New! NARS Spring 2010 Collection

I love the excitement of new collections and I especially love seeing a new NARS collection. Aside from just being a huge fan, I love hearing his inspritation for a line and appreciate that he’s not only a makeup artist but a photographer as well.  Plus he’s got an adorable French Bulldog and I’m a sucker for the smushy faced pups:) I am a  proud mother of a Boston Terrier!

NARS Spring 2010 collection is inspired by Catherine Deneuve’s role as Lucille in La Chamade (1968) and Francois NARS chose and photographed Amber Valetta as the face of the campaign. I am loving what he did to counter and highlight her face – using Amour Blush and Albatross Highlighting Powder.

And here’s the scoop on the rest of the collection!

New! Essie Art of Spring 2010 Collection

The new Art of Spring collection from Essie is hitting stores on February 1st. This collection of nail color was inspired by the colors and textures seen at Spring 2010 fashion shows and features shades of lilac, rose and cerise. It’s a return to soft pretty shades after the sparkle from the holiday season. Here’s what is in this collection:

  • Pop Art Pink -sheer chiffon pink
  • Lilacism – satiny smooth lilac
  • Neo Whimsical – light as a feather rose-plum
  • Van D’go – deliciously ripe melon
  • Tart Deco – dreamy creamy coral
  • Red Nouveau – fiery hot red pepper

A 4-4pc mini set will also be available and it includes Pop Art Pink, Lilacism, Tart Deco, Red Nouveau. Expert tip? For polish to last longer use a base and top coat then a few days later, apply Essie’s Shine-e to refresh polish to a top shine finish.

I already know what shades I’m dying to try (Tart Deco and Red Nouveau of course). What about you? Let us know in the comments.

Wishlist: Renee Rouleau AHA/BHA Cleansing Gel

I l-l-love exfoliators and when I find one that I can use every day, it’s game on. Recently I tried a sample of Renee Rouleau’s AHA/BHA Cleansing Gel and as soon as I was done patting my face dry, I realized I need to get this product into my routine stat!

This cleansing gel features my holy trinity of acids for gals with oily/acne prone skin: salicylic, glycolic and lactic acids. It has a leg up on the refining cleanser I use in the shower every morning for a few reasons. The first is this beloved combo of acids to help exfoliate the skin and the second is it is actually cheaper than what I’m using now and I get more product… SOLD. And… I found this cleanser was also easy on my skin. The jojoba beads gently exfoliates without being the least bit abrasive.

Did you know that Renee Rouleau’s AHA/BHA Cleansing Gel is the 2007 Winner of Allure Magazine Best of Beauty Award in the “Best Cleanser for Oily/Acne Prone Skin” category? I didn’t know either but now I’m definitely going to get more acquainted with this skincare line.

New! Trish McEvoy Little Black Card – Champagne Truffles Face Palette

Of course the other counter I wandered over to was the Trish McEvoy counter… I can’t seem to set foot in Nordstrom without wandering over there. I was hoping to see the Demure collection in person (it won’t be on counters until early spring) and I ended up bring this Champagne Truffles Little Black Card Face Palette home with me instead, I could not resist it. This Little Black Card is going to be one of my best friends at Fashion Week next month… at least that was what I told myself when I was handing over my debit card. 🙂

In the top row it includes Natural Blush, Champagne Shimmer Powder, Shell Eye Shadow, new Truffle Eye Shadow and new Charcoal Diamond Eye Definer. The image makes it look a little more pink than it really is but believe me, it is more neutral than it appears… and Charcoal Diamond is gorgeous, think black eyeshadow with a hint of blue-green sparkle.

Then in the bottom row we have Natural and Honey Brightening Line Minimizing Concealer and for the lips there is Matte Pink Rose Lip Color, Simply Glamorous Lip Gloss and Sexy Pearl Beauty Booster SPF 15 Lip Gloss. Normally, I do not go for light pink lip color but I was surprised to see that I could pull this off pretty well. This pink would brighten up anyone’s complexion.

Where are my Trish girls at? I know you’re out there…

New! Laura Mercier Polished Collection

I also went down to Nordstrom this weekend, only I was drawn to different counters. 🙂 One of the collections that caught my eye this weekend was the Laura Mercier Polished collection. This collection is a mixture of finishes; matte on the eyes, shimmering and radiant on the face and semi-matte or pearlescent on the lips. It is a smaller collection, in fact I almost missed it with everything that was going on that day but it is indeed a very polished collection. I can see some of the items in this collection becoming my new staples.

My weakness for highlighters was completely exposed when I saw the star of this collection, the new Radiant Creme Cheek Colour. As soon as I saw this, I was digging through my bag to get my debit card out. It is so pretty that I don’t want to ruin the top layer of it.  But seriously ladies, this highlighter is just gorgeous… that’s all I have to say about it. Laurie and I both caved on it this weekend.

The collection also includes 3 new Matte Eye Colour Duos, a new Lip Shine and 3 new Satin Lip Colours. All the co-ordination is done for you and the collection is mistake-proof. The lipsticks are pretty and come in neutral shades that will flatter most skintones. They also feature a new long-wearing formula that goes from satin to matte within minutes and is almost “elastic” in the way to adapts to lips and stays put. I’m dying to put these to the test.

If you have all the semi-matte or neutral lip color you can handle, direct your attention to the Crystal Pink Lip Shine. This was the other item I picked up from the collection. It’s just a pot of gloss but the pink crystal shine is like the cherry on top of a delicious ice cream sundae, it just adds a special touch to your lips. I am loving the golden pink shine this gives my lips. I’m very tempted to buy backups.

Have you checked out the Laura Mercier Polished collection? What did you think? Have you picked anything up? Let us know in the comments.

New! Lancome Ô My Rose Collection

This past weekend, I ventured to Nordstrom’s to do a little beauty browsing. I especially love doing this when new seasonal collections launch because it’s always fun to see what and who can draw me in. As I was casually strolling by the Lancome counter I smiled at one of the associates and couldn’t help but notice how amazing her eye makeup looked with a bright pop of teal. Then I looked at the other woman working the counter and noticed how amazing her makeup was and I just stopped in my tracks. And let me just give you some context: greens aren’t something I usually gravitate towards. But these ladies were rocking this teal majorly and I needed to know more!

The teals and corals you’ll find in Ô My Rose are so stunning – and I think refreshingly unique. We’ve been blessed with a new shade of Lancome’s Ink Artliner in Teal Delight – a gel liner that is rivaling others in my makeup bag – and a smooth, beautifully pigmented Color Design Eye Shadow Quad in Pop’ n Green. I let the makeup artist on duty use both of these products on me and I loved the results. She finished the look off with the new Pop’n Cheeks Blush in Coral Flirt and the La Laque Fever Ultimate Lasting Full Color in Mandarina. I intended on buying it all – but the eye shadow quad was already sold out. Luckily, I was able to snatch the the last Teal Delight!

This collection is jampacked with another Color Design quad in Kissed By Copper, more lip colors and kohl eyeliners (one of which is also an amazing teal!). But I urge you to check out the Artliner if you do nothing else this spring! It’s truly stunning and if my counter is any indication, it’s going to fly off shelves.

You can check the collection out in full, along with the looks Lancome put together, on

Current Obsession: MAC Joie de Vivre Cremeblend Blush

I was pretty much sold on the MAC in Lillyland collection the instant I saw the Cremeblend Blushes. I knew they had potential to be amazing and decided to go investigate last week when the collection hit counters.  And let me tell you, these blushes do not disappoint, especially Joie de Vivre!

Joie de Vivre is a pinky coral that I can see flattering every skin tone. On my fair skin, it’s a welcoming pop of color that brightens my entire complexion. The texture on these are not slippery or oily in any way and are a dream to work with.  They are not as bold as pictured in the pan, but aren’t weak on pigment either. When blended with fingers, it’s a more subtle application that can be built up. When used with a brush – I’ve tried with both the MAC 188 and Sonia Kashuk’s Flat Blusher Brush – it blends into the skin seamlessly. I especially like using the denser Sonia Kashuk brush.

I’ve been wearing this blush every day since I bought it! I’m obsessed and majorly lusting after the other shades now as a result. Anyone else check these out? Sharing the obsession? Let us know your thoughts.

Bobbi Brown Makeup Face Lift Collection

Bobbi Brown’s onto something with her Makeup Face Lift Collection, which touts products that help you look well-rested in 5 minutes flat. I’m on board with that concept, how about you guys? This is a small release but the timing is perfect and I’m particularly excited to see the return of my beloved Tinted Eye Brightener in a click-pen format!

Here’s the collection deets:

EXTRA Eye Repair Cream ($65)
Packed with peptides, natural plant oils and humectants that target fine lines, wrinkles, dark circles, puffiness and dryness, this rich, concentrated cream visibly revives eyes.

Tinted Eye Brightener ($38)
Now in a portable pen, this lightweight concealer (8 shades available) counteracts under-eye circles by brightening up the area. I’ve been using the potted version for years and live by this stuff. Haven’t yet tried the newly packaged version, but I’m eager to. I will say though, the price did jump quite a bit.

Brow Pencil ($20)
Instantly give your eyes a “lift” with defined eyebrows with this new creamy, blendable pencil, available in five shades. It gives the natural look of eyebrow powder with the precision of a pencil and is equipped with its own sharpener.

Brightening Lip Gloss ($20)
Two new shades, Popsicle and Nectar, are included in this release. This formula rocks! It’s sheer, reflective and literally wakes up your face by creating the illusion of fuller lips. Ohmygoodness, Nectar is gor-geous!

Bobbi also recommends pairing these items with a flushed cheek – suggesting Pot Rouge in Pale Pink or Pink Truffle. This collection inspired the items I reached for this morning. I’m actually sporting some vintage Bobbi, the Pink Raspberry palette from two springs ago. The bright pop of blush is so perfect! And really, it’s zero degrees out. I’m just focused on keeping my skin looking bright and healthy.

The Makeup Face Lift Collection is available now at counters and at
