Hitting counters July 8 is MAC’s Alice + Olivia Collection. Like other MAC fashion collaborations, this collection is uniquely its own, this time unique to fashion designer Stacey Bendet of Alice + Olivia. The items in this collection are hip and playful – and the perfect compliment to her designs. Here’s the official details:
- Later – Deepest black with a hint of purple pearl
- If It Sparkles – Frosty white plus a touch of pink
- Partylicious – Groovy turquoise mixed with silver sparkle
Dazzleglass Creme ($18)
- Sparklicious – Creamy, softest pink with multidimensional pearl
- If It’s Pink – Shimmering, hot to trot pink
- I.Want.Candy – Electric yellow with a sparkling edge
Nail Lacquer ($12)
- Morning.After – Creamy, get-noticed turquoise
- So Rich So Pretty – A party-ready purple with a hint of frost
- Military – Black matte with silver suede
This is a fun launch, and I think nail polish lovers are going to be excited! I’ve always been a fan of Dazzleglass Cremes, and the yellow is intriguing. I think it could really transform lipsticks and be a fun product to play with. I’m also all over the If It Sparkles pigment. Let us know if you’re adding anything to your shopping list.
I am in love, ladies. The new Bobbi Brown Denim & Rose collection has me swooning over its gorgeous blues and pinks. This new denim inspired collection is available online and in stores now.
“Everyone looks great in jeans— and anyone can pull off a dark denim eye. To make it wearable, I’ve paired inky blue shadows with pretty roses for lips and cheeks. The combination is casual and put-together, rock & roll but romantic, and modern yet classic all at once.” – Bobbi Brown
The star of the show is the new limited edition Denim & Rose palette. This was genuine love at first sight, ladies. At $60, this palette includes 4 eyeshadows, 1 blush and 4 lip colors. I love that this palette lets you go the neutral route if you choose or funk it up a bit with that gorgeous blue and sparkling pink.
The limited edition Denim & Rose mini brush set is also part of this collection. It includes a mini Lip Brush with cap, Mini Blush brush, Mini Eyeliner brush and mini Angle Eye Shadow brush.
This collection also contains a few other denim inspired gems. First is the limited edition Sparkle Eye Shadow in Denim. It’s Bobbi’s grown-up take on glitter. I haven’t felt the need to collect Bobbi’s Sparkle Eye Shadows before but now I’m starting to wonder what I have been missing out on! When I played with this at the counter, I loved the shade, super gorgeous!
It doesn’t end there for the eyes. You can get your denim fix with Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Denim Ink and Extreme Party Mascara in Denim. Laurie picked up this eyeliner and is loving it. It’s a deep blue – like your favorite dark rinse denim! It’s edgy and unlike Bobbi’s previous blues: Sapphire and Cobalt. If you love gel liners – you need this.
Last but certainly not least is something new to feed our highlighter obsession. Bobbi Brown is introducing a limited edition Highlighter Pen in three shades: Opal, Bronze and Rose. I played with this a little bit and loved the formula, it is light and a little bit goes a long way. Come payday, I’m heading down to Nordstrom with debit card in hand saying “I want this”! 🙂
How about you? Anything from this collection tickle your fancy? Let us know in the comments.
Chanel Paradoxal from the Fall makeup collection is as gorgeous as I thought it would be. It’s a perfect slate purple. I ran to Saks on Friday after work in hopes the collection would be out. It wasn’t, but I asked and turns out it was in just not on display yet. The Chanel boutique in Chicago had already sold out of Paradoxal, so I didn’t hesitate to buy this. I applied two coats of Paradoxal and a top-coat, and did the same on my toes. It’s love!
Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick has so many positive attributes. Before you even use it, it’s love. From the chic “Chanel” embossed on the lipstick to the luxe packaging. But beyond aesthetics is a high quality lipstick. It’s moisturizing for a lipstick, soft and smooth upon application, which is exactly what it is supposed to happen according to Chanel. I find that one swipe of color is a perfect amount, but a few more helps intensify the color.
I’ve been wearing these shades show above, Legende (top) and La Pausa (bottom). These swatches are just one swipe of color, and La Pausa is definitely the sheerer of the two. I love them both though – they look fresh and sexy. La Pausa is quite possibly the most flattering coral shade I’ve ever worn. I find myself reaching for these over a gloss, which is a sign that it’s a major win!
In total, there are 30 shades across four color families. If you want to splurge on a lipstick – and it’s definitely a splurge at $30 – there’s at least one shade that will be perfect for you. And, we’re getting three new, also permanent, Rouge Coco’s with the Chanel fall makeup collection coming soon. What’s your perspective on the Rouge Coco’s? Have you splurged? Or found your “perfect” shade? Let us know!
Disclosure: We received a sample of these lipsticks.
Last night I attended Clarisonic event here in Seattle at Spa Scotta to celebrate the launch of their new Sonic Chatter blog. This was the first time I have been able to attend an event held by a beauty brand in my own hometown (in case you are wondering, they are based near Seattle) so I was very excited to go!
The ladies at Spa Scotta were fantastic hosts, if you haven’t been there before, I urge you to book an appointment… I had the best pedicure of my life there. In addition to experiencing the new CND Shellac nail treatment (more on that tomorrow) and massages, we got a chance to see the new Clarisonic Opal in action and to try it on ourselves in addition to checking out the Clarisonic Plus, a model made for face and body. A great tip for using the Clarisonic Plus is to use it all over your body right before applying a self-tanner, it will get rid of all that dead skin and your self-tanner will look smoother.
I had a chance to see the Opal being used backstage at the Chris Benz show during Fashion Week in February but my first hands on experience with it was yesterday. Tracing the Opal along the under-eye area feels amazing! One of the gals from Clarisonic actually told me she keeps hers with her in her car in case she ever needs a mid-day pick me up. I don’t know that it will replace my mid-day latte but it definitely seems like a good idea to me.
I received a samples of each product at the event so we’re putting it to the test! Laurie and I will be reviewing both the Clarisonic Plus and the Clarisonic Opal and letting you know how it works for us so stay tuned for more on these two products.
Cover Girl welcomed a new addition to its “Blast” family recently with the Cover Girl Liquiline Blast Eyeliner. It offers the intensity of a liquid liner and the easy application of a pencil. It’s an incredibly creamy liner and undeniably similar (in theory) to Urban Decay’s 24/7 liners. I picked up the shade Blue Bloom – a shockingly bright blue – on a whim. The verdict? I’m pretty pleased. This is a great liner for the price.
Liquiline Blast applies like a dream. I’ve been using it on my lower lash line for a pop of color and it doesn’t smudge a bit (unless you want it to). But…there’s a but. I think the intensity of the color wears off throughout the day. The good news is it definitely doesn’t bleed onto the skin, but if you’re looking for 7-10 hour intensity you’re not going to get it unless you reapply. But the no color bleeding is a perk! In fact, after I removed my makeup at the end of the day and washed my face, I had to go back to the undereye area with a qtip soaked in eye makeup remover! Plus, the smudger on the end of the liner is pretty cool. It’s a smooth, rubber-like texture and makes for a good smudger before the liner sets.
Overall, these may not be for everyone, but if you’re shy to colors these are a great, budget-friendly option.
Who doesn’t like to have fun with their makeup? Jouer Cosmetics is definitely a way to inject some fun into your makeup bag. After all, Jouer does mean “play” in French. The brand combines wearable colors and playful, practical packaging. All of the pieces can be grouped together for a truly customizable palette. Shown above is Jouer Cosmetics Instant Chic Collection, which includes:
- Peach Power Eyeshadow – matte pale peach
- Fawn Cream Tint – creamy apricot
- Suntan Bronzer – matte honey bronze
- Starfish Lip Gloss – sheer peach with champagne shimmer
Top: Starfish Lip Gloss; Bottom L-R: Suntan Bronzer, Peach Powder Eyeshadow, Fawn Tint
This collection is my first foray into Jouer, and I am beyond impressed. I like the packaging and how it all “clicks” together, but even more than that I love the colors and the formula. It’s great quality and so wearable. I’ve been wearing these colors all week for an easy summer look. The bronzer is matte and very complementary to my light skin (above is a heavier swatch). And I’m obsessed with the peach eyeshadow – it brightens up my eye area perfectly.
Jouer Cosmetics are sold at Henri Bendel’s in NYC and online. I’m planning a trip to New York in July and I definitely want to see more Jouer in person, especially the Moisture Tints! Let us know if you’ve tried any Jouer, I’d love some more product recommendations.
