Absolutely Brilliant: Lancome L'Absolu Creme De Brilliance

Lancome’s L’Absolu Creme de Brilliance is a hybrid of sorts. It’s more than just your average lip gloss, delivering lip treatment, hydration and a hearty dose of long-lasting color. The core of this product is a concentrated anti-aging molecule called Pro-Xylane™, and I’m sure it likely delivers on its promise. But I don’t really want to focus on that. I want to put the technical, scientific reasons this gloss may be superior aside and tell you why I love it. The wear! The smell! The feel! The colors! The packaging!  It’s absolutely brilliant.

I’ve been trying this out in Amanda Sucree, a bronzy neutral. Funny thing, I was obsessed with Amanda Sucree in the late 90s after getting a tube in a Lancome gift-with-purchase. This is definitely a classic Lancome shade! I was blown away by this product though – it feels so amazing on the lips. It never gives a dry feeling and it has more pigment than a gloss but actually looks like a gloss on the lips. This is a rock star lip product.

I think this that every woman would benefit from having in their makeup bag. Next time there’s a Lancome gift-with-purchase, I plan to pick up either Champagne or Blush Classique. If you’re like me, you always go for the gift but never know what it is you actually need to buy. Add this to your must-try list!

New! Lancome Bronze Riviera Summer Collection

Lancome’s Bronze Riviera is one of this season’s most stunning collections. It’s classic summer beauty – “a playful glow of bronze” and “celebratory pop of pink.” Amen to that Lancome! While these shades may be expected in the summer months, this collection is unexpectedly refreshing.

The Tropiques Minérale Bamboo Bronzer is the showstopper of the collection. I basically want to go on vacation to the locale imprinted on the product. And because this bronzer is so beautiful, I’m certain I could never actually use it. But if you are to crack the suface, it’s likely to last a short lifetime. The bronzer is nearly the size of a DVD!

If you haven’t already, this collection is worth checking out. It’s pretty extensive, here’s the full rundown.

Sun Safety Splurge or Steal: Kiehl's vs Neutrogena

I was nearly set to post about Kiehl’s Super Fluid UV Defense SPF 50+ when I picked up a tube of Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Liquid Sunblock. We’re definitely in splurge or steal territory here! They are shockingly similar in ingredients and performance.  Had I discovered the Neutrogena first, I may not have splurged on the Kiehl’s.  But I do love them both — they are serious sun safety rock stars!

First, the ingredient breakdown. They contain the same active ingredients at nearly the same percentages.

Both formulas are incredibly lightweight and need to be shaken prior to use to activate the ingredients. Unless you are sensitive to physical suscreen, these will not break you out or clog your pores. Both are intended to be worn under your makeup and over your moisturizer. Arguably, you could use this as your moisturizer in a pinch. Both formulas absorb almost immediately. I love the liquidity – just don’t forget to shake!

Now for the ever so slight differences. I noticed a slightly different scent. Both are fragrance free but have a slight sunscreen smell that disappears immediately after application. They have a slightly different finish on the skin to the touch - the Kiehl’s has more of a silky feel. I think that the Neutrogena has better priming abilities as it controlled oil longer on my face. Neutrogena is also available in higher SPF – 55 and 70. And last, the price difference. Kiehl’s is $32 for 1.7 FL oz and Neutrogena’s is $10.79 for 1.4 FL oz.

Whether you opt to spurge or steal, make sure you wear sunscreen!

Currently Loving: La Ligne de Chanel Professional Duo Eyeliner

Before I was a beauty addict with a penchant for gel and cream liners, I was a simple gal with a love for cake eyeliners. I first tried a Clinique version when I was about 15 years old and used it down to the last brush stroke. So naturally when I tried the La Ligne de Chanel Professional Duo Eyeliner, I was instantly taken back. Cake liner is so easy to use and to control, and the Chanel duos are certainly a step-up from the traditional. One side is a solid liner and the other is sparkly, and when used together you have an instant smokey eye.

L-R, gold side of Nars Alhambra, Nars Abyssinia, Chanel Celadon-Lame (both swatched wet)

I’ve been obsessed with Chanel’s Celadon-Lame as of late, pairing the deep green liner with a a bronzey cheek, nude lip and gold lid. I first apply the gold eyeshadow all over the lid, then apply the Celadon side wet along the upper lash line and in the outer third of my lower lash line. Then I dampen my Nars smudge brush and grab the Lame side and smudge it over and above the liner. The finishing touch is taking a fluffy eyeshadow brush and blending with a neutral like Nars Abyssinia.

You can find La Ligne de Chanel Professional Duo Eyeliners on counters or online. If you like cake liners or are looking for an easier eyeliner option, these are definitely worth checking out!

New! Tarte Summer Collection 2010

Tarte Cosmetics has your back this summer. Their new summer collection is waterproof, smudgeproof and budgeproof – which is probably what we all need in the heat! I know it’s only the beginning of June but I have a feeling this summer is going to be absolutely sweltering. There have already been so many days that I had the melting face feeling.

Tarte’s Summer collection includes:

emphasEYES™ waterproof clay eye shadow & liner pot – Available in five shades: bronze, black, indigo, plum, and brown.  This liner is infused with Amazonian white clay and contains a natural waterproofing agent.  It also comes with a double-ended brush that looks pretty amazing!

Matte waterproof mineral powder bronzer – This is the sister to my favorite bronzer – Tarte’s Park Ave Princess – but this version is matte and waterproof. This is very exciting because even though I love the original, sometimes you just want a matte bronzer.

multiplEYE ™ natural lash enhancing waterproof mascara – Tarte’s multiplEYE is infused with a proprietary peptide that stimulates lashes to help boost length and strength – and is “step 3” in the multiplEYE regimen.

ReCreate™ silicone-free primer with Wrinkle Rewind™ technology – I’m really excited about this primer – it’s perfect for those with sensitive, oily and acne-prone skin. It’s silicon-free, has built in anti-aging properties and helps boost skin’s moisture content. It’s actually perfect for everyone!

Also, the folks at Tarte released three new shades of the 24/7 lip sheers just in time for summer. I really like these and am pleased to see the new lighter shades — Sunday (shimmery pink) Dawn (shimmering golden nude) and Twilight (shimmering peach nude).

You can check out Tarte’s summer collection at Sephora or Tarte online. Make sure you also check out Tarte’s You Tube channel – they have a new video up on the emphasEYES™ waterproof clay eye shadow & liner pot!
