Meet MAC Cosmetics newest launches, Matte2 and Plush Lash. Both collections were released today and are available at counters and stores everywhere.
Matte2 is a collection of highly pigmented eyeshadows and the best part about them is that they are now a permanent part of MAC’s eyeshadow range. This new eyeshadow’s formula is new for MAC, they are jet-milled with a high percentage of pigment. Sometimes you really need to layer on matte shadows to get a good color payoff but with these that is not necessary. That’s not to say that you can’t really pack on the color until your hearts content. To the contrary, you absolutely can. The texture of these eyeshadows are extremely soft, like silk to the touch. I also really like that the collection combines bold color with more everyday neutral colors. My favorites include Blanc Type, Poison Pen, Copperplate and Flourishing.
How about some eyeliner for those matte eyeshadows? The shades Inky, Inkspill, Electrolady, Point Black and Coco Bar are being repromoted as well.
Also at MAC Cosmetics counters and stores today is Plush Lash mascara. This new mascara comes in two shades; Plushblack and Brownette. The wand is a little different from the wands we’re seeing in mascara these days, it’s got a v-shaped wand. The flat side of the wand pushes the lashes up and the fuller side separates, combs them through and adds volume. I had zero clumping when I applied this and I loved the way my lashes looked. Also, if black mascara is a little too dark for you, give Brownette a try. I’m using the mascara in this shade and the color is not too light, it’s like your natural lashes only better.
I have to confess, I don’t take care of my skin as well as I should. I’ll use a facial moisturizer religiously but when it comes to the rest of my body, I often forget. I’ll go in spurts where I put some on once a day and then spurts with none at all. Guess which spurt I’m in now?
When it comes to body lotions, I’ve said before different textures and consistencies have their place. When it comes to thin, easily distributed body lotions, Kiehl’s Deluxe Hand and Body Lotion with Aloe Vera and Oatmeal is a great pick. It’s thin and sometimes almost runny consistency makes it a great lightweight moisturizer. Lately, I’ve been using this as a hand lotion as well. To me, it’s even better for this purpose because it sinks into my skin very quickly. I can put this on and seconds later get back to work without greasy hands. At $19.50 for a big 8.4oz bottle, this will last a long time as well.
Also, Kielh’s has some limited edition scents that are worth a try. There’s Pear Tree Corner, a sweet pear scent, Amber, Cherry Almond, Forest Rain and Wisteria. I’m drawn to Pear Tree Corner, time to head down to my local Kiehl’s store for give this a try. Don’t forget, Kiehl’s also has a really great and generous sampling program so you can try most of their products before you buy them.
While this isn’t really beauty product, it’s a product I’ve been enjoying for some time now. A few drops of this and your home will smell amazing.
Bath and Body Works introduced their oil warmers and oils some time ago and ever since, have been expanding their oil offerings to include all of their best selling and newer scents. Their oil warmers and oils are a great, inexpensive way to liven up your home’s ambiance. This set here is a good way to get your feet wet with oil warmers as it includes the warmer and an oil, Warm Vanilla Sugar. I’ve been simmering a mixture of this and Moonlit Path. The floral hints of lavender, roses, violets and musk are fantastic with a bit of vanilla thrown in.
Did you see the lovely Erika of Makeup Bag wearing this lipstick? That picture made me lust after this lipstick immediately and this time, I will not pass it up.
Starting October 1st, Lancome’s newest Pout-a-Porter lipstick will be available at Nordstrom stores. Finally, a store I can go to and pick this up at. I missed out on Benhaz Red and Proenza Pink but this time I will be in line at my local Nordstrom’s on Monday picking this up. This gorgeous red was created by the amazing Miss Gucci Westman and Peter Som for his Fall 2007 Fashion Show. P.S Kiss is the perfect combination of a bright red and a dark burgundy lipstick, so it’s a very universal red. Lancome’s Pout-a-Porter collaborations have created quite a stir among beauty junkies, I’m sure the next release will as well… can’t wait to see what Ms. Westman will do next.
You can pick this up for $24.00 now or on eBay after it’s sold out for much more so get on the list!
Do you love shimmer? Then you’ve got to try these palettes from Bobbi Brown. I foolishly overlooked them for some time but once I had the chance to try them, I’ve been having fun ever since.
The Bobbi Brown’s Metallics collection features four palettes with three color co-ordinated and high shimmer eyeshadows. It comes in Velvet Plum (gorgeous shades!), Forest, Burnt Sugar and Midnight.
I was really surprised with how much shimmer there really is in these eyeshadows, it makes it a really fun assortment of colors to use. The eyeshadows themselves are very soft and blend extremely well. Even blending novices will be able to work with this. I’ve been using the Burnt Sugar palette lately and it’s fabulous for turning your daytime look into an evening one. Burnt Sugar is a great crease color and Gold Dust is just that, a great golden shimmery shade. I’ve even started using this as a highlighter when my usual one isn’t around. The catch is that these are limited edition so you’ll need to act quickly.
What could be better at the end of a long week to take a nice, warm bubble bath with a glass of wine and just relax? That’s what I did the other night, I picked up trial sizes of the new Soap and Glory line at Target and prepared to soak.
What’s interesting about this product is that it says it has body lotion built right in, moisturizing your skin while you soak. While the bathwater didn’t seem particularly soothing or moisturizing, I did notice that my skin was a bit softer afterwards. While it could do with a hint more moisture, if you were in a hurry, it would do. It’s a personal preference I guess. Also, I was really surprised by the amount of bubbles I had in the bath. I love lots of bubbles in the bath and this one delivered on that front. As for a scent, it was intriguing. It’s a combination of bergamot, strawberries, manadarin, musk, amber and warm vanilla.
For those of us in the US, look for the line at Target. In the UK, you can find it at Harvey Nichols and Boots. If you see the trial sizes, pick them up! It’s a good way to get acquainted with Soap and Glory.
Ever since I was so kindly given the chance to try Chanel’s products, I have developed a soft spot for the line’s new offerings. This product is no exception, I am already lusting after it… hardcore.
The Collection Essentielle de Chanel are two new makeup palettes that include the line’s best selling and exclusive shades. Each one contains four eyeshadows, two lipsticks, two lipglosses and one blush. It comes in two color families: Naturelle Soleil which is a collection of pink and neutral tones and Lumiere Soleil which includes shimmering bronze tones. You can see both palettes here up close and personal.
The palettes are $85 and while it is a hefty sum of money, I have loved the quality of the eyeshadows, blush and lip color from Chanel so I will definitely be picking up Soleil Naturel… I’m going for the neutrals so I have a reason to use it as much as possible.
We’ll have more from Chanel during the rest of the week!

I love my hair- after someone else washes, dries and styles it. My hair is naturally very wavy – although not wavy enough to be called truly curly – and is very thick. Whether I go natural, using curling products and a diffuser, or if I go all out , tugging and begging each strand to lay flat and smooth, my hair always has a slight frizz to it. Over the years, I’ve concocted a cocktail of smoothing products that get the job done. Sort of. Still with the frizz, though.
I was so excited to try Matrix’s Smoothing Gel because it could be used whether my hair was going for curly or straight. I’m all about multi-tasking products. I envisioned bouncy, shiny curls or silky, smooth strands on demand. And you know what? That’s exactly what I got.
Matrix credits the micro-emulsion technology, featuring silicones and micro-oils, for my newfound freedom from frizz. The formula also features humectants to cut out humidity. . And you can apply the clear, unsticky gel on wet or dry hair. Perfect for when a strand needs a little touch-up post styling. Me? I’m just happy to have fuzz-free hair. I’m also really happy about the signature Matrix scent of the smoothing gel. There’s just something about that Matrix Biologie smell that is uplifting and refreshing. So for any of you girls out there with a little bit of frizz- meet your new best friend.
Cynthia Rowley and Avon have teamed up to introduce a new line of makeup for the fall season. I loved her collaboration with Target when she introduced a house wares collection called “Swell” and I love this new paring as well. The collection is perfect for this season, featuring shades of purples, plums and grays. The products include eyeshadow quads, lipsticks, glosses, face powder, nail polish and even a brush set with case. Cynthia puts her signature quirky touch into the packaging, which is black, adorned with colorful floral sketches. Avon is working to collaborate with other designers, possibly to revamp the name and bring in a hipper, more fashion-conscious crowd. Check out the line at Avon’s site.
