It’s here! The MAC Magic, Mirth and Mischielf holiday collection is finally here! The collection arrived at MAC counters last Thursday and with all the gift sets and palettes that go along with it, it is massive ladies. It features some new limited edition shades and some repromotes from prior collections but my personal opinion is that you cannot go wrong whenever Pervette is in the mix… I wore that shade to my prom in ’96.
During a recent trip to Sephora for a little beauty recon, I noticed the new NARS mascaras on display. NARS recently introduced two new mascaras: NARS Larger than Life Volumizing Mascara and NARS Larger than Life Lengthening Mascara. For a minute, I thought about picking one of them up but I thought I’d ask all of you for your thoughts on them first. Have you tried either of these mascaras? A gal at NARS tells me she actually uses both of them, the Larger than Life Lengthening Mascara first then Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara second.
I’m thinking these may be good for the Sephora Friends and Family sale going on right now (use code FF2009 during checkout until November 2nd for 20% off). Have you picked up any items from this sale?
This week, we’re going to be taking a closer look at perfume – some new, some you may know of already and some we hope you’ll want to discover!
Fragrance is very personal– and what works for some will not necessarily work for everyone. But one of those scents that I find to be so delicate is Donna Karan’s Cashmere Mist. For me, this fragrance balances scents that can be strong and seductive and presents them in a soft, flattering manner. Cashmere Mist combines essences of Moroccan jasmine, lily of the valley and bergamot against a warm background of sandalwood, amber and musk.
And Donna Karan released a limited edition Cashmere Mist Eau de Parfum spray for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The bottle and carton both include a pink ribbon deco in support, and Donna Karan Cosmetics will donate $15,000 in connection with sales of this product to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
You can find this at department stores or online. Also, as a frequent Sephora and Beauty.com shopper, I’ve seen this fragrance and lotion available as a sample at checkout many times. Be on the lookout– it’s a great way to test out fragrances!
Do you love Viva Glam as much as I do? I look forward to a new Viva Glam palette every year, it’s become a ritual for me. I’d love to see a big palette with every Viva Glam lipstick and lipgloss shade out there but for now, we have the MAC Cosmetics Miracles Happen Viva Glam Lip Kit that just hit counters this past Thursday to hold us over. This palette includes Viva Glam V lipstick (a neutral pink with pearl), Viva Glam VI lipstick (terracotta-plum with pearl) and Viva Glam V Lipglass (neutral pink with pearl). If you’re looking for a lip palette that will flatter practically everyone, this one is it. Don’t forget that every cent of the sale price goes to the MAC AIDS Fund!
Check back with us over the next few days as we cover the newest holiday releases from MAC: Baroque Boudoir and Magic, Mirth and Mischief.
A common myth is that those of us with oily skin can’t use oil-based cleansers. Quite the contrary. I used to be of the school of thought that using an oil cleanser would take me to breakout city, but I am now a believer. And the man that got me there goes by the name of Francois. Francois NARS!
I went to the Nordstrom Fall Trend show in Chicago last month and the NARS makeup artist used the new Makeup Cleansing Oil as a first step. Admittedly, I was nervous but it felt great on my skin and I was easily distracted by the gorgeous swatch of Mekong that I’d swiped on my hand before I sat in the chair.
I ended up purchasing the Cleansing Oil after my makeover (along with the gorgeous Mekong!), and I haven’t looked back since. It’s meant to be a first-step in the cleansing process as it breaks down makeup and excess oil on your skin, improving clarity and softening skin. Basically, it removes any trace of makeup from your pores whatsoever and leaves no oily residue behind. It can be used on eyes, face, lips, on wet or dry skin and is a true miracle worker.
It’s not cheap at $40, but for that price you get a massive amount of product – 6.7 oz. For the past month, I’ve used about one-two pumps daily and I haven’t even made a dent in the bottle. In my book, that’s a smart splurge!
I’ve noticed an improvement in my skin and I think it is because my skin is getting a deeper, yet softer, cleanse.
NARS Makeup Cleansing Oil is available at NARS counters and on their Web site.

How is your Sunday going? We’ve been spending the weekend with Chanel and getting to know it’s current releases. Today we’re taking a look at the new Rouge Allure Laque Lip and Nail Color Collection on counters now. It introduces the new Rouge Allure Laque liquid lip color along with three new Rouge Allure Luminous Satin Lipcolor shades and four new Les Vernis Nail Colours.
And here’s another Chanel collection for us to get to know tonight, this is Chanel’s Noirs Obscurs collection. Dark hues are back this season and MAC is not the only line that knows it. Chanel’s Global Create Director Peter Philips created a collection to pay tribute to black with on trend eye, lip and nail shades that uncover the many nuances and undertones of this iconic shade. When worn together, the shades in this collection are definitely daring, but wearing them solely on the eye, lips or nails may be more of your cup of tea. You can find this collection on counters now.
We’re spending the weekend with Chanel! Last night I mentioned how much I want Chanel’s Paris New York palette and for the rest of the weekend we’ll be taking a look at what’s new in makeup from the house of Chanel. Today we’re taking a look at the new Holiday collection coming up in November…let’s start the countdown now, I’m dying to get my hands on some of this.
This Chanel Holiday collection was inspired by Gabrielle Chanel’s fascination with the brilliant plumage of exotic birds. Their lush beauty is captured in an enchanting holiday collection with shades of flamingo pink and peacock blue – accented with shimmering tones of green-gold, copper and teal.
This weekend we are spending it getting cozy with Chanel’s newest releases and we’re starting it this evening with this Chanel Paris New York Multi-Use Makeup Palette. It makes me weak in the knees just looking at it. I have developed a serious soft spot for Chanel palettes and I’m thinking I’ll finally take this one home with me next Friday… I’m making it my birthday gift to myself. Everyone deserves a Chanel palette on their 31st birthday, don’t they?
This palette was especially created for the US and it includes two cream concealers, two lip glosses, one cream lip colour, one cream blush and three powder eyeshadows. Granted, the concealers are not going to work for everyone but I’m loving this palette because these are “Carla” colors, the kind of shades I could see myself wearing everyday if I had to.
It would make a great travel palette too. My makeup was not so hot the last time I traveled because I didn’t bring the right things with me. If I had this little gem of a palette, my decision would be oh so easy.
