Put on a Heavenly Face

I’ve been obsessed with brushes lately and the one I’m all about right now is the Bare Escentuals Heavenly Face Brush. When I walked up to the Bare Escentuals counter and asked for their recommendation on the best brush to use to give me full coverage, this is the one that they suggested.

Bare Escentuals Heavenly Face Brush What’s nice about this brush is that it can deliver the fuller, buildable coverage I’m looking for without irritating my skin. You can’t see it in the picture I posted recently but I’m hiding some major issues and irritating that area is something I’m trying very carefully to avoid. The brush is super soft so it’s perfect for my application. It doesn’t not scratch my skin as I swirl, tap and buff away. This was a problem I had with their brushes in the past and they left me with a rather bad impression. I also really like that it’s got a flat top and a longer handle. This way it’s easier for me to pick up an even amount of product and work it in evenly as well.

The SA also said they all use the Heavenly Face brush at their counter and that it’s their best selling brush. The people have spoken. 🙂

The Gentle Picker Upper

I am not one to use eye makeup remover. It is mostly due to laziness as I don’t want to add that extra step at night to my face washing routine. I find that the whatever face wash I am using at the moment is sufficient enough to get all the remnants of eye makeup off. That being said, I was more than happy to try the NARS Eye Makeup Remover.

Nars Eye Makeup Remover I am a huge fan of Nars Cosmetics and love their sophisticated design and clean packaging. This particular product is simply named Eye Makeup Remover. According to the website it is a” high-performance, extremely mild makeup remover that removes all types of makeup.” Well this stuff is truly a god send. I know there are a few tried and true eye makeup removers out there, but this one does the job that much better. It has no scent to speak of, leaves no oily residue and does not sting the eyes one little bit.

When I use eye makeup remover or any soap product for that matter on my face, I am not very careful about not getting it in my eyes and I have been stung quite a few times. This product, however, was extremely gentle and there was no sting to speak of. There was no extensive tugging at the precious corners of my eyes needed, just a few swipes on a cotton pad and it was pretty much gone. Also, the formula is “layered” so to speak so you have to shake up the bottle to mix the top and bottom liquids together for it to work which is always a fun perk. Yet another great addition to the fabulosity that is the Nars brand.

Play the Perfumer

My friend knows that I love Creative Scentualization’s Perfect Veil perfume so she gave me a few perfumes she’d thought I’d like. What she gave me was actually a few notes from their Perfumers Palette series of perfumes, Soft Musk and Clean Musk.

Creative Scentualization’s Perfumers Palette is a series of perfumes you can mix and match to create your own custom scent. When I was younger, I use to visit Garden Botanika and make a custom fragrance… it was the only custom blending we had in Seattle. This series of perfumes reminds me of how much fun that was and this is a great grown up version.

Creative Scentualization's Perfumers Palette

There are no rules with these perfumes, you can mix some of the top, middle and base notes or wear them on their own. It’s up to you. I’ve been wearing the Soft Musk base note on it’s own nonstop for the last month. One thing that really struck me about wearing it is how much is smells like a longer wearing version Philosophy’s Amazing Grace. Now I just need to pick up a few more notes to mix it with.

I was in touch with Marichelle Daywalt of Creative Scentualization on this series of perfumes and she’s suggested a few combinations:

“Secret Garden”: Blood Orange, Violet, Clean Musk
“The Young Sophisticate”: Bergamot, Honeysuckle, Chocolate
“Find Your Zen”: Grapefruit, Green Tea, Clean Musk
“Walk in the Woods”: Bergamot, Fig, Sandalwood
“My Boudoir”: Bergamot, Rose, Vanilla
“Mediterranean Holiday:” Grapefruit, Fig, Soft Musk
“Island Breeze”: Lychee, Gardenia, Soft Musk

I think I might need Green Tea and Rose now. What notes would you mix together?

Strobe Light

The other recent release from MAC is their Strobe collection. That came out this past Thursday. I’ve been looking forward to this one. As a lover of all things highlighting, the new version of Strobe Cream had me excited.

MAC Cosmetics Strobe Collection

This collection features the infamous Strobe Cream, the new Strobe Liquid (a lighter version of Strobe Cream) and five new Tinted Lip Conditioners with SPF 15. This whole collection is about playing with light on skin.

I use to be active in the MAC LiveJournal community and one member there was a MAC makeup artist that did the most amazing makeup. She was a big fan of Strobe Cream and ever since she mentioned it, I’ve been interested it. My problem is that the cream version was too thick for me. Finally, Strobe Liquid solves that problem. I picked this up on Friday and I’ve worn it every day since. It’s not heavily pigmented or too thick. It is light weight and gives you this lit from within look… this is love.

The lip conditioners are nice as well. When the Tendertones came out, I was a bit bummed because they were in a pot, I like seeing their lip products in a stick instead. They are very sheer so don’t be intimidated by the shade you see in person. Try it first and then decide. I was sent a few by MAC but I also picked up Strobe Beam just for fun.

Shades include:
Strobe Kiss: sheer coral with a golden strobe pearl.
Strobe Rays: light caramel with golden red strobe pearl.
Strobeblossom: light blue/pink with red strobe pearl.
Strobe Beam: clear with strobe pearl.
Strobe Current: sheer plum with golden red strobe pearl.

Unfortunately, these lip conditioners are limited edition so you have to act now. Which ones would you pick up?

MAC Cosmetics Beauty Powder Blushes

MAC Cosmetics have given us something new to play with in the last few weeks. They recently introduced their Beauty Powder Blush collection that features 8 new limited edition blushes.

MAC Cosmetics Beauty Powder

These blushes are gorgeous on the skin and they are highly pigmented so you don’t want to be heavy handed with them. Annie at Blogdorf Goodman recently mentioned using her 187 brush to apply this blush and that’s a great tip! That’s not to say that you can’t play it up and really amp up the color. I love that they have a soft shimmer to them that gives skin a nice glow. It’s all about the glow. 🙂

Shades include:
Shy Beauty: pastel apricot with gold pearl.
Feeling: dirty plum with silver pearl.
Sweetness: intense blue pink.
Joyous: peach with gold pearl.
True Romantic: mid-tone pink with silver pearl.
Serenely: deep brownish red with gold pearl.
Eversun: neutral peach bronze with gold.
Secret Blush: dirty neutral plum with gold pearl.

p.s. You can find the Heatherette collection available online now!

Slow and Steady Wins the Race

I really wanted to love this one. Really. I have been so excited to try Sally Hansen’s Color Quick Fast Dry Nail Color Pen. I am always intrigued by new formulations of my favorite products. I haven’t felt this much anticipation since the release of Avon’s Instant Manicure Dry Nail Enamel Strips.

Sally Hansen's Color Quick Fast Dry Nail Color Pen After shaking the pen and pumping the color into the tip, I applied Sheer Beige polish to my nails The color was beautiful and the consistency was nice, being a cross between sheer and opaque. Unfortunately, I had trouble with the design of the brush applicator. It is pretty short and dense which created a streaky, uneven application. I often hit the edge of the pen against my freshly painted nail, ruining the manicure. Upon my first stroke, hairs from the brush started falling out onto my nails, and I quickly had to fish them out before they dried.

Overall, this product did not produce the revolution in nail polish that I had expected. Instead it will be thrown at the back of my drawer at work, to be used for a last minute manicure but never as a replacement for the real thing.
