I’m not talking about the kind of mushrooms that take you on a trip. I’m referring to mushrooms as one of the it ingredients of the moment. Aveeno is a great brand, I have used their Positively Radiant moisturizer for quite awhile with great results so I am always interesting in learning more about their new products.
Being an exfoliating fiend, I was excited to hear about Aveeno’s Positively Ageless Daily Exfoliating Cleanser. This product features a shiitake complex and it helps stimulate cell turnover, which is always a good thing in my book. For someone like me with oily sin, it provided very gentle exfoliation. I deemed it safe enough to use everyday without fear of over doing it. It’s granules are ultra fine and at times I couldn’t even feel them. Someone with sensitive skin it may not want to use it everyday though. In the end, it didn’t leave my skin feeling dry. It was cool, calm and refreshed. I can’t help but love the scent the product leaves on skin, it’s just like what fresh, clean skin should smell like.
In today’s podcast, I talk share some beauty news, review Revlon’s Makeup Eraser Pen (as seen on Beauty Addict), share some ideas for Mother’s Day gifts and review some listener mail!

One of my favorite actresses just added a new item to her resume, Drew Barrymore is the newest star added to the Cover Girl Cosmetics line up. I’m a little surprised at this announcement, considering Drew has been feature in different Lancome collections but this is a great move on Cover Girl’s part. Here’s some information from the press release:
This afternoon Drew Barrymore was ceremoniously unveiled as the newest face of CoverGirl Cosmetics. The star and filmmaker will not only find herself in front of the camera launching new products for the company, but also behind the camera as a co-creative director of her first TV commercial for the Brand.
“I am honored to be associated with a brand that has been at the forefront of its industry for almost fifty years,” Barrymore said. “CoverGirl has managed to change with the times, yet stay in touch with women of all ages and backgrounds. To be chosen not only as the newest face of CoverGirl, but to be given the opportunity to be a co-creative director of my first TV commercial is truly amazing.”
A beloved actress and gifted filmmaker, Drew emulates the iconic image of the CoverGirl brand with her fresh, natural beauty, and energetic yet authentic spirit. Her carefree, upbeat personality shines through in all that she does. “Drew is a wonderful addition to the CoverGirl family and her role – both in front of the camera and behind the scenes as co-creative director – is new and different for the cosmetics industry,” said Esi Eggleston Bracey, Vice President and General Manager, CoverGirl Cosmetics in North America. “We wanted to honor Drew’s passions as a filmmaker and are thrilled she is not only lending her beautiful face to CoverGirl but also lending her artistic talents as the co-creative director of the ad campaign.”
Drew is joining other famous Cover Girls such as Queen Latifah, Christie Brinkley, Keri Russell, Molly Sims and Rihanna… maybe she’ll do a commercial with my favorite American’s Next Top Model’s CarriDee and Danielle.
I’ve been using mineral makeup for almost the last two years and one of my biggest frustrations with it has been the mess it makes and how inconvenient it is to take with me in my purse or while traveling. The powder usually goes all over and by the time I arrive at my destination I am dipping my brush into much more than the recommended amount for application.
Enter Jane Iredale’s PurePressed Pressed Minerals SPF 18. This product is awesome! It is a concealer, foundation, powder and sunscreen all in one! I like that it provides great coverage, has a wide range of colors, and is a snap to apply. I love that I can travel with this base – no more messy powder all over my makeup bag or hotel vanity. Plus it’s so natural – no oil, talc, FD&C dyes or parabens. So far the only drawbacks I can see are that it isn’t the simplest to get in my area (only sold at select high end salons, doctors offices and boutiques) – but you can buy it online – and it’s a bit pricey at $48 compared to my old mineral makeup that sells for $35. However – for the convenience and quality it’s worth it!
In keeping with the dewey, natural look I’ve been into lately, I thought I’d tell you about the other product that is a big part of the look. I have professed my love for lip stains plenty of times but I just can’t resist talking about a new lip stain that I have fallen in love with.
Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Stay-In-Place Lip Stain Duo is my new parter in crime. I have come to love this lip stain so much in such a short amount of time and it’s in large part due to the clear gloss that comes with the stain. Unlike stain duo’s I have tried, this gloss is moist without being too sticky. This stain features a gel based formula so you have a little time to work with the stain and perfect the application. I’ve been use to seeing fluid stains for long that this was a welcome change.
This product came in two shades, however only one is available now. The shade available now is Cherry, which as the name suggests a red, berry color based stain. Since I’ve been remiss in my duties here on Product Girl for a little while, I’m sad to say that one shade is no longer available for this product. Coral was the other shade available and this was a more of a peach color based stain. This is a limited edition product so act quickly, before Cherry is gone just like Coral.
With the weather warming up, I am strangely finding myself wanting to use blush and bronzing products more then ever before. I’ve been looking for something easy to use to I was happy to find that Estee Lauder’s Tender Blush Sheer Stick does exactly what I’m looking for. This product is a sheer creme blush in a pan stick format that’s as easy to apply as it looks. Just take the stick, apply it to the apply of your cheeks and blend… or apply anywhere else that you would like. This product is can be used on your entire face, even your eyes. I love that I can use this product without having to fuss with a brush, I can use one of my favorite applicators: my fingers. As the name suggests, the color is sheer so it’s hard to go overboard with this unless you really layer it on. I’m into the dewey, natural look lately and Copper and Pearl have been great allies in helping me keep with that look.
