Italian Bath & Body

I’d like to confess my love affair with the company known as Perlier. After watching their products being shown on HSN for at least two years, I finally went and bought some Perlier at the local TJ Maxx. Considering how much cheaper it is in the store, I figured what do I have to lose, right?

Perlier Lavender Bath and Shower Gel Perlier is amazing. Everything that I’ve tried by this company has been 100% amazing quality. They have the most true lavender scent I’ve ever smelled. Their shower gels are about the same size as Philosophy gels and even come with a pump. This really comes in handy in the shower, when everything becomes slippery. After using their shower gels, I’ve noticed that I don’t need to use lotion afterwards. They’re definitely very moisturizing, and I have pretty dry skin!

Perlier White Almond Body Cream Next up is their body creams and lotions. *drools* These are beautiful. Not only do they moisturize very well, their scent stays! Hooray! I have such a hard time finding good smelling lotions and creams that actually keep their scent on my skin for more than .3 seconds. The lotions and creams you can still smell on yourself hours later.

Perlier Honey Hand Cream My favorite thing by Perlier that I’ve tried so far? Definitely their Honey Hand Cream. The smell is intoxicating and it makes your hands feel like silk! I’ve been known to even use it on the very dry spots on my face, and haven’t had any reactions towards it at all. The only problem? Keeping my mother from stealing it from me! Half the time, I go to use some and it’s not where I left it. I should probably buy her her own but I know that means buying even more Perlier products for me.

I’m in love, what can I say…

Feel Free to Intervene

I’m blogging with a little hesitation today. Not because of the product but because this is the first time I’ve ever posted a picture of myself here. I’m scared! My beauty blogging friends all did it so I figure I should as well, plus I’m wearing the Bobbi Brown palette I just talked about last week but I still feel self-conscious about it so be gentle with me. Here goes…

Elizabeth Arden's Intervene Makeup with SPF 15 Elizabeth Arden’s Intervene Makeup with SPF 15 is a liquid foundation with skincare benefits built right in. It contains antioxidant vitamins C and E to protect skin and claims to “visibly delay the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as it gives skin a firmer look”. Concealing fine lines and wrinkles isn’t really high up on my list of concerns right now but I gave it a try anyhow.

What I found when I used this is that it gave my skin some good coverage without being too heavy. I was also able to build on the coverage in the areas that I needed the most… and I’m not telling where they are. Intervene also gave me lasting coverage. At the end of the day, my skin still looked even and covered. I did feel that it accentuated my dry areas a bit though and my skin felt a little dry initially but that improved as the day wore on. Here’s a before and after (click image to enlarge):

I tried this in Soft Shell, the fairest shade of the bunch, but even then, this was a tiny bit dark on me. I still really liked this foundation though. I’m looking forward to wearing this foundation in the summer, maybe then my skin tone will be a bit warmer. And in case you’re wondering as to what I have on in my picture, I have Calvin Klein CK Beauty Velvet Blush in Skin, Clinique Lash Power mascara and the Bobbi Brown Nude Eye and Lip Palette (sort of a mixture of shades).

Dior Pure Poison

Alas, so many blue nail polishes, so little manicure time. As of late there have been OPI Russian Navy, OPI Yoga-ta Get this Blue, Chanel Blue Satin and now the latest – Dior Vernis Long Wearing Nail Lacquer in Poison Blue.

Dior Vernis Long-Wearing Nail Lacquer This polish is inspired by the legendary Dior Midnight Poison Fragrance. I love the look of a dark blue nail – it’s all Goth and chic at the same time. This color is a bit darker than the others with no shimmer. (One coat = midnight blue, Two coats=almost black in certain lights). In comparison to Chanel’s Blue Satin, it’s more of a midnight blue-black shade whereas Blue Satin is a dark blue that contains shimmer. As far as how it holds up, I have read numerous reviews and the consensus is it that it holds up well. As much as I love Chanel and its covet-worthy colors, the polish is not the greatest quality and tends to chip after 2-3 days. Dior however, lasted a good 5 days, until my nail bed started to grow out.

I was very impressed with the quality of this nail polish, having never used Dior polish before and at $19/bottle, it’s the same price as Chanel. The beauty of the Dior polish is that its only available in Europe, but for a limited amount of time, you can scoop it up at sephora.com. As for which one to choose, OPI’s color(s) are hands down the best deal of the bunch and the Russian Navy fits the bill perfectly. It’s a good, solid, shimmery dark blue that has staying power and goes on with a brush your manicurist will love.

Soap Film isn't Always Bad

Every now and then you come across a product that is just cool in concept and design. For example DHC Q10 Facial Film Soap.

DHC Q10 Facial Film SoapThis ultra transportable travel chic invention of a face wash comes in micro thin mono-dose sheets. These are absolutely genius; you just peel back the outer packaging and melt the sheet in the palm of your hand by adding a little water, even with the outer packaging these are thinner than a playing card and about half the size. I was amazed at what a great lather you get and they leave my skin squeaky clean.

There are 40 sheets to a box, you can throw a few in your purse, travel or gym bag, glove box or back pocket with no bulk. These little cleanser sheets are definitely a great product to be toting when public bathrooms are out of soap. I also prefer these to hand sanitizer which I often find drying and with having a smaller child I feel these are a gentler option.

Not only are these an excellent multi use product but they are cheap enough to be used freely.

In Need of Serious Therapy

So earlier this week I purchased a beautiful Mac lippie in Dubonnet, a deep Bordeaux color, and as usual I ran right home to attempt a perfect application so that I could fondly admire my new acquisition. However to my dismay, my Dubonnet coated lips looked more like wine soaked brillo pads. I had obviously not realized how flaky and weather worn my pucker had become.

Yu-Be Lip Therapy This now lead me on a quest for some serious lip repair. On this mission I came across Yu-be Lip Therapy. Can we say Hallelujah? Not only was this very healing but unlike many lip treatments it left my lips very smooth even when the product was not on. It actually helped heal them not just coated them with waxes to make them appear soft. Now I must tell you fellow lip lovers it didn’t smell like yummy cupcakes or taste like European imported Chocolate but it did indeed do the job and if you can get past the initial camphor scent that only lasted a few moments upon application I think you will be happily surprised by the results for around $5 that’s definitely a treat!

P.S. I have been rockin’ a beautiful and smooth Dubonnet painted pout ever since!

LA Fashion Week – Part 1

LA Fashion week is a big to-do here in the City of Angels. So I was very excited to get backstage access to a couple of the fashion shows that were being sponsored by MAC Cosmetics. What fun! For someone like me who religiously reads every magazine cover to cover, buys every new product that comes out on the market and just loves beauty and fashion in general, this was a real treat. The first show was by a local designer, Kelly Nishimoto, and while I was there I was able to snag some talk time with head make-up artist, Gregory Arlt. Here are some tidbits:

How did you start in the makeup industry?
I have been in the industry for 20 years now professionally and 15 of those have been with MAC Cosmetics.

Did you have any formal makeup training?
None at all! I grew up with 2 sisters who taught me about makeup and color and a dad who was an artist where I learned about shading and mixing color combinations. I was always being requested to do my sisters’ and friends makeup.

What made you want to work for MAC?
I have always loved MAC. I was a freelancer before I came on board and used MAC Cosmetics religiously on my own. I love(d) their makeup. I now love the stability of working for a global company and it’s been an amazing ride ever since.

When you are booked for a job, do you meet with the photographer and/or designers to find out what kind of look they want? Or do you have full creative freedom?
One of my favorite things to do are fashion shows. I always meet with the designer and head stylist before to discuss what type of look we want to achieve. It’s a very collaborative process – sketch pad and all to come up with ideas that are chock full of trial and error. We always love to try and tell a story with our looks.

What was the inspiration behind the look you are showing today?
It’s a very equestrian look – think horseback riding, early , romantic 20’s with a flushed cheek, as if you have just come in from the cold. It is summed up with flawless, glowing skin.

What makeup product can’t you live without?
In general it’s Mascara. If you have it on with nothing else, it looks like you have something on your face that just stands out.

What MAC product can’t you live without?
Absolutely, the Fix +. It’s a face lift in a bottle. It makes your skin taught and plump and I love to spray it on at the 8th hour of a long day for a quick skin refresher. I also use it after I am done to set the makeup as well. There is a blend of green tea, chamomile and cucumber that is calming to the skin with a fresh, clean scent.

What appeals to you most about working for a company like MAC?
First and foremost it’s their philanthropy – their AIDS fund. They are always giving back. Also, MAC gives you tremendous support and lets you have the freedom to do what you want with the creative process. I couldn’t ask for anything more.

Any sneak peak of up-coming fall makeup trends?
For fall, think “Chocolate and Cherries.” For the eyes we are seeing browns in an array of frosted and shimmer shades. For the lips, think berry-based reds – cherry and pomegranate reds – nothing too bright, just very deep in color.

P.S. I hear they were testing out a brand, spanking new mascara, but no details were given as of yet. Stay tuned!

From the Floor to the Blog

Nordstroms From The Floor Blog As someone who worked with blogs for a living, I always enjoy seeing the companies I support start a new blog. Today I noticed one from a store I love, Nordstroms. They have a new blog called From the Floor features fashion and beauty. You can even subscribe to the blog by the category of your choosing, that’s what I ended up doing. Best of all for me, is that it’s a TypePad powered blog. That always warms my heart. Go add this to your newsreader now!

It's Infallible

I have seen the commercial with Beyonce for L’Oreal’s Infallible Lip Colour so many times that I was actually turned off to the product. For some reason, I came around to it and one day in Target, I picked this up in Henna. I was with my friend Lea and she laughed because the last thing I need is another pinkish-brown shade but I can’t help myself… it’s what I like.

L'Oreal's Infallible Lip Colour At first sight, I really wasn’t a fan of this packaging. I’m still not completely sold but I can see its appeal now. It comes in a mirrored case that’s helpful for application and on each side of the case, you have the lip color and conditioner that slides out for use. Ideally, it would be nice if this came out completely. The product’s wear surprised me. I’ve been so accustomed to long lasting lip products like this drying my lips and flaking right off but that didn’t happen here, it even lasted well over 8 hours with most of the color in tact. Also, I wore this comfortably for over 4 hours without needing to apply the conditioner. When I did, I was happy to find the same scent as in their Colour Juice Sticks, which I love and have several of. Now I want more of these, I think I’m going to take advantage of the Buy 1 Get 1 Free deal Ulta has going on right now.

I wish I would have tried this sooner, the compacts for this limited edition collection is so pretty… I wonder if there are even any left. And in case you’re wondering, the shade pictured here in Cerise 300, same color Beyonce wears in the commercial.
