Product Girl 2009 Favorite Beauty Products – Bath, Body & Fragrance

To wrap up our favorite products for 2009, we’re reviewing our picks for bath and body and perfume.

Lisa Hoffman was high on our list of favorites this year, I happen to be obsessed with everything Lisa Hoffman now thanks to my love of her Madagascar Orchid Variations. Lisa Hoffman Bath Soak is a bath experience. To soak in a tub with her bath soak to love her. The same Madagascar Orchid scent is in this product and it is such a beautiful scent.

The La Mer Body Refiner is smooth skin in a tube. It is infused with diamonds and exfoliates the skin without being harsh. Plus is smells amazing, it has a completely refreshing scent for the shower. It is definitely pricey but I loved my sample so much that I went out and splurged on a tube of this.

Anyone with dry feet knows the “slather in vaseline and put on some socks” trick for softer feet but that doesn’t last very long. I don’t know about you but laying on thick layers of vaseline on a daily basis doesn’t appeal to me. With Barielle Total Foot Care Cream, I put the Vaseline behind me this year. It is effective without having to lay it on thick and does wonders for my heels.

Bath & Body Works Triple Moisture Shower Cream is exactly what it sounds like – moisturizing as can be. This may be B&BWs best formulation yet. Laurie’s a huge fan of this lotion-esque body wash and is currently housing the Twilight Woods scent in her shower.

Both a good buy and a fantastic formula, Vaseline Sheer Infusion was a great new product of ’09. It has multiple layers of moisture (they call it Stratys 3) and absorbs really deeply into the skin. We’re a fan because it doesn’t leave our skin with a thick feeling but has the benefits of a deep moisturizer. The Mineral Renewal is our top pick!

Being musk lovers, Tom Ford White Suede was an immediate hit with us. The whole Tom Ford Private Blend White Musk collection is just beautiful but White Suede is our favorite. We’ll take a closer look at that one soon… I promise.

Yves Saint Laurent Parisienne makes us feel all warm and sultry. This floral features blackberry, rose and sandalwood notes for just the right amount of mystery. It’s completely feminine and totally seductive, just like Paris.

When Kenzo takes one of their best sellers and puts a twist on it, we’re all for it and Kenzo Amour Florale is just such a perfume. The original KenzoAmour is warm and sexy but Kenzo changed it up a little bit. KenzoAmour Florale was introduced with notes of neroli, grapefruit and black currant providing the burst of freshness we were looking for.

Is it the gorgeous bottle or the gorgeous perfume? Well, it’s actually both. Marc Jacobs Lola is a warm floral that Laurie instantly fell in love with at first glance and sniff.

We love Philosophy’s State of Grace perfumes and we loved seeing them add a new perfume to their line of fragrances. Philosophy Unconditional Love is a great addition to their fragrances. If you ask us, the fruitiness in Unconditional Love is just what they needed in their line up.

So that’s it! I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing our favorite beauty products from 2009. We’ll be back next year with more of our favorites. ;) We’re excited by all the new collections we’re seeing so 2010 looks like it will be a great year. What have been some of your favorite products this year? We want to hear all about it in the comments.

Product Girl 2009 Favorite Beauty Products – Skin, Nails & Hair Care

Our favorite beauty products of the year continues with our favorites in skincare, nails and haircare. Are some of our picks the same as yours? Keep reading…

Without a doubt Elizabeth Arden Prevage Moisturizer has been Carla’s favorite moisturizer of the year, she can’t sing its praises enough. It’s definitely pricey but the texture makes it last forever and it tames her skin like nothing else… she is hooked.

This year we got to know Talika Lash Conditioning Cleanser and our lashes were grateful for the introduction. This product not only removes mascara better than most makeup removers but also conditions lashes at the same time.

Sampar Skin Quenching Mist is as good as it gets if you’re obsessed with refreshing your skin with mists like we are. Not only does it have a devine rose scent to it but you can spray on as much as you’d like, no greasy residue left on your skin with this.

Suki Lemongrass Cleanser is another goodie from 2008 that we brought with us into 2009. You can use it as an extremely effective exfoliator or let it foam up for gentler way to clean your skin. Plus the lemongrass will definitely perk you up.

Garnier’s Nutri-Pure Detoxifying Wet Cleansing Towelettes are our top pick for cleansing wipes. These refreshing oil-free wipes have a clean fruity scent and do not dry out your skin if you’re having a “lazy” day and is the only thing you use to wash your face at night. Not that we do that or anything…

Thank you MAC for Style Black and the MAC Volcanic Ash Thermal Mask. It makes our skin so soft after just one use and there is something incredibly therapeutic about slathering sooty black ash all over your skin and rinsing it off with a hint of heat. Love!

Four months under our belt of using NARS Cleansing Oil and it’s still rocking our world. And the best part is the bottle isn’t even a quarter of the way empty!

Duri Rejuvacoat has saved my nails this year. This base coat not only helps strengthen nails (boy does it ever!) but has actually improved how my some of my nails grew. Some of the odd bends I have in my nails actually straightened out a bit.

Since I’m all about nail care this year (hello fellow ex-nail bitters!), It Cosmetics Nail Love has been in my handbag at all times. Why hasn’t anyone though of this before? This nail pen includes oil to condition nails but also has a rubber slanted tip to help push your cuticles back. Convenient, no?

For color, the Barielle All Lacquered Up collection has been my favorite from this year. My friend Michelle from All Lacquered Up helped create a collection of shades that I am absolutely in love with and I turn to them over and over again… I’m talking to you Glammed Out Garnet and Get Mauving.

It all starts with the nail polish remover and Zoya Remove + Nail Polish Remover is my favorite nail polish remover of all time. The delivery method is fantastic, formula is not toxic, conditions the nails and I’m all for a product that helps calm me and steady my hands before applying nail polish. The lavender scent does just that.

We were really excited when we started seeing forest greens step on to the Fall trend scene, which is why we fell hard for OPI’s Here Today, Aragon Tomorrow from the Espana collection. So deep and sultry, even if it did take nearly three coats to get it just right.

When my hair needs refreshing, Ojon Revitalizing Mist takes care of my hair with just a few spritzes. This product is also a leave in conditioner. If I don’t have time for my usual routine, this detangles and leaves hair soft. I hope Sephora brings this back as a Beauty Insider deluxe sample, the small bottles are perfect for travel and I lost mine.

Frederic Fekkai’s Advanced Full Blown Volume Shampoo shampoo gets us excited, ala old school Herbal Essence commercials-style. The smell is refreshing with a hint of lime and gives LIFE to fine hair. The effect is really noticeable when blow drying with a big round brush.

If we could bathe in MoroccanOil products, we totally would… it conditions hair like nothing we have ever used. It is safe to say that MoroccanOil Treatment has completely rocked our world. It conditions, protects against heat, adds shine and tames flyaways. What more could we ask for?

Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo isn’t exactly new but it is new to us this year. This product has saved my life in the morning (when I’m running late!) countless times this year and it is the only dry shampoo I keep re-purchasing. Why is that? It is gentle and does not irritate my scalp like other dry shampoos do.

So what about you? What are your favorite skincare, nails and hair products new to you this year?

Product Girl 2009 Favorite Beauty Products – Face and Palettes

Our favorite beauty products of the year continues with our must-haves for our faces and top-picks for palettes! We saw a lot of new foundations released this past year, with the trend no longer being just coverage but good-for-you ingredients. See what stood our for us below!

Kat Von D Tattoo Concealer was a favorite of Carla’s this year. If this multi-tasking concealer is good enough to cover up Miss Von D’s tattoos, imagine what it can hide on your complexion?

We were wowed by Benefit Hello Flawless and Benefit Erase Paste. Together, the two create a flawless (uh, pun intended!) canvas. Plus, Benefit’s packaging and marketing is top-notch, don’t you think? We always look forward to seeing what they’re bringing next.

We fell hard for Dior Nude Skin Foundation and NARS Sheer Glow Foundation, both giving excellent, buildable coverage without looking like we’re wearing foundation or irritating our sensitive skin.

The standout of MAC’s Colour Ready collection, Prep & Prime Transparent Finishing Powder Powder, is our pick for best powder of 2009. This stuff is the perfect finisher to foundation and helps set our faces without mattifying us completely. And it’s part of the permanent line, thank you MAC… a few swipes of this with a brush and our pores are instantly minimized.

TheBalm Sexy Mama helped keep Carla’s skin shine free the year before so she re-upped and kept with it in 2009.  The adorable pinup girl may reel you in but this translucent powder is bringing sexy matte without caking.

We have a major thing for highlighters here at Product Girl HQ. Major. We could probably change the name of this blog to Highlighter Girl and get along just fine. But even we have our favorites. Bobbi Brown’s Nude Shimmer Brick may just be the best Shimmer Brick of all time. This gives that “lit from within” glow and is so easy to wear. It’s love. One of our most recent favorites, Le Tissage de Lames Chanel imparts a brightening gold sheen and is our pick for most luxurious.

Benefit’s One Hot Minute has been a revelation to us this year. Take your pick, use it as a bronzer or use it as a highligher, the gorgeous rose gold shimmer can work as either on a variety of skin tones. And how cute is the tin? Loving it…

MAC’s Rose Romance collection made a dent in our wallets and included an amazing cheek stain – Just a Pinch Gel Blush. It’s a sheer rosy red that gives a natural flush to cheeks. We would so looove to see more of these released! What do you say, MAC? Will we see more?

Another MAC blush that captured hearts in ’09 was The Perfect Cheek, released with MAC’s Fall launch, Make Up Art Cosmetics. It’s a tricky line a fair-skinned girl walks when wearing nude blushes (mud alert), but this has the right amount of pink in it to make it well, perfect. (Full of puns today, loud and proud!)

Ok, this is the last time we’ll mention the Trish McEvoy Voyager Beauty Emergency Card or Trish McEvoy… this year. :) We can’t help it, we really, really love it. Pictures really don’t do this little set justice, if your local counter still has it, you need to snap this up… for cuteness sake.

We made some big claims about Dior’s Smoky Crystal quint earlier this month, and we stand by them! These shadows are incredibly smooth and every color in this palette is stunning.

Bobbi Brown has had some great releases this year but one of our favorites is the Bobbi Brown Brights Eye Palette. We love seeing Bobbi show us bolder color and this palette definitely had plenty of that.

Now it’s your turn. What lit up your face in 2009? Any palettes that you can’t get enough of?  Share in the comments!

Product Girl 2009 Favorite Beauty Products – Lips & Eyes

Happy New Year to all of our readers! Are you ready to say goodbye to the ’00 decade? We’re gearing up for an exciting year here at Product Girl, but first we need to talk about the best and greatest beauty that 2009 had to offer… and a few products we brought with us into the new year from 2008. We’re starting it all off with our favorite lip and eye products.

Remember when we first talked about Obsessive Compulsive Lip Tars? If you haven’t tried them yet, you’re really missing out. With these liquid lip colors, you can play makeup artist and create a custom shade just for you.

CoverGirl Outlast Lip Stains stole our heart this year. With their great range of shades and their wallet friendly price, they are so hard to resist! Plus the felt tip point to these stains do double duty as lip color and lip liner. Did you pick some up this year?

Continuing on with the liquid lip color, Chanel Rouge Allure Laque was a big hit with us this year. This one delivers on all fronts; long lasting, richly pigmented and feels weightless on the lips. Plus it looks oh so glamorous in your makeup up.

Laura Mercier Lip Velvet is the last liquid lip color we’ll badger you with. Laura Mercier’s is a little different from the Chanel Rouge Allure Lacque, it goes on a bit thicker but feels so cushy on and gives the same long lasting, richly pigmented color that we love.

We have gotten well acquainted with Lipstick Queen Chinatown Glossy Pencils this year. They have been my go-to lip color when I don’t feel like wearing a lot of color and/or dealing with a lip gloss. As I mentioned, it does a great job of giving me sheer color and keeping my lips moist.

Shu Uemura’s Rouge Unlimited Supreme Shine is a major fave around here. I know, we keep telling you.  But this formula stands out in a big way with it’s moisturizing properties and dewy shine. Once you try it, we think you’ll be in love with it just like we are.

We think Stila really shined with its Smudge Pots this year, especially the Stila Kitten Smudge Pot. It’s shimmery champagne goodness is the perfect eye base and brightener. It might be our favorite of the whole “kitten” family.

NARS Brumes Eyeshadow duo is meant for blue-eyed girls! It consists of the most smooth matte charcoal and shimmery blue slate colors, and makes for an amazing smokey eye that really pops.

The Style Black collection was a highlight for us this year – the Greasepaint Stick especially. It’s a great base, a great liner and it performs! No smudging – unless you want it to! –  and it even has a built-in sharpener, which is perfect when you want to get a finer tip to line.

For as many mascaras as we try, Cover Girl Lash Blast seems to always have a home in our makeup bag. It delivers consistent results and plumps up our lashes effortlessly.

Now you tell us, what are your favorite eye and lip products of 2009?

Finding the best facial moisturizer for your skin will help reduce the appearance of wrinkles. You can usually find the lowest prices for beauty products through online shopping. A good juicer is also a good thing to have to improve your skin health.

Flavor of the Month: Cranberry

Our flavor of the month for December is cranberry… it’s always appropriate around the holidays, right? Here’s what we have been enjoying this month.

  • MAC Cranberry Eyeshadow – this eyeshadow is old school MAC at its finest. This is one of MAC’s oldest shades (it is the one in the middle seen above in my old palette) they have and it is just simply gorgeous. It is a red plum shade with a pink shimmer. I love this packed on lower lid and blended out towards the crease… so pretty!
  • MyChelle White Cranberry Cleanser – I picked up a MyChelle sampler box awhile back and this cleanser was one of the products I ended up picking up out of the samples I tried. This cleanser from the all natural line is not harsh on my skin even though it has glycolic, azelaic and salicylic acids in it.
  • Glade Fragrance Collection Pomegranate & Cranberry Candle – I’ve been burning these candles all month long and it put me in the festive spirit! The candle burns evenly and the scent fills the room without being overwhelming. Plus it is a bargain! I received a sample and wanted to keep it going all month long so it has been easy on my wallet. It is available in a reed diffuser as well.
  • Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1 in Cranberry – we stockpile this lip balm in the winter and cranberry is in regular rotation! It’s got a light scent, not too overpowering and works like a charm. Seriously, this lip balm creates a barrier between your lips and the wind, cold and other weather harshness. It absorbs slowly into your lips and makes them soft. And even though the balm consistency isn’t sticky, it’s very long-lasting. Laurie’s threshold is if it survives her morning commute…and it does!
  • The Body Shop Merry Cranberry Frosted Shimmer Lotion – this lotion is such a delight! If you’re not careful, shimmery lotions can either give that  tin-man effect or transfer to clothes. But not this stuff. It’s got a silvery sheen to it that translates as a glow on your skin. The smell is very festive and wintery, like a subtle candied cranberry. We’re all for brightening up our skin in the winter!

What are your cranberry picks? Let us know in the comments.

Dolce & Gabbana Golden Beams Collection

Have you checked out the Dolce & Gabbana makeup line yet? Sadly, I have not…you all know about my anti-online shopping rule and the line is only available in Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami and New York. But I long the for the day when we can meet… it won’t be long. ;)

The Golden Beams collection was introduced for the holidays and it is all about bringing the sexy back. The key look is a seductive shimmer that plays with matte neutrals and golds to create a complete face that is polished and luxurious… perfect for an evening like New Year’s Eve.

Trish McEvoy All About Eyes Eyeshadows

And now for the last bit of Trish McEvoy news I have to share with you… the line is introducing new “All About Eyes” eyeshadows. They are a trio of eyeshadows full of sparkle to light and enhance the eyes. The release date I’m given is January 10th but with the delay with the release of the Demure collection, it may a bit longer than that. Or maybe they’ll be released together. At least that is what I’m hoping for.

I have yet to see these in person, I have only seen the images I’m showing you here but don’t the shades look like fun? I can’t wait to checkout Crystal Lame. These eyeshadows do not come with the compact though, that is sold separately. What do you think? Will you be checking these eyeshadows out?

Trish McEvoy Demure Collection

The Trish McEvoy Demure collection will be hitting counters soon and I cannot wait to see it in person. The information I received said they should be on counters already but I guess it will be another week or so. I can be patient for a little longer, I supose.

This collection features new lip color, a new Eye Base Essential shade (yes!) and two All Over Face Colors. The powders in this collection are available in page or compact formats.  I love building new pages for my planner but haven’t had a reason to start one yet. This new Demure collection will be my excuse. ;)

Here’s what is in this collection:

  • Translucent Finishing Powder – colorless finishing powder for all skin tones.
  • Gorgeous Lip Color in Demure – universally-flattering barely there shade.
  • Irresistible Pink Lip Gloss – lip enhancing formula is lightly flecked with light and delivers a radiant finish.
  • Demure Eye Base Essentials – eye brightener and shadow primer with a dose of  radiance in the perfect pink base.
  • All Over Face Color – multi-tasking face, eye and lip-enhancing luminous cream color delivers instant radiance, available in London or St. Tropez.

Are you a Trish gal? Any of this making its way to your planner? Let us know what’s in your planner in the comments.

Trish McEvoy The Power of Skincare Collection

As much as I love Trish McEvoy, I have yet to try her skincare but I’m definitely considering it now. Laurie let me know about this Trish McEvoy The Power of Skincare Collection and I’m thinking this would be a good way to get started with her skincare. Trish McEvoy is married to a dermatologist after all, so I’m imagining the skincare from her line would be decent, to say the least. Here’s what’s in this collection:

  • Full size Beauty Booster Serum
  • Full size Even Skin™ Beta Hydroxy Pads
  • Treatment Foundation SPF 15 Beige, 5 ml
  • Protective Shield SPF 15 Moisturizer, 1⁄2 oz
  • Gentle Cleansing Wash, 1⁄2 oz
  • #9 Blackberry & Vanilla Musk
  • Super Enriched Body Cream, 1⁄2 oz
  • Beauty Booster Cream, 1⁄2 oz
  • 2 Empty, refillable travel containers
  • Signature turquoise skincare bag

So what do you think? Yay or nay? I have tried the Beauty Booster Serum a few times and liked it. By the way, if you’re a Trish gal like I am, check out Beauty411’s interview with Trish McEvoy! There’s more Trish goodness to come later today.
