Happy Halloween to everyone! Don’t you love that Halloween falls on a Saturday this year? In honor of today, I’m injecting a little Halloween into my beauty routine. First up? A bubble bath with Philosophy Trick or Treat.
Philosophy is the master of creating seasonal scents that work. They aren’t overly fragrant or indulgent. They’re just right. And the Trick or Treat duo contains two scents that capture this time of year perfectly, Pumpkin Spice and Caramel Apple. Literally, these scents are autumn in a bottle. But, beware, side effects are increased desire to bake, rake leaves and constantly smell yourself. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
Still in need of some Halloween inspiration? Shu Uemura has some great looks that you may want to check out. There are three looks created by Shu Uemura’s makeup artists that are meant to be emulated by us at home. So if you’ve got the skills, the time and the need for a sassy Shu-inspired costume, look no further!
Of the three, my favorite is the Yuki-Onna created by artist Misumi Kitano.
This is one bad chick – she’s the opposite of an ice princess. I think this would be a fun look to recreate and would work well if you wore all-white. I think people would get what you were going for with this look.
And Shu Uemura also has a special Halloween offer going on right now, through October 31. With any $75 online purchase, you’ll receive a complimentary pair of false eyelashes by entering promo code HALLOWEEN at checkout.
Anyone doing anything fun for Halloween this weekend? I’m going trick or treating with my nieces and nephews and bringing my puppy, who will be dressed as a bumble bee. I couldn’t resist – a Boston Terrier in a bumble bee costume? Too cute for words!
Who wants more MAC holiday? We sure do! We’re bringing you the scoop on the Magic, Mirth & Mischief face, eye and lip bags. Just as the rest of the collection, these are absolutely gorgeous and feature some of MAC’s bestselling products.

I always look forward to these kits, because they’re a great way to get started! I bought a brush set for my Mom from last year’s holiday collection, and now she’s a full-blown brush addict. Admittedly, I’m sort of a brush pusher. But, hey – tools matter! This year, I’m eyeing up the Naughty Noir Eye Bag and the Put a Spell on You Pink Lip Bag.
What do you have your eye on? Has anyone had a chance to see this in person yet?
Today Mally Roncal, the gorgeous and inspiring makeup artist behind Mally Beauty, is introducing her first perfume. The Mally Beauty Fragrance is just what you would expect from Mally, it’s refreshing and bubbly just like Mally. The fragrance also pays homage to Mally’s heritage using the Sampaguita flower – the national flower of the Philippines.
I’ll tell you a little more about this fragrance next week once I recover from this flu I’ve been hit with this week and can actually smell things more clearly!

Ladies, pay attention! This Splurge vs. Steal has us a little excited over in Product Girl land. The contenders: Guerlain Meteorites and Victoria’s Secret Luminous Face Powder Gems.
Guerlain Meteorites could be considered by some to be the makeup equivalent of one of the seven wonders of the world. They packaging is to die and so is the product itself. They are powdered pearls that work to give you a perfect complexion by brightening, lightening and evening your skin tone. And don’t even get me started on the beauty of the Meteorites that Guerlain released with their 2009 holiday collection. Suffice it to say, they are on my wish list big-time. But at $53, we’re definitely in splurge territory.
Next we have the Victoria’s Secret Luminous Face Powder Gems from the new Heidi Klum Exotic Jewels collection. These are also illuminating powder pearls that brighten your skin tone and give you that lit-from-within glow. The pearls are a mix of plum, pink and gold – and on my fair skin tone, are best used as a blush. At $22, these are a steal! I picked these up last week and have been wearing it as a blush daily. I am in love with this product – it gives my cheeks a rosy glow and the packaging is gorgeous. It’s a sturdy cardboard and the pattern is, as the collection indicates, very exotic.
The final verdict? Both of these products are amazing – but the Victoria’s Secret Face Powder Gems are a steal! Have you tried either? Share your thoughts below!
As a beauty product junkie, I’ll admit (gasp!) that there are some things that I don’t need…per say. Products that are amazing and once I use them I absolutely can’t imagine life without them. One such example is Fresh’s Rose Marigold Tonic Water. It’s a facial spray that contains purifying and softening botanical extracts to hydrate your skin.
I bought this on a hot summer day because I wanted something to freshen my face mid-day. But I use this product all the time! After I wash my face, before I head out for the day or just anytime I feel like my skin is dry and needs a perk. And, just right now, because writing about it warranted a spritz! I absolutely love it. It smells awesome and makes my skin feel great.
Fresh never disappoints me and has a way of making me “need” things that I never knew I, well, needed.
October is winding down, but there’s still one week left to check out some of the special Breast Cancer Awareness beauty products available. Today, we’re showing you another limited-edition offering from Clinique – the iconic Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion, available in a jumbo-sized (6.7 oz!) bottle featuring a pink ribbon and “C” charm.
Did you know that one bottle of this lotion is sold every five seconds? I’m pretty sure that at some point in our lives, we’ve all used this product. It was one of my first makeup purchases as a teenager – I used the three-step system from aged 13-16! And actually, my husband is a big fan of this moisturizer still. He’s got little bottles of this stashed all over the place – his dop kit, nighstand, briefcase, etc.
This bottle can be found on Clinique.com, and $10 from every lotion sold in October will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Confession: I love aerosol hairsprays. I know they do emit some pretty effective greenhouse gases into the ozone and that they may not always have Mother Earth’s best interests in mind, but I still love them. The green in me has an internal struggle like this nearly every day!
Helping me get over that is Bumble and Bumble, who will donate $1.00 from every can of Classic Hairspray sold on their Web site and in their two NYC salons this month (and last!) to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Bumble and Bumble’s Classic Hairspray is good stuff. That aerosol gets the job done – adding sheen to your hair and smoothing flyaways. It also can be brushed out pretty easily without messing up your do. And it smells great!
It’s a splurge – but it does come in two sizes, $12 for 4oz. and $21 for 10oz. I don’t require a ton of hair spray, so a can lasts me a long time. And lessens my impact on the environment…right?
Clinique introduced a few new products in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, one of which is the Lipgloss Key Chain, featuring three mini shades of the Long Last Glosswear SPF 15: Air Kiss, Kissyfit and Whisper.
I am a huge fan of the Long Last Glosswear – it lives up to its name. This is a very smooth gloss that goes on a little heavier, which helps with the staying power. I like the consistency, but not everyone does.
This is a really cute product – one I would absolutely give to all of my nieces (age 13, 7 and 6!) I can just picture them toting this around clipped onto their purses. And they totally would, they are girly girls and love when their auntie gets them makeup.
Clinique will donate $10 per Lipgloss Key Chain purchased in October to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
