EVER Lipstick #204 to make the color pop.

For this look, we’re giving away 1 Flash Color in #5, 1 HD Microfinish Blush in #6 (salmon pink) and 1 Lipstick in #204 (cream cherry red). Altogether, this is a $62 value.

Make Up For Ever for Marysia Swim at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim

For the Marysia Swim show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami, Make Up For Ever key artist Lottie created a beach, fresh faced make up look with a beautiful glow for the show on Monday, July 19th. The make up was neutral with a delicately smoky seaweed green eye designed to complement the collection, which was inspired by a dream vacation to the islands of the Pacific.

Complexion & Cheeks: Lottie used MAKE UP FOR EVER Mat Bronze and MAKE UP FOR EVER Compact Shine On to give the skin a soft glow. She gave the cheeks natural contour with MAKE UP FOR EVER Sculpting Blush #20.

Eyes: The eyes had a grey wash that was created by blending MAKE UP FOR EVER Flash Color #0 in teal from the lid into the crease and then sweeping Eye Shadow #33 in grey across the eye lid and crease, then dusting it around the outer corner of the eyes and just below the lower lash line. The models did not wear liner or mascara.

Lips: Lottie applied lacquered MAKE UP FOR EVER Lipstick #221 for a natural, nude lip.

From this look we will be giving away 1 Mat Bronze #2 (medium bronze), 1 Eyeshadow #33 (matte grey) and 1 HD Microfinish Blush #8 (pink nude).

For the Luli Fama show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami, Make Up For Ever key artist Lottie created a glamorous make up look for the show on Sunday, July 18th that was inspired by the vibrant colors in the brand’s swimwear collection. Lottie gave the models a dramatic eye with hues of coral, purple and gold that complimented the core colors in the collection.

Complexion & Cheeks: The skin was bronzed with highlights.

Eyes: Lottie first applied MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Cream #14 to the outer corners of the lids and blended inward. Next she applied MAKE UP FOR EVER Eye Shadow #17 to the crease and then dusted the outer corners and crease with MAKE UP FOR EVER Star Powder #930 to add a golden brown shimmer.
