What's in Lianne's Bag?

What's in Lianne's Bag Today is Lianne’s turn! We’re looking at her bag and what’s got in it. Lianne is the amazing woman behind The Makeup Girl. She’s a great makeup artist in the DC Metro area and she’s inspired quite a few purchases. When I saw Lianne use Sue Devitt’s Eye Intensifier in some of her photos, I ran out and got a few. Here’s what she says…

“The bag is by Gucci…it’s the Britt Medium tote in patent leather, totally roomy and very “me”. It’s one of the biggest “bag” purchases I have ever made in my life but it’s a classic and I love it. I typically don’t keep my keys in my purse (they go in a basket by the door so I always know where they are and my sunglasses (I have many many many pairs) are in the basket too…although I keep a pair in the car in case I forget them in the basket!!!”

What's in Lianne's Bag “In my bag itself I have my iPhone (geek girl!), my makeup bag (leopard from Bath and Body works on sale for $5!) my business card case, my black slim wallet, pacifica solid fragrance, philosophy pure grace roll on fragrance oil and my latest obsession, Orbit Mint Mojito gum (two packs because I can’t run out!).”

“The makeup bag is more streamlined than usual:”

Case of the Luxurious Lip Balm

A few weeks ago I was in Barney’s, a store that really feels out of character for me, but I gave in to temptation and picked up the infamous By Terry Baume de Rose. I just had to see what all the fuss about, I called this “research”. I didn’t go for the usual pot, I went with the gloss-like version of the lip balm.

By Terry Baume de Rose When you first use By Terry’s Baume de Rose, you start to see glimpses of why this lip balm is so coveted. It’s got the most enchanting rose scent to it, the kind of scent you imagine a gorgeous red rose to have. That alone may be worth the price tag to some. The texture is appropriately thick, thicker than your average lip balm, and it smothers your lips with moisture all while leaving a shine on your lips, this particular formula anyhow. I’ve really enjoyed using lip stains under this lip balm. The light pink color to it softens the color of the stains I use so I’m using them more now because of this. It also has an extra use, you can use it on your cuticles.

Those things aside, I still have a few issues with the product. First, it’s got a doe foot applicator. This type of applicator seems to give off some type of graininess during application. When I wipe it off, I wipe off some of the product and start the cycle all over again. I’ve started just dabbing the wand instead of spreading it around like a gloss. A brush would be much better in this product. The other is the price tag. Part of me is having a hard time getting over the guilt for even spending about $55 including tax for this lip balm. What is in it that makes it this valuable? The lip balm does treat my lips nicely but this is not my holy grail lip balm. It’s very nice but there are better lip balms out there at a fraction of the price.

Really what you’re paying for here is a luxury item. The rose scent is fabulous but the formula itself doesn’t really do anything extraordinary for your lips so it’s up to you to decide if this is worth it. As for me, when it run’s out, it’s out.

What's in Jen's Bag?

Today we’re looking at what’s in Jen from Raging Rouge’s bag. Check out her blog, she’s got some sneak peeks at what Urban Decay will be launching later this summer. Here’s what Jen says:

What's in Jen's Bag?

I purchased this bag for myself during my last pregnancy. In addition to my love for all things beauty, I am quite addicted to bags, shoes and jewelry! This bag certainly ranks as one of my best purchases ever… It was part of Gucci’s Cruise Collection that year (2005), but was then kept as a “Classic” for several more years until they finally discontinued selling it in 2007 (selling at almost 50% more than my original purchase price!).

The contents: Various change purses and credit card holders, Kate Spade sunglasses for me and Gymboree sunglasses for my little guy (he’s a cool cat), car keys, cell phone and headset, various hair ties, teething biscuits, Wet Ones anti-bacterial wipes, diapers and wipes (not pictured). Finally… on to the makeup!

Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral SPF 30: It’s a great way to reapply sunblock throughout the day without messing up your makeup. I consider it a must.
elf Therapeutic Conditioning Balm in Orange Creme
Lipstick Queen Saint Wine lipstick (this is so sexy without overpowering)
Stila Lip Glaze in Brown Sugar

Long Lasting Hair Color

There are few better feelings than walking out of a hair salon, freshly cut and colored, with a bounce in your step commensurate to that in your hair. It’s an instant pick-me-up, but it can also be quite an investment. Highlights, low lights, all over color; whatever you do to your hair is an investment of time and money. And like any other investment, you should protect your hair color. Matrix’s professional line called Logics Color DNA System can help.

Logics Color Leave-In Conditioning Protector The line is pretty comprehensive, ranging from shampoos and conditioners to a variety of styling aids. The Logics brand claims that its Dual Net Affinity (DNA) technology creates a barrier between your hair and the elements (sun, wash and wear) to retain salon-fresh color. I’ve been using the Leave-in Conditioner Protector and Shine Illuminating Serum after every wash since coloring my hair three weeks ago.

The Leave-in Conditioner Protector is to be sprayed all over wet hair and then combed through. I really like it for a few reasons. It makes my hair feel incredibly soft, but it also provides a really light hold. I have a pretty loose hair style so I don’t use hair spray or mousse very often. This leave-in conditioner adds a little bit of texture to my hair that has really boosted the overall style. The scent is fresh and slightly floral.

Logics Color Shine Illuminating Serum I blow dry and flat iron my hair almost daily and have been looking for a product to cut down on potential heat damage. The Shine Illuminating Serum is a serious multi-tasker – it protects my fragile hair against UV and heat damage, controls frizz and adds a dose of glossy shine to the end product. I apply one pump of the clear serum to my wet hair before drying. After styling, I rub one more pump between my hands and run them through my hair. The serum’s scent contains a little more musk than the conditioner, but the two scents work well together.

And how’s my color look? I get a reddish brown base color with reddish gold highlights – red being the most difficult color to retain, of course – and the color is still vibrant. It’s usually faded a bit at this point, but so far so good. If I can extend the life of my color by even a few weeks, it’ll be worth it.
