Red Carpet Beauty: Angelina Jolie at the Oscars

Angelina Jolie looked dazzling yesterday, did she not? I loved the dress, loved the makeup, loved the hair but most of all, I loved her jewelry. It’ wasn’t overkill and gave her look the right amount of pop. Beautiful!

Here’s the scoop straight from Lancome:

Angelina Jolie looked stunning in a black strapless Elie Saab gown paired with beautiful emerald-colored jewels which added a striking burst of color. Celebrity makeup artist Mary Burton created Angelina’s flawless look. Mary applied Le Crayon Khôl in Black Ebony to the upper and lower lash lines. She emphasized the shape of Angelina’s eyes by applying more liner to the outer corners of the eye. Several coats of Ôscillation Mascara were applied to the upper lashes for added volume and length. Mary put a touch of pink to the cheeks using Shu Uemura Blush in M Pink 31 and applied it to her cheekbones near the temple. To create ultra-shiny and luminous lips, Mary used Juicy Tubes in Spring Fling.

New! Dior Parisian Nude Spring 2009 Collection

Also now in stores is the new Parisian Nude color collection from Dior for spring 2009. It features more neutral shades than we have been seeing from other collections for spring but that’s definitely fine by me, these kinds of shades are always welcome in my makeup bag. 🙂

The star product in this collection is the Lady Dior handbag duo. It features a highlighter and a creamy tint for both lips and cheeks. The one available at Dior counters is French Chic and Sephora has the exclusive Parienne Chic. This compact actually has a clasp on it so you can attach it to your actual handbag. How gorgeous is this?

This collection also features some beautiful eyeshadows, lip colors and nail polishes that are worth looking at:

  • 2-Colour Eyeshadow in Nude Look #365 (Not in Sephora)
  • 5-Colour Iridescent Eyeshadow in Parisian Lights #559
  • 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Elegante #553
  • Crayon Eyeliner in Elegant Taupe #063

  • Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss Reflect in Trenchcoat Beige #137
  • Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss Reflect in Ribbon Beige #447
  • Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss Reflect in Clutch Pink #517
  • Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss Reflect in Satin Pink #657
  • Dior Addict High-Shine Lipstick in New Look Beige #220
  • Dior Addict High-Shine Lipstick in Couture Pink #260
  • Rouge Dior Lipstick in Rita Beige #298
  • Rouge Dior Lipstick in Actress Chestnut #632

  • Dior Vernis in Porcelain #189 (Non-Sephora doors)
  • Dior Vernis in Nude Chic #219 (Sephora only)

As much as it kills the collector in me, I’m not picking up the Lady Dior compact. I blame that on the recession. I am eying the eyeshadows but have to figure out which one to get, I’m a little torn. What I have picked up so far is the nail polish in Nude Chic. It’s a fantastic nude color for my fair skin. At least I didn’t have a problem deciding on that one. 🙂

How about you? Have you picked up anything from the Parisian Nude color collection from Dior? Or are you simply admiring it from afar? Let us know in the comments.

New! Trish McEvoy Power of Makeup Page for Spring 2009

I have a confession to make… I am officially in love with Trish McEvoy’s line. I had dabbled in it a little bit but when I ordered her planner with the gorgeous Power of Makeup page from her appearance on QVC back in December, it was the beginning of a real relationship.

I was going to talk about it here, just because this palette is great for everyone but when I went to check on QVC, sadly it was gone. There is good news though, the Power of Makeup page is coming back!  While you can no longer get the planner with the page, Trish McEvoy is releasing this universally flattering page as part of her Spring 2009 collection.

This palette has everything you need for eyes, lips and cheeks in beautiful wearable shades taking all the guess work out of picking coordinating colors, all the work is done for you. The shades in this palette include:

  • Eye Shadow in Shell, White Peach Glaze and Mocha
  • Lava Eye Definer
  • Matte Bronzer Light
  • Natural Blush
  • Nude Shimmer Pressed Powder
  • Simply Glamorous Lip Gloss

I can’t gush about this palette enough, I think it’s the perfect way to get acquainted with Trish McEvoy. If I were to build a page for my planner (something I am now obsessed with) these are the shades I would start out with, they are basic building blocks for a good color wardrobe.

The good news doesn’t stop there… We’ll be covering more of Trish McEvoy’s products this week and the next. We will also be giving away this gorgeous palette so make sure you check back with us next week! Or follow us on Twitter, we’ll let you enter early. 🙂

New! Bobbi Brown's Blushed Pink Collection

Bobbi Brown’s new Blushed Pink collection is such a great edition to all the spring collections we’re seeing for the upcoming season. I love how soft and pretty this look is but still manages to be fresh and lively. Gorgeous! It makes me wish I got to know the line much sooner than I did.

This collection features 4 new limited edition Sparkle Eyeshadows in Ballet, Silver Moon, Mica and Sunlight. The eyeshadow formula is a combination of shimmering pearls and glitter in a translucent base and is soft and creamy for long lasting wear. The pans can also be popped out of their compacts and inserted in Bobbi Brown’s customizable palettes.

If that’s not enough for you, 2 new matte brown shadows in Mink and Birch have been added to the permanent eyeshadow lineup as defining shades and Bobbi has introduced 3 lip products for her customizable palette. Nude Pink Lip Gloss, Baby Glitter Lip Gloss and Blush Pink Creamy Lip Color are now available on a limited edition basis.

I will be on my own this Valentine’s Day… no one available to wine and dine me except myself. I do have plans though. I plan on taking myself downtown, spending a little money, treating myself to a nice dinner then ending the night with a movie. If you’re treating yourself or someone else this Valentine’s Day, check out the NARS Love Set.

The NARS Love Set includes some of their best selling products. It includes Pillow Talk Lip Gloss, Sex Machine Velvet Matte Lip Pencil and Orgasm Blush… you see where this is going? 🙂 This set is $49 and is available now.

Comodynes Make-Up Remover for Combination and Oily Skin

I am addicted to towelettes, it’s a weird addiction, I know. 🙂 Like lip stains, I have to try the towelettes in whatever line I encounter them in. When I saw these Comodynes Make-Up Remover Towelettes for Combination and Oily Skin at Whole Foods, the addiction kicked in.

comodynes-makeup-remover-combo-oily-skin Being lured in by the hype I’ve heard about this line over the years, it was nice to learn that Comodynes Make-Up Remover Towelettes for Combination and Oily Skin are made from natural fibers, are alcohol free and hypoallergenic… it was also nice to see them in my area! I often complain about the Seattle area not getting all the interesting brands that other cities get. I guess we’re coming up in the world 🙂 They also contain Burdock, which has been known to treat skin problems such as eczema, acne, and psoriasis.

As for usage, I was surprised at how strongly scented these towelettes are, they smell a lot like a bar of Dove soap. I do not take issue with scents in products but for those gals who prefer their towelettes unscented, move on… this is not for you. Also, since they claim to be remove makeup on the face and eyes, I expected they would perform better than they did. Most of my skin was clean but the product on my eyes was mostly in tact and that was disappointing. Leaving some traces behind is to be expected but not even making a dent in removing my mascara is not good.

In the end, Comodynes Make-Up Remover Towelettes for Combination and Oily Skin didn’t do a whole lot for me. They left my skin feeling tight. For me, they make a better hand wipe than something I’d use to remove makeup and clean my face with which is why you’ll now find them in my bag. Boots no. 7 Quick Thinking 4-in-1 Wipes does a much better job and you get more product for about the same price.

MAC Cosmetics Hello Kitty Brushes & Accessories

What’s the most tempting part of the MAC Hello Kitty collection? The makeup or the accessories? For me, it’s hard to decide. The colors are definitely hard to resist but the accessories are just so adorable!

  • Black beaded bracelet with 3 charms; inspired by collaboration

  • Bag zipper clip with 2 charms inspired by collaboration; keychain and mini mirror.

  • Round plastic jar inspired by collaboration that holds 3 SE brushes with blank handles.
  • 187SE Duo Fibre Brush
  • 109SE Small Contour Brush
  • 239SE Eye Shade Brush

  • Compact inspired by collaboration; interior contains standard mirror on ONE side and magnifying mirror on alternate side.

  • 14″ plush doll in black, pink and white nylon.

  • Rectangular tote bag with collaboration inspired graphics and logo.

  • Small soft train case silhouette with full zip closure.

  • Medium soft train case silhouette with full zip closure.

  • Large soft train case silhouette with full zip closure. Fabric is black vinyl with pink and white collaboration logo.

So tell me, what’s on your shopping list? I really want the brush cup but I’m not really trying to pay $49.50 for a cup with brushes I already own even if they say Hello Kitty on them. 🙂 Otherwise, the vanity case is calling my name… it will be mine.
