When I was little and we’d go visit family in Portugal, my mother would buy me something on the flight from New York to Lisbon. I have a weakness for Swatch watches so every time we’d travel to my parents home, I’d get a Swatch. I thought of this during my return flight from Paris to Houston and thought I owed myself a grown up travel gift. That ended up being a Bobbi Brown Pink Shimmer Brick with Brush.
Now I know that I could have gotten this at home but I lured in by the brush! I picked this up for $42 US. When you compare that to it’s retail price of $38 for the compact alone and add in sales tax and perhaps shipping depending on how you purchase this, that’s a pretty good deal. Right? That’s what I told myself anyhow.
So what’s the moral of this story? Next time you’re on an international flight, make sure you check out what duty free items are available to you! Check back to see the travel palettes from Chanel, Guerlain and Lancome… those are the real lookers from my trip.
If you love Kiehl’s fragrances, you’re in for a treat. They are now introducing a new fragrance to their lineup: Forest Rain.
Kiehl’s new Forest Rain Eau de Toilette is a new unisex scent with spicy and woodsy tones to it. It features top notes of wet grass, muguet petals, citrus and guaic leaves, middle notes of damp moss, jasmine and white flowers thena dry down of sunbleached hay, cedarwood, vetiver and soft musk.
You can also find this new fragrance in Kiehl’s Bath and Shower Liquid Body Cleanser and their Hand and Body Lotion. When you layer each product on top of one another, the scent lasts you all day long. From time to time I layer their musk shower gel with the body lotion and love the lasting power of the scent when I use it this way. Remember, layering = lasting power!
I think a trip to Kiehl’s is now in order to check out this scent!
Want to go pink with your nails?
Nubar has you covered with their Oh Baby Pink Nail Lacquer. For every purchase of this product, the company will donate 10% of the proceeds to City of Hope for breast cancer research. Nubar’s nail lacquers are also formaldehyde, toluene and phthalate free for healthier, beautiful nails.
Looking for a little more pink? You can stay in the pink with their Support the Cure 4 Pack. This set features two pink nail colors in Pink Cami and Je’Taime, a base coat and a top coat. With this set, 10% of the retail price will go towards St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Cancer Treatment Research Foundation and the City of Hope.
I have yet to try Nubar’s line but I figure this is a great time to do that and support an important cause. How about you? Will you be giving this shade a try?
When I was in Paris, I had one rule when it came to making purchases… “can I buy this at home?” I didn’t bring a lot of money with me so I wanted the purchase I did make to be good ones.
For the most part I did pretty well with my purchases when I had this rule in mind. I caved on one item in the Paris airport duty free shop that I could have purchased at home, Chanel’s new Aqualumiere Gloss in Glass Quartz. My friends will tell you that it’s such a “Carla color” so I had to have it right then and there. The rest of my purchases were truly things I could not find at home.
Have you shopped pink in October yet? We haven’t either but that’s ok! We’re still in time and there are plenty of Pink products out there worth picking up to support the cause. We’ll be talking about these products from here on out for the month of October.
Here’s a product to get you off to a good start…
Philosophy’s Shower for the Cure Shower Gel will help get you get in a charitable mood from the moment you step into the shower. Every year Philosophy releases this shower gel and 100% of the net proceeds from this product are donated to the Women’s Cancer Research Fund. This shower gel’s scent is very different from the line’s infamous Amazing Grace or themed shower gels, this is a much stronger floral. Like the line’s other shower gels, this shower gel is also a shampoo and bubble bath.
In addition to the Shower for the Cure shower gel, Philosophy has also released She Colors My Day Bubble Bath and the She Colors My Day Duo.
This release also benefits the Women’s Cancer Research Fund. It was inspired by Philosophy founder Cristina Carlino’s daughter’s artwork and celebrates the special relationship between mother and daughter. The bubble bath features a clean, fresh scent and the duo includes a special keepsake gift and a sketch book. Check out the She Colors My Day website to create your own slideshow and to download the special She Colors My Day single written by Cristina Carlino and Stuart Mathis and performed by Amy Grant.
Check back with us next week as we’ll be giving away one of these very special Philosophy Shower for the Cure Shower Gels!
I’m back! Did anyone miss me? I really did intend on updating Product Girl while I was gone but unfortunately our wifi access in our apartment was very limited. I swear that I do have good intentions when I say things here, it’s just that sometimes the problem is following through on them.
I had a fantastic time in Paris and the ladies who accompanied me are amazing. I shared an apartment with Julia from All About the Pretty, Cailin from The Beauty Bunny and Nadine from Jolie Nadine. Then Erika from Makeup Bag, Christine from 15 Minute Beauty Fanatic, Tammy from A Mom in Red High Heels and Kristen from Total Beauty stayed in the other apartment. It was a privileg to spend time with them and I can’t wait until I can see them again… I think a trip to New York’s Fashion Week in February may be in order now.
Aside from an obsession with beauty products, I love old architecture and statues, and of course Paris has all this in spades. I was in love with all of the buildings and statues that I saw. At times, I had a hard time believing I was actually there and was in awe that I was standing somewhere with a history much longer than the city I live in.
I had some great experiences in Paris. I experienced my first facial (at a Clarins Spa no less), attended a beauty industry professional event representing Product Girl, had the best meal of my life at Chez L’Ami Jean and saw the Eiffel Tower with my own eyes. For the rest of the week I will be sharing some more of my experiences in Paris as well as some of my beauty buys.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and in an effort to raise awareness to the cause, some Total Beauty bloggers have come together and started the Total Beauty Total Cure campaign. Visit our MySpace and Facebook profiles and while you’re there, study up on the facts.
One of those facts can help you enter to win a prize in one of our many giveaways. You can find a calendar of those giveaways here. We have some amazing giveaways planned for every day of the work week, from a Clarisonic brush (check back here for that giveaway on the 8th) and many other prizes from lines like NARS, Benefit, Cargo and much much more.
In addition to featuring “pink” products during the month of October, products that will be donating a portion of their proceeds to charity, we will also be raising money to personally donate to the Breast Cancer Research Fund on behalf of Product Girl readers.
