This Friday is the 4th anniversary of Product Girl’s very first post! When I started blogging about beauty products almost 4 years ago, it was because I wanted to share my love for the beauty finds I was picking up. I had no idea that Product Girl would be such a life changing experience, but it has. It’s taken me to Paris, it’s taken me to New York, it’s helped me realize what I want to do with my life and it even introduced me to my best friend.
To celebrate everything that Product Girl has given me, I’m hosting 7 giveaways starting on Friday to beautify you from head to toe. We’ll be doing 1 giveaway a day so stay with us throughout the week. Check out what we’re giving away!
Entering each giveaway will be super easy, all you need to do is send me an email but hold your horses…I’ll let you know the details for that on Friday.
For now, I want to say thank you to you for reading my ramblings over the years and I want to say thank you to Living Proof, Philosophy, Kenzo, Barielle, Mario Badescu, Cover FX, Stila and Casa di Francesca for working with me to share some of my favorite products with you… and do me a favor and help spread the word about our giveaways.
Actress Vanessa Hudgens is Allure’s October 2009 cover girl and while the issue is not yet on the stands, you can go behind the scenes at Vanessa’s cover shoot in Long Beach, NY and learn more about her style transformation.
I’m excited to get this issue in the mail, the Best of Beauty issue always inspires a few purchases. Allure’s October 2009 issue hits newstands on September 22nd.
MAC Cosmetics collaborated with Jin Soon, the much sought-after nail guru, to create the Nail Trend F/w ’09 collection. It includes 6 shades of nail polish exclusive to MAC for the fall. One of the shades, Beyond Jealous, is the green shade seen on models nails at the Doo.Ri Fall/Winter 2009 show.
I’m loving these shades… especially Dance All Night, you know, because it’s red. Since my nail biting habit has been nipped in the bud, I’m sporting color on my nails more than ever and these bold hues are fantastic. Dry Martini also has a special place in my heart. I’m not the green fanatic my friend Michelle is, but I’ve developed an appreciation for them. Colors in this collection include:
- Cool Reserve – dirty grey lavender
- For Fun – rich clean purple
- Dance All Night – brick red
- Beyond Jealous – blackened blue green
- Dry Martini – khaki olive green
- Rich, Dark, Delicious – rich blackened brown
So what shade have you picked up? I’m not too wild about browns in general so I passed on that but I have no problem with the rest of the shade. Let me know what you picked up in the comments.
This just in… Beyonce rocked the MTV Video Music Awards last night (didn’t she look like a goddess?) and in the spring, you can rock her new perfume. Beyonce Knowles has just signed a deal with Coty Inc. to produce her own perfume, according to Women’s Wear Daily. The fragrance is scheduled to launch in spring in the Americas and worldwide in fall 2010.
While she may have been the face of perfumes by Tommy Hilfiger and Emporio Armani, this is Beyonce’s first foray into creating her own perfume and she’ll be doing it with the same company who started the whole celebrity perfume craze back with J-Lo in 2002. Coty’s line up of celebrity perfumes now includes Jennifer Lopez, Halle Berry, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Sarah Jessica Parker, Gwen Stefani, Celine Dion, Kylie Minogue, Kimora Lee Simmons, Kate Moss, Shania Twain, Victoria Beckham and David Beckham.
In addition to a huge advertising campaign, Beyonce will do personal appearances to support the fragrance. She says:
For me, fragrance reflects a woman’s attitude and unique sense of style. While I love various perfumes, I haven’t found a scent that truly personifies me as a woman. Working with Coty, I was able to turn my ideal fragrance into a reality by creating an alluring and sophisticated fragrance; one that’s reflective of my inner power.
This might be a perfume I would actually buy… if Oprah thinks Jay-Z is the best smelling man in the world, can you imagine what her idea fragrance would be?
I have to be honest, I really thought a whole line of makeup based on Twilight was a bad idea but once I started seeing the items on the Twilight Beauty website, I started changing my tune… some of the products look kind of interesting, do they not? When I found Twilight Venom at Nordstrom, I gave in to my Twilight obsession just a little more.
Not all is well in the land of Twilight Beauty though. As you can see in the image here, the color separates from the product and stays that way unless you shake the vial well, I mean really well. Even when taking the applicator out of the vial and applying it on the lips, the color still remains in beads even though the brush looks to be saturated with color. This makes it difficult to have an even application of the stain. Another issue here; Venom has a big bite! The cinnamon in Venom is fiery and it’s almost uncomfortable on my lips. I don’t remember Duwop’s Lip Venom feeling this uncomfortable to wear. Maybe that’s what it’s really like when a vampire’s venom is on your lips. 😉
Call me crazy but even in spite of the uneven application and the product almost setting my lips on fire, I still hold out hope for the rest of the Twilight Beauty line. The Mortal Glow Blushing Crème and Luna Color Palettes, creme blushes and palettes are my kind of candy.
Have you checked this out yet? What do you think? let me know in the comments.
When I was little, I use to put glue all over my hands just to let it dry and peel it off. There was something about peeling the glue of my hands that I really enjoyed. You did this too, come on… admit it. Sula’s Paint ‘n’ Peel Nail Polish is like the glue equivalent for your nails but this is much more fun and prettier to look at.
Every time I walk by the Sula display at Ulta, I can’t help but admire all the shades. The shades do not have any shimmer in them but that’s ok, there’s a metallic top coat available to glam up your nails. I’m ok without that though, the creamy colors are enough for me, they are eye candy in a bottle!
Have you checked out The Fairest yet? No? Oh you are missing out on some truly good beauty shopping. How does 50% off your favorite beauty brands sound? It at least makes you want to look…right? If you love Hautelook and Gilt, you’re going to love this because it’s all beauty 24/7.
The Fairest is a new beauty discount site. It just launched last Monday and has already hosted some amazing sales including Stila, Jurlique, Butter London, COOLA Suncare and Mor. Right now there is are great Tarte (ends soon!) and Korres sales going on and then is Juara is coming soon. As an added perk, earn $10 for every friend you refer after they make a purchase.
My friend Michelle from All Lacquered Up is on fire, I tell you. In July she revealed her Rescue Beauty Lounge collaboration named Mismas. This gorgeous deep purple creme shade was even featured in Allure! Then later she revealed swatches for her collaboration with Barielle for the Shades by Barielle All Lacquered collection. Her shade U Concrete Me featured in US Weekly last week. She’s inspired me to add “have shade named after you” to my list of things to do. 😉
This is a gorgeous collection of nail color. Michelle worked with celebrity manicurist Elle to release collection of runway inspired shades. There is something for everyone here from cremes, chunky glitters to pearl shimmers. I’m not the nail color expert Michelle is but when I apply these colors, I truly see a difference in comparison to the formulas from the shades I normally turn to. The colors are all rich and go on smoothly. Take a closer look at some of the shades I tried:
At any given time, I have about 5 hand creams and maybe 8 to 10 lip balms in my desk drawer at work so this made me wonder… what do my fellow Daily Makeover Beauty Bloggerati have in their desks? I’ll tell you.
Erika from Makeup Bag’s at work must have is Fresh’s Sugar Lip Treatment. She applies and re-applies this all day long.
Lisa at These Lips Were Made for Glossin’ wouldn’t be complete without her Fresh Sugar Rose Lip Treatment, YSL Touche Eclat in Luminous Ivory, water and her Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in Snow for when she needs a touch up.
Megan with Beauty on a Dime keeps her EOS Smooth Sphere Summer Fruit Lip Balm at hand to keep her lips soft and yummy, her Dr. Brandt Spot Blotter and Concealer for those deadline-induced stress breakouts and Yes To Carrots Hand & Elbow Cream to keep her hard-typing digits nice and soft.
Paul at Beyond Beauty Basics keeps a tube of Save the Males from Origins for Men in his desk at work to keep the air in his office from drying out his skin.
Tammy at A Mom in Red High Heels keeps hydrated and awake while she works. Bioelements Instant Emollient Lip Balm keeps her lips smooth, Kathy Ireland Hydrating Body Lotion in Green Tea & Aloe Vera keeps her hands moisturized without feeling greasy (and the smell is refreshing), Kerstin Florian Spa Face Aromatherapy Neoli Water is her quick refresher for her face and Belli Motherhood Eye Brightening Cream hydrates her eyes and helps reduce puffiness and under eye circles.
Sarah at Hair Thursday can’t live without her Kiehl’s Lip Gloss in Goldenberry, it’s moisturizing, non-sticky and the perfect daytime color.
Amber at Beauty Blogging Junkie keeps her Fresh Sugar Rose Lip Treatment SPF 15 and By Terry Rose Balm Gloss on hand for her lips, touches up her under eye area with Cle de Peau Concealer, glosses her lips with Stila Cranberry Lip Glaze, uses Philosophy Lemonade Scented Hand Cream, keeps some Maybelline Pulse Perfection at work for those days when she forget mascara and uses the new NARS Multiple in Luxor (a new Multiple that’s a shimmery pink/white) for perfect for highlighting or using as eyeshadow in a pinch.
Julia at All About the Pretty loves hand creams from Juara Skincare and Jurlique, Darphin Lip Balm, some EO Antibacterial Spray in Lavender and a Paddywax Soy Candle in Mint Mojito.
Bailey from Makeover Momma loves her Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals Foundation because she applies it once and it doesn’t budge all day and she uses their Skin Rever-Upper as a primer along with it. She also loves the Eucerin Redness Relief Pen, because it works to conceal “flushed” areas or flared pimples. But her #1 most used product is Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Swivel Stick, it looks like a giant gluestick but it hydrates any area of skin and makes for the best chapstick ever!
Daneen at Spoiled Pretty also relies on Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Swivel Stick to keep lips soft and hydrated all day. It only costs a couple of bucks; so she keeps one at the office, one in her handbag and one at home. She also has a mini tube of Bath & Body Works Anti-Bacterial Moisturizing Hand Lotion (in Warm Vanilla Sugar) stashed in her desk drawer to moisturize without leaving her keyboard and mouse greasy.
Marlena at Makeup Geek likes using Korres Lip Butter to keep lips moist and add a little color. Doesn’t hurt that it smells good too. She also love’s Bath & Body Works Lay It On Thick Intense Moisture Shea Body Cream.
Marta at Talking Makeup keeps it pretty with Giorgio Armani High Precision Retouch and Giorgio Armani Master Corrector for under eye dark circles, Clinique Superbalanced Powder Makeup SPF 15 Mineral Rich Formula to perk up her complexion in a hurry, Christian Siriano for VS Makeup Lipgloss in Sublime for a gorgeous sheer coral lip, DiorShow Brow Styler to reign in her brows and MAC Minerlize Skinfinish in Blonde to put some color on her cheeks.
What do you keep at work in your desk? I want to know… let me know in the comments!
Speaking of Smudge Pots, Stila has also released 2 new Smudge Pots: Kitten and Black Cat. Kitten, as you may have guessed is a play on Stila’s best selling eyeshadow Kitten.
Have you ever seen Mally Roncal on QVC show you how smudge proof her liners and shadows are? She’s so adorable as she rubs her fingers over the product furiously to show the audience how the product is not budging. I did the same test at my local Ulta and this Smudge Pot passed the smudge test, I may have had a little shimmer on my fingers but the product on my hand did. not. move.
Just like the Barbie Loves Stila’s Little Black Dress Smudge Pot, Black Cat is not as one dimensional as it seems. As I mentioned, Black Cat is a play on Kitten so it has some of the shadow blended into it. What you get when you actually use the product is gorgeous as the Kitten sparkles on the eye. Unfortunately, my Ulta has been out of stock of both of these shades but I’m told as soon as it comes in, there will be Kitten and Black Cat Smudge Pots with my name on them just waiting for me to bring them home. You can find Smudge Pots at Stila displays and online.
Have you tried a Stila Smudge Pot? What’s your favorite shade? I’m dying to try Jade. Tell us about it in the comments.
