Product Girl was introduced in September 2005 by Carla Maganinho. She had a personal blog at the time but didn’t want to annoy her readers with her talk about all the beauty products she was buying so she started Product Girl to share her favorite beauty products with others… and little did she know that it would turn out to be the life changing experience that it has been.
Since then, Product Girl has been featured in the New York Times, Womens Wear Daily Beauty Biz, The Nest and On Makeup Magazine. Product Girl has also been named a Top 50 Beauty Blog by Konector. Most recently, Product Girl was named one of the best beauty blogs by the readers of About.com and Shape Magazine.
In October 2011, Carla handed off the blog to contributing editor Laurie, her sisters Vania and Kayla and her best friend Autumn, all of who love beauty just as much as Carla does. While Carla went off to pursue other opportunities, she left Product Girl in excellent hands!
Here’s a little bit about Laurie:
Hi, I’m Laurie! I’ve loved all things beauty since I was a young girl and vividly recall my “awakening” at a Chicago Marshall Field’s Clinique counter when I was a teenager. It was full-speed ahead from that moment on.
Among my must-have beauty products are highlighters, my Clarisonic and lip gloss. I paint my nails ritualistically every Sunday and I’m obsessed with enacting spa days at home – taking frequent bubble baths.
My love for all things girly also extends to shoes. I’m on the short side, so a beautiful high heel is a great thing in my book. I’m a Wisconsin native and love to talk about my home state. Things like cheese and the Wisconsin Badgers – go Bucky! I currently live in the windy city of Chicago with my husband and Boston Terrier Betty. When I’m not at Sephora or chatting it up at the beauty counters, I’m a senior account executive for a public relations firm where I specialize in corporate communications.
Here’s a little bit about Kayla:
Hi, I’m Kayla! I’m a young high school student in love with all things beauty, growing up in a city outside Seattle and trying to plan a future on the east coast in the big apple. I’ve been a make up junkie since I was a little girl playing with my moms lipstick and my passion really started when I watched my older sister start Product Girl and follow her dreams. You could practically call me Product Girl Jr!
My love for make up is also followed by a love of jewelry and accessories, also a trait with the girls in my family. Whenever I’m out shopping, I always make sure to hit all the beauty stores not once, but twice, just to make sure I don’t miss anything. Blushes and lipsticks are my favorites, some form of color always has to grace my lips and cheeks. Simple is how I like to keep my make up, but love when I get a chance to really show off my dramatic looks. Hopefully one day I can take this hobby of mine and turn it into something more, but I have to finish high school first!
