It’s like the second wave of Cyber Monday for beauty lovers. If you missed out on some of the awesome value sets this holiday season, chances are now you can get it on sale.
Sephora.com is offering an extra 20% off all sale items through December 31 with the code EXTRA at checkout. There are a lot of great deals to be had, like the Urban Decay Get Baked palette, Benefit Bright Lights Big City! set and Korres eyeshadows for $7 (pre-sale price!) And if you’re like me, you’ll keep checking the sale section see if anything new gets added. I can’t help myself:)
Sephora is also offering some “sweet steals” for under $10, which are a must to check out! If you shop at Sephora in-store, you’ve probably noticed these items at the register periodically. They’re usually only there for a quick period of time but they’re amazing – and now they are all online! I’m all over the Stila Couple a Crushes – deluxe sizes of the Pomengranate and Mango lip/cheek stains!
And Nordstrom slashed prices by 20-50% on a ton of beauty products, including the MAC holiday palettes and sets, Bobbi Brown holiday gifts, fragrance value sets and more! Here’s a few deals that I deem steal-worthy!
The Laura Mercier Colour Wadrobe (Carla asked Santa for this!) is now 25% off!
Bobbi Brown’s lip gloss trio is now 20% off.
Any great deals catching your eye? Or are you shopped out? I’m feeling a little under the weather but the beauty addict and sale-monger in me is always there:)
This Christmas, I am the most tan I have ever been. Usually I am a lovely shade of pale in December, but not this year, thanks to a mid-November vacation in Hawaii. One month later and I’ve still got a bronzey glow going on. I attribute it to my obssesive use of moisturizer. I think I literally locked the tan in – and I’m hoping to ride it out as long as I can!
In my quest to to maintain my Hawaii tan, I’ve been using body oil after shower and bath time. I find that applying it on damp/wet skin produces the most softening affect and locks in moisture. I’ve been a long-time fan of NARS Monoi Body Glow II which smells like a mix of coconut and gardenia and gives a luminous sheen. Seriously, this stuff makes my skin softer than any body butter ever could. But it’s a definite splurge at $59 for 3.9 oz.
So when one of my coworkers recommended I try Vaseline’s Cocoa Butter Gel Body Oil, I was eager to give it a try. For under eight bucks, you get 6.8 oz. of product. The smell is less floral and slightly more nutty, but it’s darn close. The consistency is more of a gel, which I actually prefer because it’s harder to spill! I have to be careful when applying the NARS because sometimes it drips from my hands. In terms of performance, I can hardly tell a difference. I deem this a worthy steal!
I would recommend both of these products in a heartbeat, especially the Vaseline! But if you are really interested in trying the NARS, I wanted to throw out a friendly shopping suggestion. In the online sale section at Sephora, they have a full-size NARS Multiple in South Beach, a shimmering apricot, along with a deluxe sample of the Body Glow.
On counters this month is a new Estee Lauder collection honoring the smokey eye and the darkest lashes possible. The Blacker than Black collection features six (!) mascaras, the signature Black Smoke eyeshadow quad and the Double Wear Eye Pencil in Onyx. Basically your toolbox for creating a sultry smokey eye.
This is a serious mascara lineup – the formulas Estee fans know and love but in new, intense jet black shades. There is nothing subtle about them, making them perfect for creating a dramatic eye.
- TurboLash in Turbo Black – limited edition
- Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting Mascara in Bold Black – limited edition
- Double Wear Zero-Smudge Lengthening Mascara in Blacker Black – limited edition
- Projectionist in Jet Black – limited edition
- Magnascopic in Black
- More than Mascara in More Black
While the mascaras are clearly the stars of this collection, you can’t have a smokey eye without the smoke. And ladies, the Double Wear Eye Pencils create some serious smoke. I’ve been using this pencil for the past month and think it is arguably one of the best formulas of pencil eyeliner out there. It’s creamy and easy to work with and once it sets, it sets!
What do you think about this collection? I like that it’s centered around mascara. And I am loving the promo image – right down to the black glove!
DISCLOSURE: A product sample was sent to Product Girl for consideration.
Dior has launched a new mascara to its DiorShow lineup, meet the new Diorshow Extase Mascara. Currently available as a Sephora Beauty Insider exclusive, this mascara is meant to plump lashes from the inside and out. It is also said to help promote stronger, fuller lashes.
I tried this mascara for the first time yesterday and at the end of the day, I was impressed with the formula. At the 10-hour mark, my mascara was completely in tact and that rarely happens for me. I made it through my work day without a single flake and mascara traveling to my lower eye area giving me racoon eyes. It was even smudge free this morning after I forgot to take my makeup off before bed. This formula hung for dear life! This is how my lashes looked last night:
My lashes still appeared full and thick up until the time I took my makeup off… and this is what my lashes looked like with just one coat applied in my car in the morning while I was in the Starbucks drive-thru. I can’t wait to see what they would look like if I actually had time to spare in the morning! With that said, the brush seemed to pick up a little bit more of the mascara than was needed so my lashes did clump together a little at first. But after cleaning the brush off a little bit, the clumping was a thing of the past. I’m not particularly loyal to one mascara or another but based on yesterday’s trial run, I may be singing a different tune.
Disclosure: a product sample was received for this review.
Since I am a cream product fiend, I’m just going to tell you about one more palette I am loving right now… Have you seen the Fresh Imperial Bedroom Face Palette? I picked it up a few weeks ago at Sephora and it was one of those times when from the moment I set eyes on it, I had to have it. It had me wondering why I never noticed this palette before.
When I read the name of this palette, I thought it was just perfect. When I see the shades in this palette, I think of candlelight and where is that appropriate? In the bedroom of course! If I were looking to enhance my come hither look (I don’t really have one but let’s pretend I do), this is the palette I’d reach for. This palette includes a cream Black Chemise Satin Line, a cream Gilded Satin Eye Luster, a cream Pale Moonlight Eye Luster, a cream Chantilly Lace Satin Luster and a Crown Rubies Lip Shine.
The products in the Fresh Imperial Bedroom Face palette are mostly sheer, the liner being the exception in this case. They give the face a great glow without appearing powdery or a chunky shimmer. The downside here is that the staying power is not great with the eye products. With my oily skin, the color is eaten up quickly but I haven’t tried them with a primer yet… that’s on my list of things to do. As highlighters (it is fine on the browbone) and lip color though, this palette works beautifully. Otherwise, you would need some touch-up time unless you only intend to the wear to last for a few hours.
When it comes to highlighters and blush, I am a cream fiend! It doesn’t always work in the summer with my oily skin but in colder seasons, I am on it like white on rice. Plus, I love something that’s easy to use that I can just put it on with my fingers. Being the cream fiend that I am, it was only natural that the first product I tried from makeup artist Julie Hewett’s line was her Mandy palette, a palette created for Mandy Moore.
Normally, I am not a Mandy Moore fan… I can’t deal with her music but if you sit me in front of a TV with A Walk to Remember on, it is guaranteed that I will cry. Now in the beauty realm, I can definitely deal with Ms. Moore as Julie Hewett’s inspiration. After all, I don’t think she has ever set foot on a red carpet looking a mess. The Mandy palette features 2 cream blushes known as Cheekies in Peachy and Natural, a cream highlighter known as a Shimmy in Goldie and a lipgloss known as a Lip Lush in Mimi. All of the colors in this palette are all sheer and will work with a variety of skin tones, plus the Cheekies are perfect shades for spring.
My favorite thing about Julie Hewett’s Mandy palette is its versatility. I could use the Shimmy on my eyes, lips and cheeks if I wanted to and the Cheekies are creamy enough to use on the lips as well. You can also mix the products together if you wanted to. If all I had in my bag was some powder, mascara and this palette, I’d be set and I’d look fresh and natural to boot… which reminds me, I need to make room for this in my makeup bag!
Speaking of beautiful packaging, I am loving the limited edition lip and eye duo palettes from afar. They are part of the Yves Saint Laurent holiday collection and the packaging is inspired by the luggage tags featured on their handbags. The colors in these duos are vibrant and catch the eye, don’t they?
The Your Lovely Palette Lip Duo includes a shiny rose-beige lipstick and a pearly champagne gloss with mini applicator. Then the Your Lovely Palette Eyeshadow Duo includes an intense violet and pearly lavender eyeshadows. The gold (lip duo) and silver (eye duo) compacts are engraved with the emblematic Yves Saint Laurent heart and their black vinyl straps can be used on a key ring, hand bag or belt. Handy, but why would you want to do that? If I owned one of these palettes, I’d keep them safe and cushioned at all times!
I am a sucker for packaging. Show me a beautifully presented beauty product and if I have enough money in my checking account, I will gladly hand over my debit card. Guerlain’s Imperial Holiday collection is one collection I’d gladly hand over my debit card for, with a presentation like this how could you not? The Imperial Holiday collection was designed to celebrate opulence and capture the brilliance and luminosity of precious stones and fabrics then translate that into a makeup collection.
I’d say Guerlain definitely reached their objective. With packaging this gorgeous, I’d be more inclined to collect this collection rather than use it! Let’s check out the rest of the collection.
