New! Cover Girl LashBlast Fusion

Cover Girl’s newest installment of it’s popular LashBlast mascara, LashBlast Fusion, is meant to both volumize and lengthen lashes. It’s a lofty goal for any mascara to do both and do it well, so I was very interested to see if LashBlast Fusion could get the job done.

At first glance, I was smitten with the tube and it’s snazzy blue color. Isn’t it pretty? The wand is very similar to the original LashBlast but the bristles are a tad longer. As a fan of the original and the LashBlast Length, I could see a fusion happening in this wand. As for performance, this is a wonderful mascara. I tried the black-brown shade for a week and consistently had great results. It lengthens my lashes very impressively and pumps them up subtly. I would say it lengthens more so than it volumizes but I also think the black-brown is more of a natural look.

If you are a fan of the LashBlast line, I know you’ll love LashBlast Fusion. If you aren’t, you really should try this anyway. It doesn’t flake or smudge and is easy to remove. It should be appearing in stores nationwide in April. Just look for the blue tube!

Shu Uemura To Be Discontinued in the U.S.

Women’s Wear Daily is reporting that Shu Uemura parent company L’Oreal is pulling it’s Shu Uemura displays and counters from US stores. If you are like me and like to make your Shu purchases in person, I’m afraid you only have a little while longer to do that because soon your only option will be purchasing from the brand’s website.

So why is L’Oreal shifting gears with Shu Uemura? Carol Hamilton, president of L’Oréal USA’s Luxury Division explained:

We love the brand, but it is a very small part of our portfolio. It’s a simple decision after a very complex analysis: we have a very large portfolio, and we want to focus on growing the brands which have a larger presence in the U.S. market.

Some of the larger brands referred to above are Lancome, Giorgio Armani and Yves Saint Laurent. Did you know that the brand does 80% of its business in Asia? With a stat like that, the move starts to make more sense but definitely saddens me. I think a trip to my local Shu counter is in order to starting building a wishlist. How about you?

New! MAC Cosmetics Give Me Liberty of London Collection

Liberty of London is everywhere right now. I can’t flip through a magazine or the channels on TV without seeing an ad for their collection at Target… not that I mind, the collection is super cute. I’m just kicking myself that I wasn’t at Target the day of the collections release. I waited 1 day and I was far too late.

Liberty of London has also made an appearance in the beauty world as part of it’s collaboration with MAC for the Give Me Liberty of London collection. As with everything collaboration around the same time each year (Hello Kitty and Fafi for example), MAC is giving us special limited edition packaging true to Liberty of London’s style. Isn’t the packaging gorgeous? I am really loving the look of the entire collection.

The very latest in a series of famous M∙A∙Collaborations, it was only a matter of time before the demure-to-daring kaleidoscopic prints of Liberty of London coloured our world with Brit wit and bohemian chic. From the unstudied, Sienna Miller style of Spitalfields Market to the grit and glamour of Portobello Road, the swinging London girl has always been an unstoppable M•A•C makeup force! Spring 2010 blooms with the ultimate flower fusion as M∙A∙C joining forces with Liberty, creating cool Britannia compacts and Lipsticks, Eye Shadows, Powder, Blush, Nail Lacquers and blushing, bountiful, quite British accessories.

Let’s check out what is part of this collection… Continue reading

Tweezerman Matchbox Itty Bitty Files

You know when you buy something, you forget about it and then one day you find it and suddenly love it? That’s how I feel about Tweezerman Matchbox Itty Bitty Files. I’m always picking something up out of the cheap bins at Ulta and this made its way into my basket.

Let’s talk about the packaging for a minute… isn’t it adorable? From the size, to the pattern on the files and the matchbox case, it is love from start to finish. Without even opening the box, I picked them up thinking they were the old school thin emery boards I use to find in my mom’s drawers. I wasn’t expecting top notch quality, just something cheap I could put in my desk at work in case of an emergency. When I actually went to open the box, I found mini sturdy nail files that definitely make getting a box an absolute bargain. I liked them so much that I actually started handing them out to people at the office.

Each box has 12 mini nail files and each nail file has 2 filing surfaces to shape and smooth your nails with. I think I’m replacing the Filemate in my hangbag with these cute Matchbox Itty Bitty Files. Why care something bigger when this will do the job in a pinch?

LA Splash Cosmetics Glitter Nail Polishes

I’m not sure what happened but I woke up one day and suddenly developed an obsession with glitter nail polishes. If you were to look through my stash, you would find that I love cremes but I do make exceptions for shimmers if they are red. Now I’m starting to add some glitters to my collection and came across a few fun shades from LA Splash that I’m loving… and they are cheap!

I almost walked right past the display, my local Ulta had the LA Splash display at ground level but I hunched down and spent some time checking out their display. I found they have a lot of glitters in the line and ended up picking 3 up that night. At $3.99 a bottle, how could I say no? Plus the $5 coupon in the new issue of Glamour was an added incentive.

Skin Care: Splurge or Save?

My friends at Daily Makeover have some great tips on what to spend your money on when it comes to skincare. Let’s see what they say…

You want the best for your skin–it is, after all your largest organ and a healthy-looking outside is indicative of a healthy inside. But does having great skin mean you need to spend $400 on so-called miracle creams? We didn’t think so, so we asked Annet King, director of global education at the International Dermal Institute to help us make some sense of the skincare aisle. Read on for her no-nonsense skincare tips on what products you can scrimp on and which ones you should splurge for.

Cleanser is one of those products that you’re literally washing down the drain: It doesn’t stay on your skin long enough to benefit from tons of different pricey ingredients. Instead, King advises saving your money and choosing a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser that will remove dirt and oil and won’t irritate your skin. We like: Johnson & Johnson Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash.

Since moisturizer not only sits on your skin all day, but is also expected to hydrate and protect it, King recommends dropping a few extra dollars on this category. “Look for a light and gentle moisturizing lotion that’s suitable for your skin type and that doesn’t contain any irritants–otherwise you’ll run into skin problems that you didn’t have before,” she says. We like: Bliss Triple Oxygen+C Energizing Cream.

Since UV rays are the leading cause of aging and damage in the skin, you would think you’d need to spend major cash to get the best protection. Not so says King, who attributes major advances in sunscreen technology and wide availability to the cheap, high quality products currently on the shelves at your local drugstore. We like: Aveeno Positively Ageless Sunblock Lotion SPF 55.

Eye Cream
Since your eyes are the first areas to show the signs of aging, King suggests you invest in an eye cream with high concentrations of retinol, vitamin C, peptides and antioxidants to give you the best results. We like: Lancome Génifique Eye. However, if you’re not concerned about lines and are just looking for something to soothe tired eyes, King says that you can pick up an inexpensive, fragrance-free, cooling eye gel.

The key here, says King, is keeping your skin looking healthy and radiant. While there are tons of cheap skin polishes out there, most of them use harsh granules which can damage or scratch your skin. King advises you skip them in favor of a slightly pricier exfoliator that uses less-abrasive chemicals to get rid of dead skin cells. We like: Dermalogica AGE Smart Multivitamin Thermafoliant.

Face Mask
Face masks are another example of where new innovations mean lots of choices for those on a budget. Whether your concerns are acne or dehydration, there’s a quality drugstore face mask for you. We like: Yes To Tomatoes Total Treatment Facial Mask.

Anti-Aging Treatments
If there’s one place to really drop some cash, King says its here. “Definitely invest as anti-aging treatments are what really helps to get results on the skin. You just can’t get this type of ingredient technology for cheap, as you need a higher percentage of active ingredients to see real results,” she says. We like: Kate Somerville HydraKate Line Release.

So the next time you’re stocking up on skincare essentials, keep these simple tips in mind and you’ll not only see a more radiant complexion, you’ll also save yourself some cash.

5 Ways To Wear Coral This Spring

If you had to sum up spring beauty in a single word, “coral” would be the word. Nearly every collection captured this color in some way and it really is the perfect color for spring. And everyone can wear it! Here’s our picks on how to incorporate coral in your look – be it cheeks, eyes, nails or lips!

  • Revlon Colorburst Lipstick, Peach: This new formula from Revlon is fabulous and easy on the wallet. It goes on light as a feather, is well pigmented and comes with a great range of shades. If you want something a little funkier and bolder, give Coral a try… that’s more of an orange red.
  • Bobbi Brown Nectar Shimmer Brick: This is the most beautiful Shimmer Brick to ever grace my presence. It’s a pinky coral and makes for a beautiful highlight. And if you’re fair skin you can use it as a blush. The shimmer is finely milled and not over the top so it’s just perfect.
  • OPI Nail Lacquer, A Good Man-darin is Hard to Find: What better way to incorporate on-trend color than on your nails? We’re loving this creamy tangerine from OPI’s Hong Kong collection. This would also look great on the toes…thinking of a pedicure right this instant:)
  • Benefit Nice Melons Velvet Eyeshadow: These are some of the smoothest, pigment-packed eyeshadows and we love them. Nice Melons is a light coral with a gold finish. Coral isn’t the easiest color to wear on the eye for all people – but this shade is incredibly easy to wear in some way!
  • Cover Girl ShineBlast Lip Gloss, Ignite: These glosses are super shiny and sweet and the shade Ignite is one of many coral options to choose from. They aren’t very pigmented glosses, but they give off a sheen and are a perfect layer over a lipstick or lip stain.

How are you wearing coral shades this Spring? What are your favorites? Let us know in the comments.
