My L'Oreal Feria Hair Dying Party

L'Oreal Feria L’Oreal recently asked a few blogs if they would be interesting in hosting a hair dying party in honor of L’Oreal Feria’s new and improved formula and their bold new look.

I was lucky enough to receive the invitation and I accepted. I’m glad I did because my friends and I had a lot of fun and some of us have a new look to boot. We all had different objectives when it came to dying our hair but in the end I think the results were all great.

We had a great time! L’Oreal was kind enough to provide us with the dye, black hair towels, goodie bags filled with enough L’Oreal makeup to last us the next few years and refreshments for the evening. We played with our makeup, sipped some wine, had some pizza then spread out in my dining room and kitchen dying our hair while we chatted. It was a fun way to have a girls night.

I was happy to see that L’Oreal Feria wasn’t runny at all. I had laid out all my “dying towels” and was dressed in my “dying shirt” prepared to get dirty but really didn’t have anything drip down on to them at all. I was impressed with how the dye stayed in place as it was on and saved me some laundry duty in the end. As for shine and conditioning, the new Built-In Silk & Shimmer Conditioning Technology certainly did it’s job. The shine is definitely there and my hair has not felt this soft and silky since I got my highlights months ago.

An Easy DIY Lipstick Palette

Have too many lipsticks and want a better option to carry them around? Jenbabae from the Makeup Alley forums has an easy do-it-yourself lipstick palette you can do at home. All you need is your favorite lip balms or lipsticks, a palette with however many wells you would like (you can find some great empty palettes at Japonesque), 1 teaspoon stainless steel measuring spoon, floss and flame. With that, you can achieve this:

Cute right? I’m going to try this one of these days.

Its TheBalm!

I am a bit of a shadow snob. There is nothing worse than chalky shadow that streaks on rather than blending beautifully. I’ve found that even expensive brands tend to disappoint in this arena which makes me loyal to my favorite companies that provide finely-milled, long wearing shadows. Recently, I decided to take a leap of faith and test out the Balm Shady Lady Eyeshadow Palette.

the Balm Shady Lady Eyeshadow Palette With their kitschy vintage pin-up packaging, I never took the brand very seriously until I tried it myself. TheBalm really impressed me with their highly-pigmented, quality Shady Lady shadows. Since the shades are so rich and intense, they easily convert to powder liners; just use a wet brush to apply. Check out this Sephora exclusive the Balm Shady Lady Eyeshadow Palette. It includes 9 fabulous Shady Lady shadows in a leopard palette. Colors range from rock-star intense to pretty plain vanilla (in a good way) – at $38 this is such a great value!

Since I have blue eyes, I was weary to break the cardinal “no blue shadow” makeup rule but I decided to try Risque Renee, a glistening navy blue.  I figured it would work as an alternative color to black for a smoky look. I applied the rich, soft shadow to my lids and followed with the usual routine (you know, highlighter on the brow, black liner on inner and outer eyelids, heavy mascara). The result was a surprisingly wearable grey denim color. Quite possibly my quickest and easiest, sexiest smoky eye in history.

Another beautiful shade is called Racy Kacy, a shimmering copper, with the perfect balance of metallic (not too sparkly), gold (not too yellow) and pink. I like to wear this shadow in an “understated” way – simply apply to lids and add 1 coat of mascara. Anything more would be too fancy, almost too special, if there is such a thing.

Lancome's New Piha Red Noir Set

In November, Lancome is coming out with a set that will help all of us be a little bit trendier, well only some of us. If you’ve seen the dark, almost gothic lip trend floating around but thought it was something you couldn’t pull off, now there’s hope.

Lancome is introducing a low pigment black gloss that can be worn alone or blended with other shades. Lancome’s Color Fever Gloss in Piha Black is part of a set created by Lancome’s new artistic director Aaron de Mey that also contains a Color Fever Lipstick in Piha Red. This set is inspired by the red on a Christian Louboutin sole and Piha is the name of the beach near Aaron’s childhood home in New Zealand. This set will retail for $48 if you’re one of the lucky ones to be able to pick this up.

So what’s the catch? Only 500 of the sets will be available in the United States, exclusively at the Bloomingdale’s 59th Street location, Lancome’s website and their five Lancome boutiques. The waiting list at Bloomingdale’s 59th Street has just opened up (call 212-705-2886 to add your name) but otherwise you will need to wait awhile. In the meantime, check out the results:

These lips are insanely hot and I am already lusting after this gloss but I am a little dissapointed in the way Lancome is choosing to release this set though. These extremely limited edition products don’t often make their way to Seattle and I’m not the online shopping kind so I doubt I’ll be able to get my hands on this set but that’s ok.

With that said, will you be adding your name to the wait list or will you be hunting for an alternative?

Even Saints Wear Lipstick

Earlier in the month I told you about how much I was loving Poppy King’s Lipstick Queen Sinner lipstick. Since then I’ve become obsessed with trying out the rest of her products and Lipstick Queen Saint lipstick is my most recent acquisition.

Lipstick Queen Saint is a sheer lipstick with 10% pigment in comparison to her Sinner lipsticks which are packed with 90% pigment. If the pigment in the Sinners is overwhelming, the Saints are right up your alley.

The color is soft but still noticeable and it builds as you glide the lipstick on your lips. I picked up Nude Saint, the same shade I picked up in a Sinner and was happy that this color really was a “your lips but better” shade on me. It went on smoothly, moisturized my lips and imparted a soft shine… plus I didn’t feel the need to add any gloss on top.

Not only that but I was pretty happy with how the lipstick wore on. I made it to mid-day with some color. With any sheer lipstick, that’s to be expected but most do not seem to go the distance like Lipstick Queen Saint does.

My only dilema at this point is which shades do I pick up next?
