I’m so excited to be a part of the Product Girl team! This is my first, of what I hope to be many posts here and I’m excited to be reviewing a favorite product of mine. Mary Kay’s new NouriShine Lip Gloss!
Now, it’s no secret that I am an independent Mary Kay Beauty Consultant, however, I’m not your typical gung-ho consultant in that I actually use and adore other products as well. I do have to say though that MK does have quite a few products that I do love, including this new lip gloss.
First off, this is a new formula that beats the old one hands down. While I have always loved their lip glosses, their old formula just didn’t “feel” quite right to me. It’s not that it was sticky, but the texture didn’t have quite the consistency that I want in a gloss. This new formula has it and then some! Fortified with Vitamins A and E, it protects your lips while making them feel and look good! My favorite shades are Melon Sorbet and Pink Diamonds.
The only down side, which I think Carla mentioned in an earlier post about a Mary Kay product, is that you can’t just go to a counter and get it, but you can search for a local beauty consultant right from the Mary Kay website. If you’re a lip gloss addict like I am, put this on your “Must Try” list.
I just spent the night with a new friend, Softening Socks from Bliss. I was in a bad mood last night and I decided to treat myself to these socks that I had been eying every time I set foot in Sephora.
These socks are different from your normal pair of moisturizing socks because they are gel lined and this actually traps the moisture in while you wear them. I slathered my feet with Philosophy’s Soul Owner and hung out for awhile. The directions say you can wear them for 20 minutes to use them as a treatment or you can wear them overnight so I slept in them. When I took them off earlier this morning, my feet actually looked a bit like prunes. That just goes to show how powerful these socks actually are, 20 minutes was really all I needed. It is a bit awkward to walk in these socks, I kept thinking I was going to slip and fall but what’s a little risk in exchange for soft, lovable feet? I didn’t buy the co-ordinating Softening Sock Salve, I figured I had spent enough on this product already but I am sure that any variety of moisturizer would work in combination with these socks.
If I were to nitpick and find a complaint about this product, it would be it’s price tag. This is why I waited so long before actually buying these socks. If I had enough patience to order something online and wait for it to arrive, I might have actually tried GeLuscious Booties instead. This product is half the price and I suspect it works the exact same way.
If the treats from Booty Parlor were not enough, I got a few more ideas for you.
DL & Co’s Rose Noir is a beautifully rich rose scented candle. It features Bulgarian rose, French rose, Moroccan rose and Rose concrete. This packaging for this candle is gorgeous as it comes in this box with silk stitching and black satin ribbon. I smelled this once when I was visiting Autumn at La Creme and I’ve been haunted ever since.
Aren’t these boyshorts from Honeydew Intimates adorable? These are their ‘Rumba’ Lace Ruffle boyshorts. They have other patterns as well including fruit, but these are more holiday appropriate. Nothing says Happy Valentine’s Day like lacey underwear.
Speaking of roses, there is a new rose based fragrance that has been on my mind for a little while. It’s A-Maze by People of the Labyrinths. It features notes of henna, sffron, Taif rose, orange blossom, Wardia rose, agarwood, sandalwood, musk and synthesized civet. Lucky Scent has a great description for this, they describe it as a “rose skin scent” and I couldn’t agree more. In my case, I prefer the eau de toilette over the the eau de parfum, I find it’s a bit softer than the parfum. This is hard to resist for rose lovers.
Product Body’s Valentine’s Day I’ve Got a Crush on You gift set includes a jar of Crush on You and Whipped Shea Butter. This set comes in an exclusive Vanilla Sugar scent. As Joanna says… love each other, love yourself and love your skin. I couldn’t think of a better product to do it with. The Whipped Shea Butter is amazing and I’m betting Crush on You is just as amazing.
Valentine’s Day is tomorrow and thanks to the lovely people at Booty Parlor, it’s time to hear about some holiday treats that are fun for you and that special someone.
The first product I tried was their Dust Up Kissable Body Shimmer in Don’t Call Me Honey. This body shimmer is perfect for my skin tone, it doesn’t add a lot of color and it’s packed with shimmer. As you might have guessed, this body shimmer tastes and smells sweet like honey. I actually licked myself to see what it tasted like and I liked what I tasted. This product also comes in Punch Drunk Pink, which tastes like cotton candy and Crusin’ for a Bronzin’, which taste like cinnamon french-toast. With whatever flavor you choose, you’re bound to have fun getting all dolled up.
When it comes to kissable flavors, I’m much more of a cinnamon girl than a mint girl. Luckily, Booty Parlor has you taken care of with whatever flavor you prefer. I’m So Sexy Lip Gloss comes in two flavors, Cinnamon Shine and Peppermint Pink. With whatever shade you choose, this gloss tastes great and has a slight tingle to it to make your lips extra pouty and kissable. The shades leave a great tint on your lips as well.
At the end of the night, a little dessert is in order. Give Booty Parlor’s Melt a try. Whether it’s over a bowl of ice cream or painted on that special someone’s body, this dark chocolate fondue is a lot of fun and easy to use… just a few seconds in the microwave and you’re ready to go. The best part is that this treat is low and fat and is only 5 calories a spoon! You can stay on your diet and have some fun at the same time.
Booty Parlor’s body treats don’t stop there, they have a whole selection of goodies. How about some massage oil or bubble bath? You can find reviews on these products at Beauty Addict and Vie Couture.
With everything I had going on, I neglected to talk about this collection but better late than never… right? One of the longest awaited collections is finally here, MAC’s Barbie Loves MAC collection.
I can’t wait to see this collection in person. It features a few colors that I am very excited about. For example, Moth Brown was a limited edition eye shadow that this collection is bringing back. It’s a charcoal brown with a bit of grey frost thrown in. I missed it last time but I will not make the same mistake twice. I’m also looking forward to playing around with Springtime Skipper, Playful and Magic Dust. Other than that, I’m expecting that I will be picking up Malibu Barbie Lip Glass, Pearl Sunshine Beauty Powder, Steamy Nail Polish and maybe a Glimmershimmer.
This collection includes new limited edition lipsticks, new limited edition lipglosses, creme lip liners, new limited edition eyeshadows, liquid eyeliners (including 1 limited edition shade), mascara, blushes, limited edition beauty powders, limited edition liquids shimmers, new limited nail polishes, a buffer brush and other Barbie collectibles. You can find the complete collection here. Some of the products are already sold out, I’m sure the adorable little Barbie icon on the products and just the word “Barbie” has nothing to do with it. This limited edition Barbie sold out right away and only cost $35.00. We should start taking bets on how high auctions on eBay will get for this Barbie. Right now this auction is at $355 and there’s still 4 hours to go.
You can find an in-depth review of this collection here. While you’re at it, check out the rest of Temptalia’s site. She has some great tips and tutorials.
I’m not a big drinker but I could go for a few of LORAC’s Mocktails at any time of the day.
What’s not to love about these lip glosses? They are so much fun, I spent a half hour just swatching all of these glosses on my hands when I first saw them. Each lip gloss is named after a drink and they smell and taste like them too, without the alcohol of course. My favorite thing about this lip gloss is that the applicator and how handy it is. I hate pumping wands in and out of a tube, just hoping to get enough product on the applicator. I wish more lip glosses used this type of built in applicator. The consistency is a bit thinner than most lip glosses, which I like, but it provides plenty of shine. When I first saw them, the guy at Sephora suggested Tequila Sunrise. I thought to myself “Is he crazy?” but after playing around with it, I actually picked this shade up. It’s gorgeous tangerine color that’s sheer and adds a great tint to your lips. I can’t wait until I can use it with My Sunshine. Now my mind keeps thinking about going back for more.
In September, I talked about how much I liked Urban Decay’s Deluxe Eyeshadow. In that entry, Laura Kenney, Sephora’s Beauty Editor, mentioned that Urban Decay would be coming out with 3 more neutral shades and 1 saturated purple in the spring. Now imagine how excited I was I saw that my Sephora actually had these eyeshadows displayed. I. Was. Very. Excited.
The new shades are just gorgeous. I was initially excited about getting my hands on some new everyday shades, not even thinking about the new shade of purple. Upon seeing the beautiful purple shade called Ransom, I changed my mind… it’s just a stunning color. You can see it here to the left, it’s the shade on top. The other shades are beautiful as well. I was expecting some neutral matte color but I should have known better, instead we were given 3 wonderfully rich and shimmery shades of bronze, soft brown and peach. You can see them on the left as well, in order: Shag, Underground and Scratch. I can’t wait until Urban Decay releases more of these eyeshadows.
One thing that really intrigues me in beauty products these days is how advanced they have become. Who would really ever think that our lipgloss could be good for us or that our foundation would change color based on our skin?
Smashbox’s O-Glow is one of those products that makes use of this advanced technology and turns it into something foolproof. This product is a gel blush that is waterproof and actually works with your skin’s chemistry to change colors. You start by dabbing on beads of color on your cheeks and almost instantly, the gel starts changing into this intense pink color. It was a little alarming at first, I thought this product would stain my cheeks and that would be the end of it. However, I was really happy to find that this gel blended extremely well into my skin… I was actually surprised by it. The color I thought was a bit alarming at first, blended down to a nice, pink, healthy glow. This product claims to turn cheeks to the exact color you blush in and I found this was pretty close. While I love how well this gel blended, I also loved how it left my skin feeling. It was as if I had this great, silky barrier on my cheeks. If you use Smashbox’s Photo Finish Foundation Primer, you know what I mean.
Last year Lancome created a fury with their beautiful Behnaz red lipstick, the first in their Pout-à-Porter series. It was produced in very limited qualities and it sold out before it was even released. Only a lucky few possess this lipstick, Annie at Blogdorft Goodman being one of those lucky gals. This time, Gucci Westman Neville, has created a new lipstick for us to lust after… Proenza Pink.
This lipstick was created in collaboration with with Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, the designers behind Proenza Schouler. It was also inspired by the collections new designs, visions of cool surfer girls, Stephen Sprouse and a touch of ‘80s icon Molly Ringwald came to Gucci’s mind.
While the waiting list for Proenza Pink opened on February 1st, you can call any of the Lancome boutiques or counters at Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus to get on a waiting list. Proenza Pink will be available in limited quantities this March.
What smells like yummy cinnamon buns and leaves your lips with a beautiful shine? Bare Escentual’s new Buxom Lips Lipgloss.
The idea behind this lipgloss is that it plumps your lips with a cooling tingle. I didn’t see much of a difference in the fullness of my lips since they seem to be pretty resistant to lip plumping products, so I’ll let that slide but I can definitely feel the tingling. There are other reasons to love this gloss though. For one, I love the colors it comes in, there’s something to like about each one of them. I have developed a strong attachment to Amber, a great peach shade. I’ve been wearing it quite a bit over my beloved lip stains.
It’s consistency is good as well, it’s not so thick that if feels like your lips are stuck together. One thing that surprised me about this product was it’s size. When it comes to lipgloss, I’m so use to seeing skinny little tubes like MAC’s Lipglass. It’s good to see more companies embracing the “bigger is better” notion. Also, I like how my lips feel when I wear this gloss… they feel soft and luscious. Maybe it’s the infusion of antioxidant vitamins A and E that keep lips protected.
