Lancome's New Piha Red Noir Set

In November, Lancome is coming out with a set that will help all of us be a little bit trendier, well only some of us. If you’ve seen the dark, almost gothic lip trend floating around but thought it was something you couldn’t pull off, now there’s hope.

Lancome is introducing a low pigment black gloss that can be worn alone or blended with other shades. Lancome’s Color Fever Gloss in Piha Black is part of a set created by Lancome’s new artistic director Aaron de Mey that also contains a Color Fever Lipstick in Piha Red. This set is inspired by the red on a Christian Louboutin sole and Piha is the name of the beach near Aaron’s childhood home in New Zealand. This set will retail for $48 if you’re one of the lucky ones to be able to pick this up.

So what’s the catch? Only 500 of the sets will be available in the United States, exclusively at the Bloomingdale’s 59th Street location, Lancome’s website and their five Lancome boutiques. The waiting list at Bloomingdale’s 59th Street has just opened up (call 212-705-2886 to add your name) but otherwise you will need to wait awhile. In the meantime, check out the results:

These lips are insanely hot and I am already lusting after this gloss but I am a little dissapointed in the way Lancome is choosing to release this set though. These extremely limited edition products don’t often make their way to Seattle and I’m not the online shopping kind so I doubt I’ll be able to get my hands on this set but that’s ok.

With that said, will you be adding your name to the wait list or will you be hunting for an alternative?

Even Saints Wear Lipstick

Earlier in the month I told you about how much I was loving Poppy King’s Lipstick Queen Sinner lipstick. Since then I’ve become obsessed with trying out the rest of her products and Lipstick Queen Saint lipstick is my most recent acquisition.

Lipstick Queen Saint is a sheer lipstick with 10% pigment in comparison to her Sinner lipsticks which are packed with 90% pigment. If the pigment in the Sinners is overwhelming, the Saints are right up your alley.

The color is soft but still noticeable and it builds as you glide the lipstick on your lips. I picked up Nude Saint, the same shade I picked up in a Sinner and was happy that this color really was a “your lips but better” shade on me. It went on smoothly, moisturized my lips and imparted a soft shine… plus I didn’t feel the need to add any gloss on top.

Not only that but I was pretty happy with how the lipstick wore on. I made it to mid-day with some color. With any sheer lipstick, that’s to be expected but most do not seem to go the distance like Lipstick Queen Saint does.

My only dilema at this point is which shades do I pick up next?

Essie for Fall 2008

Fall is my favorite time of year and I’m always glad to see color returning to something a little darker. By the time September rolls around, I’m ready for rich, fall colors to start emerging. Essie has now introduced their fall collection and it has some of those rich colors I’ve been craving.

Here’s what this collection includes:

  • Lacy Not Racy – a velvety vintage burgundy.
  • No Boundaries – a juicy passionate plum.
  • Forever Young – a fiery tango red.
  • Big Spender – a divinely lush red-violet.
  • Tomboy No More – a red currant truffle.
  • Swept off My Feet – a dusky rose seduction.

What are you picking up? If you can’t decide, you can pick up a 6-piece To Go pack with all 6 shades. I’m drawn to Lacy Not Racy and Tomboy No More. My next manicure is going to be with one of those shades for sure.

Check back with us on Friday when we’ll be kicking off a giveaway of Essie’s Fall collection!

The New "It" Mascara

It doesn’t vibrate but this mascara has made a big splash in the beauty world. I’m sure a lot of you have seen this mascara and wondered how it works. I wondered too. 🙂

It’s obvious that Givenchy’s Phenomen’Eyes Mascara has something no other mascara has, a very unique and interesting applicator. While this applicator is great to give parts of your lashes more attention than others, it can also be a bit messy at first. I usually skip my lower lashes so I don’t have raccoon eyes in the afternoon and with this mascara, I got it all over the lower outer corner of my lashes. It took some time to get use to the applicator and learn how to use it without affecting the lower lashes but once I got that down, the lashes that I did focus on though looked really, really good. The precision this mascara gives after you’ve gotten use to it is great.

The one aspect of Givenchy’s Phenomen’Eyes Mascara that gives me a little bit of pause is how easily it smudges. I’m one of those gals that rubs her eyes a lot without even realizing it. I’ve gotten much better about it when I wear mascara but it still happens every now and again. One afternoon, I caught myself after I had rubbed one of my eyes and I immediately pulled out my mirror to see what the damage was. I was really surprised when I found my lid had little lash marks all over it. Since when does it take hours for mascara to dry? This made it a tad unpractical for me to use regularly. Maybe the trick is to seal the lashes with something waterproof afterwards.

While my feelings are a bit mixed on this mascara but so far I can really appreciate the results I can achieve with it. I’ll definitely be spending more time with it in the future… once I stop rubbing my eyes so much. 🙂

Cult of Cherries

Last week we played catch up and told you all about MAC recent releases but we saved the best for last. Out of all of the collections I’ve read about this one recently, MAC’s Cult of Cherries collection has got to be the one I’m looking forward to the most. Why? Because I love cherries. It’s not really the taste but the look of a cherry that I love. Every time someone gives me a gift, I kid you not, it’s got a cherry on it.

MAC Cosmetics Cult of Cherries collection When I saw the images for this collection with the cherries on the top and the cherry earrings (I would die for those earrings by the way, anyone want to send me a pair?), I knew that I would love this collection.

MAC Cosmetics Cult of Cherries collection

What’s going on your wishlist? I already know I’ll be lusting after the Mattene lipsticks, I’m a sucker for a matte lipstick and these rich colors are insanely hot. I’m happy to see “O” featured in this collection, it’s one of my favorite lipsticks of all time and I’m glad to see it’s finally getting the attention it so rightly deserves.
